Prior to being hired, you are treated great!   Post hire, they could not care less about you.  I didn’t receive my very first paycheck and when I attempted to contact someone about it, the reply I received was, “I AM AT THE MOVIES WITH MY FAMILY!  Whatever it is you will have to wait until Monday”.  I sent a message back let this person know that I would like my PAYCHECK, and I would not wait until Monday for an explanation.  This was NOT a one time thing.
  Also, while middle way of a six month assignment my mom passed away unexpectedly.   I told them I was going home (a nine hour drive).  They acted like I told them I would be back at my assignment on WEDNESDAY (she died on Sunday),  
  It was also arranged housing with two other nurses that were already there.  An hour away from the place, the lease holder told me that her roommate didn’t want me there.  Needless to say, I didn’t go there.  I ended up losing a great amount of money in housing because of having to stay at an extended stay.  When I began working there I found out that the two I was arranged to board with was in a TWO bedroom apartment and one of them had a large pit mix in her room, the other one had a small dog as well.  
    It was enough that I don’t know if I will ever travel again.

A typcial day at work might start or end with an admission or discharge.  Care would be for one or two patients per nurse, depending on how critical the patient is.  

Learning could be something small about the patient from a family member speaking to me.  Or, it could be something larger, such as a diagnosis and treatment that I am not familiar with.  

The managers on the different units, ICU, Cardiac Cath lab, and IV/PICC team, I had great, stable relationships with.  There was always a good report.

I have always meshed well with my co-workers, and consider myself a team player.  I am cool under pressure, whether a patient is coding, or we are starting CRRT, or a patient emergently needs open heart surgery, and we have to insert an IABP.

The hardest part of the job is when I have to deal with riled family members, or a patient suddenly dying, seeing a patient improve but then they steadily decline until they are a DNR.

The most enjoyable part of the job for me are compliments from patients, staff, and family. A "thank you" and "great job" go along way with me.  And I absolutely love seeing a patient visit after his/her discharge, just to say hello.

I worked as a travel nurse at the Deerfield Men's Correctional Center in Capron, Virginia supplementing the Armor Correctional Health Services personnel. Working at a Virginia Department of Corrections prison was a stressful and miserable but valuable learning experience. Trying to provide health care service to inmates in a prison is a depressing patient care experience. The Armor Correctional Health Services nurses are nasty, criticize the travel nurses, and try to get the travel nurses fired because the travel nurses make much more money than they do so they resent the travel nurses. 

I just finished my first contract (with extension) with CMS and signed on for a second contract.  It’s a great agency to work for!  They really work for you and help you find the best contract for you.  They have great relationships with many of the facilities and managers in the area. 

 Benefits are decent, no PTO, but they offer good health/dental/vision, supplemental coverage, and 401K.  The salary compensation is very competitive with other agencies. 

I chose this agency over others because they felt more personable and like they really care about you!

I have been employed with CMS for the past 4 years and am proud to say I work for CMS.  This agency goes out of their way to provide the nursing jobs and hours specific for me.  Everyone in CMS from the CEO (who is an RN) to the schedulers, HR personnel, and the administrative personnel are engaging and always make me feel that they are there just to help me.  A nursing career with Chesapeake Medical Staffing is as fulfilling as you want it.  Working for CMS allows me to continue teaching in nursing school and maintain my clinical nursing practice.

CMS takes care of their RNs and employees involved in the RN hiring process for contract placement. They do not treat employees who are involved in hiring and placing per diem staff, especially non-skilled workers with as much respect. Basically once the company was bought out, you're worthless if you're not involved in the areas that make the most money. Furthermore, have history of treating employees with disabilities poorly.

As an agency nurse my job is ever changing. This has afforded me the opportunity to be flexible and adaptable.  CMS offers professional and compassionate management as well as support staff.  There aren't many things that are difficult about the job, however as with any agency, dealing with cancellations always proves challenging.  The most enjoyable part of my job is working in a new environment almost every shift, it keeps me interested and always learning.

First agency I ever worked for and if I went back to agency nursing, CMS is the agency I would first contact. Great staff that always updates you on open jobs/contracts. Everyone was very nice there. Well known agency in the Baltimore area so they have a lot of work from the different hospitals, etc. 

Nurse owned and operated, CMS always puts their nurses first and keeps the clinical perspective when making business decisions.  Their customer service is fantastic, and they have fun events throughout the year like the annual fall trip to an all-inclusive resort.  This company knows how to work hard and play hard, which is right up my alley.  A great group of people who are experts in what they do - I would recommend this agency above any other in the area.

Although I haven't worked any assignments lately with this agency, there are plenty of opportunities and various assignments to choose from. Salaries are competitive, according to the assignment. The only negative I experienced is lack of paid time off. After working a certain amount of hours, you should get some compensation.
