A typical day in my current role is diverse and fast paced . I begin my day by making a list of all the tasks I need to complete for the day. I organize them by priority and the time they are due. This helps me stay on track and utilize every minute. The main task is to support customer relations by answering phone inquiries and process new loss reports for numerous departments. In between calls, I am responsible for indexing documents into the appropriate file, processing checks, drafting and producing material that is distributed to internal and external customers and scheduling appraisals for consumers. It is imperative that while I am conducting these tasks, I maintain communication with my department managers and peers to ensure consistency. 

As a Claims Service Representative, I support communication between internal and external customers, the claim department managers and independent sale agents. As someone that works with customers daily, I am responsible for addressing all claim inquiries, making sure that all documents and payments are sent in a timely manner and ensuring the consumer is satisfied with their service. I assist the managers by delegating projects, conducting team meetings to explore ways to improve the work flow, discuss concerns and any new training opportunities. The sales organization consists of independent agents that I interact with daily to assist in claim processes, coverage questions and provide the agents with the proper tools; making sure our customers are satisfied. The relationship with the agent is significant because they help maintain retention and generate new business.

Arbella provided useful training courses covering insurance knowledge and MS office skills. I was able to take MS Excel I and II which improved my understanding of Excel. I learned how to utilize short cut keys, how to create effective pivot tables and calculate data results using different functions which might be useful for my future career. I also took How Insurance Works class that gave me better understanding of insurance industry in terms of identifying and understanding different types of insurances products, and Insurance Financial class which taught me how to calculate insurance related ratios such as combined ratio.

Arbella human resource department arranged me to select and visit various departments that I am interested in such as Marketing, Corporate Communication, Customer Service, Finance & Accounting and Actuarial. This is what I like the most of Arbella co-op program. Thanks to job shadows, I could get a comprehensive understanding of how each department worked together and I was able to have conversations with managers of each department who have been dedicated to work at Arbella over 10 or even 20 years. I could feel their passion and love of being part of Arbella. It might be one of the reasons why Arbella could grow into a successful and well known company in New England from an unknown and small private business.

Management: It appears they are always rearranging management positions. Different demands from different team leaders.

Workplace Culture: They are committed to their customers in which the majority have been insured for many years. They have created some products which are unique to the market. They focus on tradition of being available to customers the majority of the time. They donate and have several fund raises for the community. The majority of their  focus is the community and wants to get the message out that there are here for them. (Domestic Company).
  
Hardest part of the day is to complete everyday task, such as mail, return of phone calls. keep up with the new claims coming in and attending unscheduled meetings which occurred a great deal.

The most enjoyable part of the day is getting satisfaction of helping the customers and directing them on how and what to expect from their claim and making them at east. Also socializing with co-works on a sporadic basis.

The first position as a servicing agent for an outside agency, was reviewing and explaining insurance policies to homeowners and vehicle owners.  The servicing agent department was concluded, so the second position was a transfer to the Customer Service department to advise insurance billing information.  Management was not supportive of the entire department for career advancement.  The co-workers at first were very kept to themselves and non-sociable, but a new age of employees were hired as temp-permanent and changed the environment productively.  The hardest part of this position was being able to relate in a business and interpersonal sense with management and the associates.  The enjoyable part was finally being recognized as the best customer service representative of the month provided by a recognition plaque.

Initially, I worked part-time for the Billing and Collections Department at the Payment Desk receiving checks from customers for their auto and/or homeowner's insurance payments.  I also worked full time for the same Department processing payments "upstairs" and preparing commission reports for senior management.  The 2nd half of my day I would work at the Payment Desk.  In addition to this position, I worked as a Claims Service Specialist in the Glass Claims department processing invoices and communicating with vendors, customers, and my colleagues to resolve any issues. The most enjoyable part of my job was helping customers with their claims and collaborating with various glass companies.

If you are starting out in insurance and in your early 20s it's the best place to start your career. Awesome perks in Quincy office, Cafe, cafeteria and on site free gym with reduced price group exercise classes. People are friendly and nice, great culture. Not a ton of room to advance, you'll get a raise and bonus every year but if you want to make more money you'll probably have to work elsewhere. A lot of lateral opportunities. Great place to learn. They really do give back to community. You can pick a day once a year to volunteer. I worked at an animal sanctuary and cancer retreat center instead of working for a day. Really cool place to work. Great experience. They have excellent communication, you are constantly huddling to share ideas. Super organized and amazing career mapping and job matrix. 

You’re constantly overworked at Arbella with no work life/home balance. Tyrant supervisors and management. Management has their personal favorites and if it isn’t you then too bad. You’re scared to report issues to HR because HR is intertwined with management and assistant vice president. It’s a lose/lose. Tons of claims come in daily, you’re expected to follow up on older claims as well as new within 7.25 hours. The pay is minimal as opposed to other insurance companies. 1 percent profit sharing bonus of your salary. No bonuses, rarely any overtime. Dead end job with no advancement nor growth. Lackluster management, dedication of your life to the job, no proper training. Would not recommend

Arbella is a great company to work for. The benefits are better than most companies. Co-workers and management make the work bearable. However, the down side is the amount of work. Depending on the time of year it can be quite busy and you may find yourself having to come in early, stay late, or work from home to keep up. The job is quite stressful as you have to balance alot of things at once all while dealing with people who are in a bad mood as no one likes dealing with insurance companies. Overall, the company and culture are great, but the job is stressful and sometimes not enough time or people to get the job done efficiently.

Over the years, I have improved my customer service skills due to increased volume and phone calls. The work environment in the West Springfield office was very pleasant and my co workers were fun to work with and be around. The hardest part of the job was the handling the increased volume of claims and limited amount of staff. Additionally, knowing that a claim was fraudulent and yet being unable to prove it. The most enjoyable part of the job was the people I worked with and often times the insured and claimants that I could help with their claims.

Great place to work. Awesome benefits, Decent pay after working there for a year or so. Nice Area in Quincy. Really nothing bad to say about the place and how they run things. The only thing bad about it is if a manager is a horrible person then you have to deal with them. HR can't and or won't do a thing about it. If you have a manger that is nice, friendly and doesn't micro-manage you, works hard and will works with you then the place will be great and if not then your working experience there will be a nightmare.
