I’ve been at Normandie for a little over a year now, and within that year, A LOT has happened/changed. For the first maybe 4-6 months, I loved Normandie Ridge, the people I worked with, the residents, even sometimes management. I eventually learned that everyone you work around, including your head supervisor, gossip like it’s high school, and tell your business to your fellow coworkers, at least that was my experience in my department. Management won’t do anything about genuine issues brought up to their attention, HR is powerless. You’ll get write ups and retaliated against for providing proof to said issues within your department. The directors let your supervisors scream in your face/treat you badly, and single you out and you’re the one who gets in trouble for it. Nursing pretty much runs that place, if you can’t provide them something they need because your departments budget has capped for the month, you’re getting daily lies told about you to your bosses. Benefits are good, but very expensive. PTO is bull, the attendance policy is ridiculous (it used to be a lot better, but recently it updated). You’ll just feel used, uncomfortable and drained if you stay here for longer than a couple months. Unless you’re in with the clique and have favoritism on your side. Some of the CNAs/LPNs are amazing and the best people I worked with. The residents in skilled nursing and memory care are amazing people, independent living side of the community though, they are rude and disrespectful/stuck up and make you dread working around them. There is also a HUGE lack of communication throughout every single department, so a lot of issues rise daily because of that. I would love to be able to recommend normandie ridge, because I truly did  used to enjoy this place, but now I just wake up with anxiety even thinking about having to go and be around certain peers. There’s a lot of other retirement/nursing communities around the area that you’d benefit a lot more from. 

After being hired, Asbury sounded like the job of my dreams. They hammer in the notion that "the residents come first" and since I strongly agree with this way of thinking, I jumped on board. Unfortunately I would find out that wasn't the case. I worked in the new pub and I worked under a company that runs the kitchen/grille/pub/dinning room called Sodexo. Sodexo is a poorly managed company who sees no need in becoming exceptional, mediocrity is their creed. Their management lies blatantly to the residents and I found out that putting the residents first was not high on their check list as "this is a business" or so I was told. My concerns that the residents expectations were not being met seemed of no interest to the management team. I was working on weekends mostly alone with no management anywhere in sight. When I would be asked by residents "where is your help/management? " I would tell them the truth, that there was no help/management in the building, then I would be told by management not to tell the residents that. "There is always a manager here" is what I was told to say, which was a lie and I would not conform to their incessant half truths and blatant lying. So once I handed in my 2 week notice, they messaged me to call and after working 2 shifts after putting in my notice they told me that my services were no longer needed. No exit interview and the "director of dinning" never spoke to me after I put in my notice. I cannot begin to tell you how wonderful the residents at Asbury are, they were the only reason I stayed as long as I did, they are intelligent, kind, sweet and uplifting! Unfortunately Sodexo is none of these things, they put on a good show for banquets and catering but day to day management is lazy and incompetent.

I worked as a Staff Nurse at Solomons Island, in the Rehab Unit. Everything was top-notch. Very well-organized system. The training was more than adequate; they really made sure that I was prepared for the job. Answered any questions I had, reviewed difficult tasks until mastered. Continuing education, as well as educational reimbursement/scholarship opportunities are available. The pay is outstanding! Advancement is provided and encouraged. Computer system (Vision) is extremely user-friendly. Supplies are well-stocked;  equipment is well-maintained, and all is top-of-the-line. Scheduling is done monthly; PRN pool is plentiful, so time off is easy to manage. The facilities and grounds are beautifully maintained. Employees are allowed to use amenities on their off-time for free-- pool, gym, fishing pier, etc... Benefits are great as well. Admin and staff truly care about residents, and each other, and work together to provide the best of care. If I wouldn't have moved to SC, I could have easily stayed until retirement!

I absolutely love my job as an administrator in our assisted living! Every day, I have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of our residents. The work is incredibly fulfilling, and I feel a deep sense of satisfaction knowing that what I do truly matters.

As an administrator, I oversee the daily operations, ensuring that our residents receive the highest quality of care and support. I work closely with a dedicated team of caregivers, nurses, and support staff who share my passion for making a difference. Together, we create a warm and welcoming environment where our residents can thrive.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is building relationships with the residents and their families. It's heartwarming to see the positive changes in their lives and to know that we are making a difference. The environment is supportive and inspiring, which makes coming to work a joy. I couldn't ask for a better role or a more rewarding career.

Asbury is a unique Provider and Employer in the Senior Living/Continuum of Care Retirement Community Industry.  The organization is focused on a mission of caring for people.  This is not an easy mission as no human is perfect but Asbury recognizes that and has policies which work to coach people when they have opportunities to improve. Asbury wants to be a relevant organization that leads its industry as a Community of Wellness for Residents and Associates focused on Quality of Life Experiences.    They continue to look at what is next so that they can innovate and diversify how they deliver care.  Asbury Methodist Village is a huge community but works had to recognize Associates for their contributions and focus on their individual goals.  Asbury Associates and Residents work hard to make it a Great Place ti Live and Work.

The residents are lovely, working for them is a joy. This is a shame because management is like a sour patch kid. One minute you're being sweet talked and think you're appreciated, the next your job is being threatened because you won't kill yourself to get to work in a snowstorm... Or whatever it may be at that time. It's unacceptable, and if you accidentally clock in one minute past your time you will get chewed out because it creates too much of a hassle for HR. (NO stress guys, just make sure you don't get stuck in traffic or drive carefully in that snow storm even if you leave super early!) At Solomons in particular, they have a horrible time holding on to staff and are often very understaffed. There is gossip and whispering, which is incredibly childish . This could be a really great place if people just treated one another like living breathing human beings, not robots, and we're respectful instead of deceitful and conniving. 

A typical day at work for Asbury would start out with checking my messages and emails. Completing room reservation requests and giving tours of the community for people interested in renting. Planning onsite and offsite activities and trips for the residents. Planned the health fair and completed outreach to vendors in the area for marketing purposes. Kept track of the supplies and the budget that I updated frequently.

I learned how to properly network and plan events on a more professional scale. I learned how to propose a budget and communicate with people who have one or more disabilities due to aging.

As far as management goes, most people are really nice but they let people who aren't management influence too many things.

The hardest part of the job was when my resident passed away.

Amazingly low pay rates and consistently low raises.  Raises are actually getting lower each year. Asbury communities is a very greedy and fake corporation. They do not take care of the staff (though they love to talk about how great they are to the staff), appreciation and recognition are not given to staff except for the occasional free lunch, loyalty doesn't matter you'll get nothing extra for it nor recognition for all your hard work and years of service, benefits are mediocre, and they are very few incentives to work there AND stay there long term. The managers do try, but top corporate staff will not allow any changes to increase pay or incentives, they would rather give you that free lunch twice a year instead of reflecting it in your paycheck. They can't figure out why no one is applying even though they have been told which further shows the greed and lack of value for staff.

When I first started I was pleased with the job. Management seemed great, the other servers all got along with eachother, and the residents for the most part were kind to us. Then we got new management and they had no idea what they were doing and it became a total disaster for those who had been there for awhile already. Needless to say, we all searched elsewhere for jobs.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Forestview is one of the few long term care facilities in the area that is decent and clean. It’s not a bad environment to work in and the workload is manageable. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
My main issue is with the cost of health benefits.  All other issues are minor and consistent with the current situation in healthcare…mostly staffing issues. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It can be stressful at times just like any other ltc job…but on the whole, it’s a busy, but not hectic pace. I had time to chat with my residents while passing meds. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
After shift change report, first and second scheduled medication passes, txs and finger sticks are completed. Assessments and charting are also completed.
