I had wanted to work in a pharmacy for actually three years before this opportunity was presented to me by Amerisure.  The job was to be Medicare certified to present Medicare Plan D by a group designated as AHIPs, American Health Insurance Plans. The company of Walgreens Drug chain was an owner of SmartD Rx, a Medicare Plan D insurance plan and was interested in being able to offer the Plan D insurance to their customers.  Medicare Open Enrollment is during November and December when people are shopping in the stores for the holidays. After interviewing, a manager of a very large Walgreens store allowed me to have a display where it was as per Medicare Plan D guidelines. The Amerisure company has merged into another company in another state and is not named Amerisure at this time. Also, the Smart D Rx, owned by Walgreens was sold to Express Scripts. A typical day at  Walgreens Drug store was to check in with the store manager and set up my display. Then I waited for customers who we interested to ask questions.  The store manager was supervising the store to make it look attractive for the holidays. The other managers and employees were excited about the busy season and having my display as their Walgreens Drug store Medicare insurance Plan, Smart D Rx. It was apparent that it was important that products or ways for their customers that might help the customers get exactly what they wanted and possibly save their customers money. The management and the employee were fantastic and I was surprised how quickly the time went by.  Then the open enrollment was over. The hardest part of the job as being a licensed insurance agent for the state in a Walgreens Drug Store presenting their own Medicare Smart D Rx for Medicare Plan D Insurance was making certain that I explained the details of the plan so that they would learn how that the Smart D Rx Plan D Medicare insurance plan owned by Walgreens, could possibly benefit them by offering the same prescriptions that their physician had prescribed and having Medicare Plan D have an insurance plan that could save them money using Walgreens pharmacy. The most enjoyable part of the job was that  Amerisure was excited to have me be available to have work at Walgreens Drug Store. And then the managers and employees were thrilled that Medicare Smart D Rx Plan D was being encouraged by the support of upper management who also visited the store during this time. Amerisure and Walgreens Drug Store both were pleased to have their licensed insurance agents be in their store during Medicare Open Enrollment to answer any questions that the customers might have. I was very thankful for this opportunity.

In working with Amerisure, it was a great facility and have the right mindset in order to create a great environment, but the department/team I was on was the worse experience I ever had in my career.  

I was being trained by a co-worker that was going at a fast pace, and wanted me to ask questions, but when I asked questions, they always stated that "we already went over this".  When I mentioned if we can slow down some, she basically told me that we want to make sure we go over everything, but still said to ask alot of questions. It got the point to where we both were getting frustrated, someone that is training some not be frustrated with someone that was new that want to ask questions.  This was the source of my lack of knowledge or speed of getting through the work. They did try switching it up, but then it was me relearning while having accounts to handle.  I honestly feel that it is a good place to work, I was just dealt a bad hand with who my co-workers were because they were the source of my initial training. It was more so a "Not my problem" mentality.  I was the 3rd person they replaced in a 2 year span.  Hopefully that should tell you about the department in Credit.  The individual that was "training" me even said that they are not a good trainer.  Thats bad, because I need to learn the material and since everything was so manual, and no actual formal training, that creates a disastrous outcome, which is did and I was released due to it.  

Also to add, agencies that we worked with liked to point the finger and not take ownership. I informed that I am not the one to do that, and whenever something was not completed it was pointed to me because I did not fully complete the task, even when it was verbally communicated everything was all set and no further questions.  

This explains the reason for the worse professional experience I ever encountered. The biggest issue was how training was handled, she just didn't know how to explain in different ways and I suffered due to it.

This company can be a good entry point for someone looking to gain underwriting experience and learn the basics of the insurance industry. However, in my experience, it was not an environment that supported long-term growth and career development.

The culture felt very much like a “good old boys” network where advancement often seemed to depend more on who you knew and the relationships you had rather than your skills, education, work ethic, or performance. There appeared to be limited opportunities for diverse talent to progress, and the environment did not always feel inclusive or welcoming to employees from different backgrounds.

I also experienced the workplace as being hostile at times, with a lack of transparency around advancement opportunities and inconsistent support for professional development. For employees seeking mentorship, diversity, and a clear path for career progression, this may not be the best place to build a long-term career.

During my short term with the company, I was hired in a senior position.  My manager who did not have a degree in the field that she was managing, micromanaged her staff.  Had I known that she had fired two employees in our department in the six months prior to me being hired, I would have asked more or different questions about expectations during the interview.  I may not have decided to accept the position had I known about her strained relationship with the other staff members.  Within six months of my being fired, she fired the other two senior staff, although each of had met or exceeded our goals and expectations.  We were all professionals in our field, worked well with our clients, and worked efficiently to provide the best services we were able to.

An Insurance Company with excellent products, but limited understanding of how to handle Contractors to due ignorance of the Kotecki Ruling.  Upper Management had the right idea,at first, and was involved in Relationship building with the Agents.  But, some of the Offices became poisoned by allowing certain people promotions, who never should have been beyond a Line Loss Control Rep., etc.. The company eventually retracted their presence in the state of Illinois and gave up on a lot of potential opportunity due to their foolish internal appointments....  Sad.

I enjoyed working at Amerisure. I started as a mail clerk and worked up from there to files, computer entry, and finally commercial lines rater. My job as rater included figuring premiums manually, adding endorsements to the policy, and assisting underwriters.

I was sent to the home office for training on how to change our company from manual files to computer files.  It was then my job, with another co-worker to transfer our office from manual to computer files. At that point we put all data into the computer for processing.

The hardest part of the job was knowing what endorsements had to be added to each file.

The most enjoyable part of the job was making lifelong friends.

Amerisure has been my work home for several years, and I actually enjoy my job. We went remote in 2020, and many of us have never looked back. I love the support that the company has given us to work from home, and unlike other companies doesn't have any intention of bringing us back to the office full-time. They have embraced a hybrid model, and if you don't need or want to come into the office, you don't have to. If you need to have office space available, it's there. 

Management is supportive and really seems to want to work with me to accomplish my career goals. I've been promoted several times, and I am looking forward to my next one already. 

The key to succeeding at Amerisure is to WORK when it's time to work, PLAY when it's time to play, and be there for your teammates. 

Amerisure used to be a great company. They cared about the employees. New corporate claims management has changed the entire atmosphere.  I worked at Amerisure for many years and always felt valued as an employee. Now Corporate management has picked their handful of favorites and everyone else is on a “list” to be pushed out.  Workloads are insane. That’s because corporate Claims Management has made it such a miserable place to work that people are leaving left and right and the poor suckers that stick it out just get dumped on.  It’s a shame because Amerisure used to be a great company. The one pro is the benefits. Although, they no longer offer a pension plan. Thumbs down from me. Stay away.

Used to be a truly great place to work; unique culture, very employee-focused.  Really & truly a dynamic work environment.  New leadership has swiftly eroded the culture and sense of fairness and trust.  Unfortunate case of 'I'm going to rule from afar and do what worked at my last organization'.  Corporate 'clubbiness'; if you weren't 'in', you were going nowhere.  Management quick to judge, but slow to actually get to know people if ever short of a crisis.  Really enjoyed working so closely with the agencies and building long term relationships with them and their insured clients.

This place was the cream of the crop when I started but has declined in recent years due to corporate management. The return to work after COVID is completely unfair in regards to who is exempt or not, with no explanation. Corporate claims continues to change formats and procedures almost quarterly. Amerisure is a mutual company so you have to communicate with the insured and the agency directly which is ALOT of extra work. They push that you only get 85-90 claims, but it’s similar to having 150 at a TPA. This place use to be a dream employer but the culture has now evolved to only pander to the agencies and nobody having your back even when you are correct.
