The company was great to work for until it began to fill management (upper&lower) with ppl who
manage multiple regions & want to manage every region exactly the same without regard to fact cultures differ from east to west coast, north to south etc! They also want everyone to learn to specialize in complex contracts & other specialty areas in the department that were done for decades by designated nurses for ease & precision. These are just a few of the many issues that lead to chaos, frustration, & high stress for the provider, customers, contracting groups, & of course staff! When you bring suggestions or let management know of a complaint they bandaid the issue if they absolutely must address it having no intention on involving the staff who actually do the work get involved in process changes to resolve & improve workflow issues! Management gaslights staff in concert with one another to make ppl feel inadequate constantly never taking any blame for any issues in the department. They will allow you to work from sun up until the next day if you’re willing. The work is typically fast paced involving a lot of steps to complete a task & if you run into a difficult case and fall behind you’re not guaranteed adequate time to catch up leaving you to stay glued to your computer for endless hours on a salary if you work from home & management never cared! The bottom line is management’s often heavily desensitized & the culture is cult like! Either you follow their lead & pretend everything’s great or you’ll be targeted and harassed to the point you’ll quit or destroy your mental & physical health. They do not mind spending thousands to train nurses only to lose them sometimes within a few short months of hire because they can see the writing on the wall & the low morale in most departments! I do not understand how they can afford to lose so many well qualified, intelligent, & well meaning nurses? 

Anthem is an exceptional company that truly stands out in the industry. As a customer, I have had nothing but positive experiences with their services.

Cons:
Many other departments frequently don't do their job, and because you work for customer service you are daily put in the position of taking responsibility for another department's mess up/error/delay in fixing a problem

When you sent things to other departments to get it fixed they are often off shore representatives that don't understand what you are saying and won't do what you asked them to do or mess up the problem more

The job has a very high learning curve before you can be genuinely good at your job

There are many things that have been major issues that remained unresolved, some for 10+ years and the higher up(like the  CEOs) have refused to fix

You are the guinea pig for basically untested technology/innovations that cause more work for you but often don't work properly but you are supposed to do them anyway 

If you support members based out of the state of California you will have to follow strict and frequently irrational state regulations that make things difficult and time consuming to do your job

There is a lot more but I really don't have enough time in the day to list them all. 




A typical day involves answering calls from the moment you log on to when you clock out. You will have to assist with many new issues daily as well as follow-up on unresolved issues. Employees are expected to walk members through every step, including sometimes calling other departments, insurance providers, or medical practices for them. Solutions however are not always clear and ultimately the root of the issue is lack of training. Training classes go over basics, but are routinely cut short due to high call volume or unavailability of trainers due to leaving the company or paid time-off. Supervisors that genuinely want to help are often busy. Ultimately the corporate culture demands you to document issues as solved even if a member is still in need. Many employees simply pass the problem along, but there is strong camaraderie among those who strive to help. Pay is simply not competitive. Perks like working from home and other formerly great benefits are slowly being phased out, even though they advertise with such. Don't let the casual dress attire and tacky decorations fool you, the job is much rougher than they let on. I would only recommend if you are being interviewed for a higher level position, otherwise, keep using Indeed.

I’ve worked in both the local market (CT) and National Accounts, both times as part of the sales/business retention teams.   As an account executive/account manager you are basically the quarter-back for client initiatives and bring that need to various internal departments - you are the “voice of the customer” to many internal operations departments that do not interact directly with employer group clients or their employees/members.  That part can be tricky as the internal departments are operations focused and not necessarily in tune with what the client experience is like.  So in a sense you are also an internal sales person - explaining the customers’ needs, and selling the solution , even if it requires operations to make a change.  Management is mostly supportive, but it depends on the individual, what experience and background they bring to their role, etc.  Again, I was there twice, once far from 1997-2004, and then from 

Your efforts will not be appreciated. The pay is very low. This company is like a cattle drive. They like to hire in a lot of temps from multiple agencies. They do not pay any medical or other benefits for 6 months and pay $15-$17.50 an hour. They choose your schedule rather than work with you with hours of requested schedule during hiring process. This company expects you to stay on the phone with abusive, cursing, screaming individuals for an hour or until the abusive party hangs up. You are expected to use several platforms and are micro-managed to death. 

The reputation of this company has dropped very low, due to the uncaring Management. 
You are just a body on the phone until the next cattle drive 6 months later. This company hires hundreds of people at once, and only temporarily, for the first 6 months with no benefits. That is a long time to go without medical, or any holiday pay. I would not refer anyone to this company. I resigned because I did not like the politics. I knew that I deserved a better opportunity for my education and skill set.

The people are great, the culture is great, what isn’t great is the amount work you do for the little amount of pay. You work with a million different work systems so you’ll have a million different browser tabs open so nothing is organized in a efficient manner, they say everything you need is in their main system but not true at all, they’re always having “outages” and then blame us the employees for missing calls, and the clients are absurd. The clients want humans to be perfect robots and want every call to be pitch perfect which is 100% unrealistic. Even when offering the best solution there possibly is, if the caller isn’t happy, you get a bad score. Completely unfair when you give every solution possible that doesn’t break the rules or is out of your jurisdiction.
They grade their calls extremely harshly without any consideration that there are just angry people out in the world, no matter how nice you are.

You’ll also get a lot of misinformation. One higher up will teach you “x,y,&z” and say “this is how you do this” and then another will say “no that is wrong, we do not do that”. So even they don’t know how to handle these systems, calls, or situations but expect their newcomers to be perfect.

This company is horrible to work for!! They lure you in with a high salary, benefits, etc...but after you're here you are treated horribly. You cant miss any days NO MATTER WHAT IT IS your first 90 days. The mgmt picks favorites and if you arent one of those few then you are treated like a criminal. They will go off of heresy and accuse you of ridiculous things. Then terminate you for being late instead of the things they accuse you of.  Be careful when applying here,  I've seen so many new hires that are actually good at their jobs be fired for jo reason...just bc one of mgmt didnt like them.  The security is a joke, they hang out in the garage and smoke,  they're racist and treat you differently as well. I'm already looking for another job bc the atmosphere is horrible.  Ita so catty,  if you ask a question about your job you are treated as if you're a dummy. They fire ppl for being on their cell phone or taking pictures in a non work area...I see so many good ppl lose their job bc of the carty mgrs...save yourself and dont apply here. Ita a set up..I dont k ow how they even are able to do what they do to employees and get away with it but they do. What they need to donisbhure new mgmt and train ppl the right way....

I worked for Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield as a Nurse Case Manger/Discharge Planner as a telecommuter (from home) from July 2012 to April 2015 when I was laid off.  


Not long after I started, we had to do mandatory overtime just about every week.  We had a normal productivity to meet each day and each week, so until we had completed that, we could not start the overtime.  I was working 12 hour days 5-7 days per week without a break.  I became very ill and had to have surgery.  It was impossible to meet their demands.


Also, at one point they changed the entire company's computer systems and gave very little and poor training and even increased the workload at the same time!  Nobody knew what to do and the hospitals were getting angry that their faxes would not go through.  My first two bosses when I started were excellent, but my last manager was mean, rude, obnoxious, and unfair.  It was so extremely stressful so I was happy when I was laid off.  

I would not recommend this company at all; however, the salary and benefits were good.

Most stressful job I've EVER had.  I think I have PTSD from this job. Wanted on forever and was thrilled to get hired.....that flipped quickly. Horrible IT. Meeting high metrics and productivity are never enough. Every keystroke is monitored. Very high pressure!!! Last minute cases, have to stay late without notice. Bosses play favorites.  Constantly audited. Grouchy and snarky trainers. Out of date charting and nothing is easy. VERY high turnover. 

Literally,  the worst job I've ever had. The stress they put you under is unbelievable. You are not important. You are a production line. A fast one that you cannot keep up with. You are given expectations that are impossible to meet.  

EVERYONE is stressed out to the max. Most of the employees are nice but some are downright nasty....Admin knows and doesn't care whatsoever and does ZERO to make things better.
