I willfully accepted the position of account rep. at ARS because it was close to my house and the salary + commission w/ benefits sounded good.  I soon found out I was misled about the commission, it is not really 23.5% of everything you collect after you reach your goal.  You only get the percentage that the company gets which could be as low as 40% and then you get 23.5% of that.  I actually quit a decent paying job  earlier than I had wished to because they called my place of employment to ask them questions about my work and did not speak with the contact that I had place on my resume or application but one of the owners of the company. I then had to honestly explain the call to her afterward.  I got to the training and realized they just about hired anyone who followed through with the hiring manager and showed great interest in the position.  They conduct hiring fairs just about every month.  Once you get to training they are friendly and go over a lot of company policy and require you pass a series of tests on collection regulations (state and federal).  The work day is 8.30 to 5.30 with an hour lunch. They tell you if you pass all of them then you can start working.  They try and  convince you that you will make a lot of money.  And they bring in the top collectors.  Despite the fact that I have years of collection experience, was on time and there for every day of training and passed all the tests at the end of training they fired me stating that I simply 'did not pass training' using many general phrases on why I was being let go.  In the end, management was unclear on their expectations and what would be grounds for termination.  I have no clue what I did specifically that got me fired.  This has never happened to me in my life.  And, now, I am left with a family to feed and truly unemployed.

This was my first Collections Job.  I actually applied for a different department all together but they said I would make more and would be a better collector. Okay sure why not I gave it a shot. My immediate supervisor was great and worked with me and I was on the way to becoming a better collector.  Then upper management wanted to reinvent the wheel every 2 to 3 months.  Commission cut backs, product switching, then even more micro managing.  Okay that's the way things go everywhere.  Adapted to the new product - then the client decided to micromanage the micromanaging and call fail even more. Okay more stress but it is what it is, what phone job isn't stressful.  Then another system upgrade - to better micromanage and cause phone issues when it's already difficult to collect and maintain quality. Then upper management requires even more unrealistic quotas, call count more important then actually collecting, and even more commission cut backs to where you can't commission. If your close you get even more call fails so that you don't, then they even routed callbacks so that you didn't even get credit for your own collections.  If you just want hourly good luck you might survive the 1st year they grant you. If your after commission - they will give you a taste then make it so you can't commission..  Mostly sink no swim..

This company is absolutely horrible. There is literally no respect for the employees whatsoever. Little do the higher-ups know, the ones that are on the front lines making your calls and mailing out your letters are the engine/heart of your business. The ones that bring in the revenue literally get no respect from the upper management. For a collections business, the management's only real talent is micromanaging and focusing on all the wrong things. The company barely ever hits its goal and just finds ways to cut back on compensation for the employees. They are more concerned on finding frivolous ways to take money out of your pocket than developing ways to build you up and make you better at what you do. Most of the employees are > four hundred pounds and very miserable people. In the time that I have worked here, I have met less than ten people that are content with their position. 

My advice to the upper management here - what you're doing is obviously not working. Literally nobody is happy working here. There is a reason why there is a 120% turnover rate. Your business has potential to flourish, however, as long as you have the same people running the show doing everything the same way every time, you're going nowhere. NTRS is not the answer. Take this to heart.

Working at ARS was the most interesting experience I've had since I started working. None of the employees care about their jobs and it is very laid back in regards to work ethic and dress wear. Depending on your job position it could either be very cut throat or laid back. The schedule here is very flexible and they will work with you if you have something come up. They give you sick time off and are constantly having raffles(with amazing prizes)  and giving out free food if a certain team hits their goal. They also held contest to keep employees healthy and gave gifts and had an awesome break room. Supervisors are generally great people but corporate is also on location and they tend to be not so great. It is so hard to get a pay raise you have to fight tooth and nail so I recommend you get the highest amount possible going in. No one cares if you show up late or leave early. And you are not valued there. There is an obscenely high turn over rate because this place drains you. The work is very repetitive. If you need the flexibility and are okay with being on a commission based salary and not having a set income this place is for you.

As a Supervisor I was the person who is responsible for managing a team of collectors/agents; to ensure individual agents are performing against targets (meeting their daily, weekly and monthly goals), reviewing their performance and coaching/training them to do so. I met with individuals on a regular basis with their Stats both to provide feedback but also to offer an action plan for improvement (if needed). I was also responsible for keeping the collectors informed of what was happening in the center and anything that may have impact on them. Such as dialer-campaign job was done, or corporate training was scheduled. On occasion, I was directly involved in the recruitment and interviews of new agents or working on specific projects for the call center.My management style is hands on and tailored to the individuals skill set.

Just don't even bother about the only reason to work there is if you have absolutely NO job, if you are working don't leave your current your job for this place. Everything they say to get you to work there is a lie they have a 10-20% turnover a month.  There is no team spirit, warmth or actual training except for about 1.5 weeks and then you are on the phones and then are expected to get every call 100% scripted right every time or get a fee, fine and threatened if not fired over it.  You will not get commission and then every month they come up with a new way to take away the money you can collect but the amount expected to collect increases, I.e. if someone goes into a store to pay their bill it doesn't count towards revenue on your accounts collected  for June  yet you needed to collect $8,000 and then in July  $9,000 and now if they pay the bill online it doesn't count towards your revenue either.

The day is spent in a call center atmosphere, mostly outbound calling, dialers, and some inbound calls. It can be stressful but your attitude will also dictate your day. You have all tools at your disposal to succeed at the job and depending on your direct supervisor have all the support you need to be successful. 
 My co-workers have become a second family to me, and are a wonderful to go to work with daily. We rely on each other for help during the day on our calls. 
 The atmosphere can be very immature at time and some of the staff aren't qualified to be in management but somehow keep there jobs while the reps leave due to the disorganization at times and the immature nature of some of the supervisors. Like all places there are good and bad with everything though. 
  The hardest part of the job is not taking the work personally. If you can do that and are willing to learn and speak up when you have issues than this can be a good place to work

I totally agree with most posts.... At first(first 2 wks training) they "management" makes you feel welcomed n appreciated.. After your sent to the floor to start collecting, ur on your own... You can ask for help but no one cares unless your a "top" collector...meaning unless your collecting debt everyday n working about 7 days a wk and long hours n doing shady things to collect eith management being awared, your no one there... I worked for a yr there n was worst experience EVER!!! top collectors cheat their way through including sleeping with management... I was there for about "1"yr n witnessed 4 supervisors havinh some type of personal relationship with their employees... Management didnt care because these "employees" and or supervisors brought in money for the company.... Always preferences.. They said they would help if you needed it, but when you asked yoi were ignored n when they get tired of you you got fired!

At ARS if you're buddies buddies with a supervisor or manager than your position is secured. What I mean is there are "employees" who pretend to be working?? Either on the phone, on spreadsheets, negotiating. Etc... When honestly and truly they're not. Managers sit in there office all day long. never do they interact on the floor with the employees. Very rarely will managers do a second talk off. They're especially a few employees who are sleeping, on Twitter, on there phones all day long and the one that sits at the end is the one in charge to tell the other two if upper management and/or monitoring is on the floor. And when this isn't happening these 3 individuals will take long breaks go outside and be on there phones for long periods of time: SG , KS, LS  are bullies, they run the attorney floor. These are the individuals ruining it for everyone else. Hope this information helps.
