AMIG is a great place to get your foot in the door with insurance. As you advance through customer service, they give you the chance to become a licensed insurance agent and support you through those steps. The support seems to end there, though. Once you are licensed, unless you are part of the cult culture and drink the kool aid, don't expect to advance beyond that. Sometimes even if you do, it will be years later, watching less experienced associates advance right past you, regardless of their stats/performance. The benefits are absolutely amazing, though. PTO is great since the company is based on European standards. But also don't expect to get every day that you want off since you have to get it approved or take a hit on attendance points if "time is not available" (expect to see the same people getting time off approved for high value days). Health, dental, vision, 401k match at 5%, supplemental life insurance, all reasonably priced. The standards of expectation have only gotten worse and worse requiring more responsibility on the associate without adjustment in compensation. It has become a job that is harder to meet or exceed company required expectations. Not to mention the fact that previous benefits for the department/position have been removed. It feels like they are constant revolving door and are progressively getting worse at training their associates. I now work with one of their general agents and calling or chatting with an associate for help is like pulling teeth.

This used to be a great company to work for, but they are going through a metamorphosis from top to bottom. I can't speak for home office environment, but the employees in the field/remote are feeling the drastic changes in corporate mantra. 

There is something patently wrong with companies that emphasize volume, at the expense of quality...especially in an industry where personal customer service is so crucial. This can usually be felt by the employees as it is with clients, though not necessarily buy everyone, contingent in their respective role in the company. 

They are quite below the curve in compensation packages, and this was exacerbated by a recent deduction in employee benefits. This business model panders to shareholders, rather than the employees who, by most measures,  are the catalysts for a positive (or negative) experience with the clients, the insureds. The current trajectory of the corporation is driven by one factor alone, which is profitably. Depending on your vantage point, this can be enticing, or disconcerting. If you're the former, this means you're an executive, and conversely, the latter encompasses everyone else. But even if you're an executive, don't be lured by the possibilities, because the laws of physics still apply...ergo, for every action, there's an equal and opposite reaction. This is evidenced by the discord with employees outside of the home office, at least.

I typical day at the office was opening the day with greeting my staff, identifying who will be out that day and what action is needed to meet the service levels for the day. Late morning I conducted a stand-up meeting with all Supervisors to talk about the previous day's challenges and the plan for the current day. This meeting also included workforce management. Throughout the day was meetings to identify issues, new ideas, etc. and create action plans. Our management team worked very closely together to ensure the success of our department resulting in the success of our customer service to the clients. The hardest part of the job would be keeping our staffing where we needed it to be. Turnover was very low with losing associates to performance/attendance issues. It was high in losing people to promotions in other departments. Our company had seasonal spikes due to the products we insured so staying ahead of the curve was challenging at times. What I liked most about the job was multiple things. The environment was very friendly, well staffed and offered career opportunities. They also offered a great package including salary, bonus, 401k match, insurance coverage's and tuition reimbursement. Overall I enjoyed working there.

At American Modern Insurance Group (AMIG for short), you are welcomed with open arms and is a great place for someone to get introduced to Insurance.  I learned a lot about insurance during my time there and believe that that knowledge will help me as long as I am involved with insurance myself.  Mondays and Fridays were always the busiest days of the week and on a typical day of work for me at least consisted of taking calls regularly all day and assisted customers with filing their insurance claims.  I would say management there is very helpful and knowledgeable.  The workplace culture is very professional and we strive to help everyone as much as possible.  I would say one of the hardest parts about the job is handling the customers whenever they call in and have had a traumatic experience in their lives ( ie, tree falls on their home, they were affected by natural disasters, or were involved in an accident).  I would also say that one of the most enjoyable parts about the job though is actually being able to help those customers that are in need because we were able to try and get their lives back under control when all hope feels lost for them.

If you look around the Customer Service department you won't find much diversity as it pertains to the leadership team. They preach growth and development but don't entertain the idea of hiring external leaders. In my time with the company I have seen three individuals, all men, that were hired outside the company. One was brought in from another department, the other two from different organizations. To measure the success of those three look no farther than the manager they reported too. All three are gone with one moving back to their prior department. This particular manager is the common denominator with all of the problems that define that department. Harassing based on height/weight are key characteristics of this manager. Nepotism appears to be another key defining trait as one member of the leadership team and two other associates are directly related to this individual. It amazes me that this individual has as much influence in that department, but that is the culture and environment that has been created. My recommendation is bring in external leaders and start weeding out the bad seeds. This would start with this particular manager.

American Modern is really a hidden gem – the campus is beautiful, located just outside of Cincinnati with many perks. Employees get free premise parking (a big perk compared to working in Downtown Cincinnati), have access to free amenities like a full gym and workout classes at lunch, a subsidized cafeteria, Starbucks and beautiful walking trails to take advantage of during nicer days. Depending on your department, there is a lot of flexibility with your schedule allowing for work-life balance which is very important to me. The culture and the people you work with are pretty great. I have been with the company for a while now and some of the main reasons that have kept me here so long are great team dynamics, flexibility and the evolving nature of the work that I do, challenging me to learn and expand my skills at all times. This has helped my career tremendously and I have gotten the support needed from my management. As with any organization, there are challenges that come along but I think the company and mainly its employees give it their best at overcoming hurdles.

◦ Orders and screens miscellaneous reports needed in the rating and underwriting processes, such as Motor Vehicle reports, loss history reports, credit checks, outside inspections, loss control, etc.
• Develops and maintains effective business relationships with internal and external customers / coworkers in order to attract and retain profitable business.
• Visits agents, brokers and producers in order to retain existing accounts, build and maintain business relationships and develop new opportunities in support of divisional objectives.
• Interprets, explains and markets products and services.
• Applies underwriting rules and guidelines, rating manual rules and insurance laws and regulations.
• May provide guidance and assistance to lower level associates.

In my experience, I've seen that associates, management and senior/executive leadership genuinely care about one another. There's a sense of family. 

While there may be challenges, I've seen the company acknowledge those challenges, establish a plan to address those challenges, and explain their decisions. I've never worked at a company with so much candid, consistent, and transparent leadership. 

I also feel supported in bringing issues forward, knowing that I'll be listened to and treated with respect. 

There's also room to grow and create a career at American Modern; with the changes in technology and the way work gets done, there are so many opportunities to learn and develop, which is as much on the organization to provide those opportunities, as it is employees to identify their career path and work towards it. 

Pros:
- Welcoming culture, where all co-workers are always willing to help you (and the company) succeed
- Diverse and Inclusive, with plenty of opportunities for everyone to get engaged, and contribute towards your goal - both personal and professional
- Motivating environment, where all ideas have a forum and where each individual is valued for what they bring (or can bring) to the table
- Beautiful campus/facilities, consisting of walking trails, a full-fledged gym (with a trainer and various fitness classes!), nurse practitioner and massage-therapist onsite, subsidized food at the cafe, Starbucks!, soccer and baseball fields, not to mention a huge parking lot. There's something for everyone
- Competitive benefits, including access to top tier medical/dental/vision plans, awards and rewards to help recognize your contributions, generous vacation days (also, volunteer days!), ride-share programs and tuition reimbursement plans


Cons:
- Company's location, which is slightly away from the Cincinnati downtown area. It limits usage of public transport options

When they say fast paced environment, they mean toxic environment. They just focus on numbers and how many calls you take over the quality of work. You NEVER have down time, they expect you to take call after call without a second to breathe between. On top of this there is mandatory over-time, so expect 43 hour workweeks. I get mandatory overtime isn't the worst thing in the world but trust me any amount of time over your regular shift is going to feel excruciating. As far as concrete schedules go, forget about it. You get no say in if you work morning or night and they can really change it on you without any warning. I begged to work mornings because I take classes at night and they basically told me this is what I signed up for. All in all, no I would not recommend this job. You get yelled at by customers and they degrade you all day long. The company could be worse but the job itself honestly sucks.
