Apex Systems

Agency bungled EVERYTHING when I first got an assignment through them. It took almost two weeks to complete the background check. I've NEVER had so much trouble with a background check! Had to email in pay stubs to prove my work history. That wad the only way to get it completed. Just awful! And I was in the middle of relocating during the process so I would have to stop packing and moving to find documents to email to them. 

The assignment was great. I had a wonderful client boss and enjoyed working the assignment very much. It was a relaxed work environment. Not a lot of stress in my position. It was wonderful! Very healing from the last job I had in the same industry. The client company work culture was blissful!

There were issues getting my pay checks. They had to FedEx my first check to their office then LOST the package. No one knew anything but the receptionist, who eventually quit. Did finally get it then had to deposit it in the bank and wait a week to access the money. It was a nightmare! I almost quit over it, but I really liked the assignment and really needed a job.

The benefits were ok. No PTO or holiday pay so Thanksgiving and Christmas SUCKED! I really struggled financially during the end of November and all December because of the reduced hours. 

The client company lost revenue due to a sudden drop in commodity usage and drastic cut costs, meaning all of us contractors got laid off suddenly in a Friday afternoon. I don't fault the client or the agency. I figured it was coming when I heard the news. They can't pay people without revenue coming in. My issue was the agency took FIVE MONTHS after the fact to get my stuff from my desk back to me, and ultimately out took me contacting a client company employee to get it back. Half my stuff had been scavenged from my desk. We had been working from home so it's not like I had access to clean out my desk myself. Really irritated by that!! 

I don't ever want to use this agency again!!! And I would NOT recommend to anyone at all. Just ridiculous all the headache, especially up front. The sad thing is I had turned down a better paying position with another agency with better benefits and fewer issues to take this assignment because I really wanted to work for the client company. I do not regret taking this assignment. I just wish it could have been with a different agency.

I've been in touch with CC for several years, always hoping, always optimistic, interviewing with various new recruiters as former recruiters left and moved on. A revolving door. None of whom communicated with me, kept in touch with me, or assisted me in any meaningful way to find a temporary or full-time position.

They're a joke. Waste of time. They collect candidates like people collect Connections on LinkedIn. They never, ever contacted me to say, "hey, I have a great job I think you're a great fit for." They just shotgun email notices about a possible open position, but you never know if they're telling the truth or not. The positions on their website don't match the ones they email or the ones listed on LinkedIn. 

One of the recruiters told me that they regularly send out job opportunity notices in order to collect new resumes. There isn't even an open position. Are you nuts?! You tease people into believing there is a job when there really isn't? 

I was the perfect fit for a position and had the background and experience in what is considered a very specialized industry, so it was not as if CC was getting flooded with resumes for this position. 

I originally sent an email to my primary contact there reminding her of my experience and how eager I was to submit my information, it was then I was told she was no longer with the company, 30 days prior. So, I sent an email to my "new" contact, and also one to another recruiter who was supposedly working with me, though I never heard from him, either. 

No one ever replied. I called the office and left a message with both recruiters because I was told they were both in interviews at the time. Neither of them called me back or emailed me. What the F***?! Are you serious? This is how you treat people? 

CC is a ship of fools. A revolving door of hopeless, hapless, rude, lazy "recruiters" who couldn't recruit someone to cut their lawn without f****** it up. 

I found a great job on my own. 

Stay away. Stay far, far away. 

If this is too long, please just takeaway a fervent recommendation you do not work here. 

Unfortunately, my time at the company was far from satisfactory, and I believe it is essential to shed light on some significant concerns I encountered during my tenure.

One of the most significant drawbacks I experienced while working at Apex Systems was the company's failure to pay industry-standard compensation. It was disheartening to realize that my hard work and dedication were not adequately recognized or rewarded. This lack of fair compensation had a negative impact on my motivation and overall job satisfaction. Additionally, annual reviews were routinely cancelled which were the only opportunity for raises. 

Furthermore, Apex Systems had a concerning tendency to make sudden policy changes without any prior warning or consultation with team members. This lack of transparency and communication left employees feeling blindsided and disempowered. It created an atmosphere of uncertainty and undermined trust within the team.

Additionally, the company constantly increased expectations without providing the necessary support or resources to meet those new demands. This relentless push for higher productivity and results placed an overwhelming burden on the employees. It led to increased stress levels and, ultimately, massive turnover in staff as individuals could not maintain increased productivity. Employees were treated as means to an end. 

One of the most disappointing aspects of working at Apex Systems was the apparent "coach out" mindset that seemed to prevail within the company culture. Instead of valuing and investing in their team members, there was a pervasive feeling that employees were disposable. This approach fostered an environment of insecurity and mistrust. 

If the account manager is willing to risk losing the entire account of a big company to gain exclusivity to a particular job. The employees can't mean much.  The recruiter had HORRIBLE follow up. For every appointment we made she couldn't remember to send confirmation emails (the address, the time, etc.). She couldn't answer a question or make a single move without speaking with the account manager first. The assignment was not a good fit. The information supplied in the interview turned out to not be what the assignment was about. There is nothing worse than being bored so I had planned to finish the week and pull off of the assignment. Meanwhile, the manager at the assigned company revealed ALL of her personal business. I knew how old she was, when/how she met her fiancée, how many kids she had, how many dogs they had, where she lived, her commute to work, how she loved her Mom and hated her Dad, where they went on vacation... WHO CARES??? I was on assignment to complete a job and building a personal rapport takes time. It was just too much to reveal in the first hour. She also had terrible teeth, so the more she spoke, the more I had to view these brown, cavity filled teeth (don't they have dental?). When I did not reciprocate my information, she told the account manager I slept all day and stayed on the phone all day. Pick one you can't be asleep and on the phone. The account manager was a punk.  I understand they have to keep the client happy but you should have enough common sense to challenge something that doesn't make sense.  But I guess if you jeopardized your entire company's relationship to get the account in the first place you may want to just take whatever is thrown your way. If you stand for nothing, then you will fall for anything. Stay away they are unprofessional...

Getting to the hospital 30 min. before your shift starts to get report and learn a little about each patient on your hall is how the day starts. Depending on the shift morning, mid shift, or night determines what you have to do. I worked various shifts. If I worked the morning shift I had to get the patients up and dressed for breakfast, assist in feeding them if they could not do it themselves, and have them ready for their morning events ex: therapy, appointments. If I worked the mid shift I would assist with getting ready for dinner and showers and then into bed. Night shift was fairly easy because the patients were already in bed and the only thing to do was answer call lights, turn patients every 3hrs. and chart. All shifts required answering call lights, charting, and helping the patients to the restroom or changing them. Some patients had to be cath at certain times and bowel programs at night on the mid shift. I learned so much with this company and was able to get the majority of my sticks for being a phleb here. I learned more hands on skills and was able to work in various hospitals dealing with all types of patients with different needs and injuries. Management was excellent!! My co-workers were helpful if there was something that I wasn't familiar with or didn't know how to do they took the time to assist me and show me the proper way to do the job. It was all about helping each other to assure that the patients got the proper care that they needed. The hardest part of this job was finding the correct hospital because there are so many. The most enjoyable part of this job was getting to work in the hospital setting and use my skills but also learn other skills.

For every 2 people they hire 1 is fired. They have a horrible hands off training program that consists of mostly powerpoints and conference calls. Once they've taught you nothing in the 4 weeks of training, you are put on unqualified or extremely difficult reqs and held to the same standards, and have to meet the same goals, as their senior and professional recruiters who have have an extensive candidate list and 5-7 years of experience under their belt. There are a lot of inexperienced account managers that play favorites and put out unqualified reqs, making it nearly impossible to get a sub, not to mention the office is made up of mostly sorority girls who have known each other for years, making the dynamic over there very cliquey and political.
It is all about your numbers over there and if you don't hit the goals they set for you, you no longer have a job. This results in a lot of sneaky, selfish, and almost ruthless behavior instead of the team environment that they boast about in the interview. If you meet their initial goals they raise the bar, then if you meet those goals they raise the bar again until it gets to the point where the goals are impossible to meet and then you are fired.
Also their corporate recruiter who calls you will tell you the hours are 8-5/M-F but in reality its more like 7:30 - 7:00.
They basically throw you to the lions and expect miracles to happen and when you can't perform miracles you get fired. If you do get hired push to be part of the financial pod, the South Carolina region, or the Duke Energy Team.

I worked as defense contractor for Apex as a travel tech. It's my first contracting job & first job in a few years.

I highly recommend Apex, but for no more than a year. As I developed more experience, I received better paying job offers that Apex could not counter. I have no problem referring others to Apex, especially those I know who are starting out. In my first position with Apex, the project was completed too quick & the contractors were dismissed with only a few days notice. I suggest keeping an eye out for other positions while with Apex.

I learned much about: cybersecurity, scripting with Powershell, asset management, hardware repair & warranty work, business expense documentation (for taxes), & travel hacks at the airport. I recommend getting TSA Pre-Checked; it'll save you so much time at the airport.

Management fails to track the progress of contracts which explains why some contractors, including those on my first project, were dismissed without much notice. Most contractors got along very well, especially military veterans regardless of service branch.

For me, the hardest & most enjoyable part of the job was the travel. I don't like being away from my family but I also got to thoroughly enjoy parts of US I never could afford to visit. For holiday weekends, I managed to bring my family over to me & share the experience with them.

At the client:  If I had been the Director of this department, the whole place would be  a ghost town.  What a complete cluster F of a dumpster fire.  Power struggles and incompetence everywhere.   I was brought on supposedly to accomplish/manage one set of duties and during the three weeks that I was employed, the scope and list of duties shifted so amazingly that in the end I went from being a Senior PM to the equivalent of a materials coordinator... all because no one knew what the job was, so they created something that simply didn't have any definition.  

As for Apex... from the moment I was introduced to them, I knew that they couldn't give a flying F about me.  I was told that things were a "go" and then they suddenly stopped... and cycled THAT for 2 months.  And then within one week, after hearing nothing for a month, it went from the client being interested to my first day at work.  And the whole time Apex told me that they'd never placed anyone as high as my level, so this was all new to them.  Candidates are simply a meat market to them.  Apex is just a bunch of car salesmen needing to check a box to demonstrate efficiencies and if they get a placement, that is great for their numbers.  

Use Apex for a placement, but do not do yourself the disservice of believing anything that you are told as far as longevity or team atmosphere.  No one could possibly care less about you.  You... are on your own.  The client will break the contract and no one will even address anything about it and instead will take the standard "Washington is an at-will employment state" route and essentially tell you to get effed.

The job is at first appealing from the high pay and fast onboarding process. That's what sucked me in. I was also made to believe I had a good chance to rise in the ranks at this job. 
I knew it was a possible short term job. They made that known. However, they also said there were strong possibilies for extentions on my contract and multiple raises in the future. 
Once working for this company it's clear that there is very poor management. Communication was little to none. I had to constantly reach out to management to get any info on schedules and other tools I needed. 
Coworkers were also constantly showing up late. I was talked to multiple times about myself showing up late when this has NEVER happened. At the location I worked at, the employees for the store also liked to contact my management stating I was not there when I was. 
When I heard about my contract ending I heard it from the store employees. Not my own managers. I had to reach out via email to get any info on this. And when they responded I was told I had 8 days till my contract ended. That is ridiculous. And the make matters worse they changed my scheduled hours for my last week of work. I went from a scheduled 40 hours to 15. I reached out via email about that as well but got no response. 
In the end I also emailed their HR about my experiences and difficulties; again, no response.

Over all I had a very bad experience at this company and I would never recommend anyone to work here. It's clear management does not care about their employees. We are just expendable to them.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Apex is a very good company, that cares about the community as well as its employees.  I was very proud and happy to work there for nearly 10 years.  They have a very professional environment, team building events, a Quarter of Caring with emphasis on giving back to the community.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
We had two times a year in my department where we were overwhelmed with calls and emails. But those were specific to the job I had.  After 9 years of nothing but growth, they have had some recent layoffs.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very professional, with employee training, wellness events, team building and community involvement. It was among the top 2 or 3 companies I have worked for in terms of professionalism and positive working environment.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Every job is specific, but for what I did, I started early and spent my day handling phone calls and emails with questions and requests for support. We always had an hour lunch and usually time for our breaks. Reviews happen every January (with a mid-year check in usually around June). We did employee ratings yearly, with specific questions about employee concerns and always rated among the top 10 workplaces in Richmond, Virginia. You will find few companies as professional and conscientious as Apex Systems.
