This job was a transitional job.  I was moving down to Illinois from my home town and I thought staying with the company but moving down a position would be a good idea.  Unfortunately I found that people who have nothing to do all day tend to get very bored of each other quickly.  A typical day at work would be coming in, completing the opening procedures, and waiting sometimes for hours for people to come into the bank.  Once they were helped, you could be waiting for hours again.  I lasted 2 months in this job, the shortest time I've held a position, because of two things. 1: I couldn't get full-time employment, meaning I couldn't rely on my paycheck to cover the higher cost of living in this area.  2: all of my experience with the organization was unappreciated, and the boss treated me like some kid out of high-school when I was respected in my previous position.

I learned that I need to maintain mental stimulation otherwise I get extremely ornery.  Also there was teller training which taught the basics of being a teller for a bank.

My boss was pretty much everybody else at the branch.  We had a teller manager who was 6 years younger with me, a senior teller who was 30 years older than me, a bank manager who was about 5 years older than me, a personal banker who was my age, and a loan officer.  Each and every person there was considered higher than me on the totem pole, and it drove me nuts.  Did I mention they all were full time when that was the one thing I needed to survive?

My co-workers were few.  The teller manager wasn't a bad guy, he was just bored and interested in different things than I was.  The older lady had some really interesting stories from when she followed a band on tour in her younger years.  The others did not impress me.

There were no hard parts, this job was a breeze and a half.

The most enjoyable part of the job was that I was able to study or do pretty much anything on the internet during my time there so long as it didn't interrupt the few customer interactions we had.  I studied engineering as a side project and even started to learn a programming language on my own.  This eventually became too much free time and I realized it was just not for me very quickly.

I recently interviewed for a part-time teller position with Associated. I have over 16 years in banking and lending, and have worked in all aspects of the industry except for real estate lending. Therefore, as a teller, I am more than qualified for the position.

My initial phone interview with HR went very well. She said that I would hear from the hiring branch manager within a couple of days. Two weeks passed before I finally received a call for a face-to-face interview. That interview also went very well.

The manager explained that they had one more interview to conduct that Friday and that I would hear something by Tues. or Wed. of the following week either way. By the following Friday I hadn't heard anything. I assumed they had hired someone else. 

Two weeks later, on a Friday, I received a call from the manager explaining that the hiring process had been delayed and that he would like to speak to me regarding some questions that he had. I was not able to return his call that day. However, first thing Monday morning I called and left a message. No one returned my call. I called again later that afternoon, and the person I spoke with told me that he was in a meeting all day. I left another message. Once again I never received a call back.

I, unlike most people, am not desperate for a job. 

I feel that it is extremely unprofessional to not return someone's phone call, regardless of whether you've decided to hire someone else. I was returning his call after all. 

I don't know if this is how the company works in general, or if it was a management issue. What I do know is that I question whether I would want to work for a company who talks about providing good customer service, but doesn't return prospective employees phone calls. I think this is just another reason why I got out of the banking industry to begin with.

I worked in the corporate office in downtown Milwaukee. Before joining the organization, I was genuinely excited about the opportunity and had high expectations without knowing much about the company’s reputation.

One positive aspect of the company is its flexible remote and hybrid work model, which provides employees with a good degree of flexibility. 

Unfortunately, my overall experience did not meet expectations. I observed a culture where internal relationships and cliques often seemed to influence decision making. Leadership quality varied significantly across departments, and there were times when processes and policies appeared to be applied inconsistently.

Turnover seemed higher than what I have experienced at other organizations, which often created challenges around continuity, communication, and employee morale. I also found the culture to be less collaborative and professional than I expected from a large corporate organization.

Compensation was another area of concern. In my experience, pay was not always competitive with the market. Candidates should have detailed conversations about compensation early in the hiring process, as the salary ranges posted on job descriptions may not always align with the actual hiring budget for the role.

There are talented employees throughout the organization, and the flexible work arrangements are a meaningful benefit. However, if you are seeking a highly professional and collaborative corporate environment with strong leadership and clear career growth opportunities, your experience may vary significantly depending on the team and leadership group you support.

I worked as a call service rep in Stevens Point. The training was one-on-one because of my school schedule, which I appreciated. Associated was also flexible with my school schedule and the position paid well for a person pursuing her undergrad. The people I worked with were generally kind, friendly, encouraging, and helpful. I worked part-time during school and went to full-time over the summer, which were 1 pm -10 pm shifts, one hour for lunch, and every other weekend off. 

However, like many call center positions, the job eventually became emotionally draining and not worth the higher-than-average hourly pay. I would listen to people constantly scream at me over the phone because of overdraft fees, not receiving debit cards in the mail, fraudulent activity on their accounts, etc. Finances alone are a sensitive issue and while I understood their frustration with Associated Bank’s mostly bogus fees and lack of care toward their members when their security system failed (which was often) and they had money stolen from their account, sometimes the caller insults and ranting sent me to the bathroom crying. 

I would not recommend working here unless you have call center experience, can defeat the “phone rep burn out,” and are in a good place with your mental health. I ultimately quit because I transferred schools, but was relieved to leave for the sake of my sanity. I also ended up owing the company close to $300 in back-pay from vacation time I took, so make sure your PTO balances are evened out if you quit. Though this was my fault, I wish the benefit logistics (PTO, 401K, etc.) were better explained.

If Associated Bank wants to continue to pride themselves on diversity and inclusion, they need to train their managers and market managers on how to work with people with disabilities. I may not be in a wheelchair, but complex PTSD is a real disability. I continually got written up for things that were trauma responses in me because of the PTSD. 

They will also tell you that part of your benefits package is 80 hours of sick time a year, however they work on an occurrence system and you WILL get written up and potentially fired for using the sick time “benefit”. I have seen it happen to many people in my time at Associated.

They also say they are a needs based bank, meaning they are not sales driven. This is not true. I have personally witnessed managers push customers into applying for credit cards, only to have those customers not be able to handle them and actually have detrimental things happen to their finances because of it. 

Many business customers won’t even come into the branch, and will only utilize the drive thru to avoid managers who are overly pushy with sales tactics. 

If a customer so much as says they might be interested in a product, you are expected to hound them and break them down until they open the product, whether you personally believe this is a good fit for the customer or not. It is so about sales and numbers to Associated.

The only reason I gave this employer 2 stars instead of 1 is they have outstanding pay. If that is all you care about in a job, then this is the place for you. But if you have a soul and actually care about bettering peoples lives, run far away.

I was looking for a career change when I found a job position open as a teller at Associated. One of the worst mistakes I've made and by far the worst job I've ever had! 
-The management played favorites, ignored issues brought to them by the employees, said one thing to keep employees happy but did the exact opposite, and straight up didn't care about any of the employees or their concerns. 
-The training the company makes you do, even just for a teller position, is extensive, rushed, and is a sink or swim situation because on your own. Management doesn't even help you with it or answers your questions. 
-They expect you to adjust your availability for the good of the company and customers, not caring about your family life or events. The customers are mean, entitled, and downright rude to you. 
-The company also makes your job depend upon selling and pushing products to customers.
-Vacation time is earned based off of how many hours you work. So if you take any vacation days that you haven't "earned yet" and leave the company, they deduct that money from your final paycheck. They also won't let you keep your 401k through them, so you HAVE to withdraw funds early, making you pay for it on your taxes at the end of the year. The company tries to nickel and dime you any way they can once you leave!

Working for this company definitely wasn't worth the pay you make, the stress it gives, and the headache management causes! The job seriously had nothing good about it. I would never consider working for them again, and would never recommend it to anyone either.

I started as a teller and then 10 months later I became a Universal Banker, 10 months after that, I became a full time Relationship Banker, or as they now call it - Personal Banker II. The job advancement is great and I love everyone I work with for the most part. Definitely has the favoritism game being played a lot. At least in my market. Benefits are great, training could definitely be better. Training use to be really nice back in like 2015 but when they let that particular trainer go, the training program changed and there really isn't much of a training. Hours are decent. Pay is meh. I make 18.36/hour as a banker. The tellers minimum pay increased in the company to 15.00/hour but my banker pay didn't budge. So where new coming tellers were at 11.00/hour and I was at 18.00, they increased $4 but mine didn't move so that really stunk cause now new comers were making just a couple bucks less than me while I was doing the teller job and the banker job all at the same time, cause as a banker, you definitely have to cover teller side a lot. PTO is good and sick time is good. The moment my BM got my 2 weeks notice though, it's like all my years (since 2012) with the company didn't mean a thing and she'd give me the silent treatment and purposely ask other employees for something that they had to come to me for so she wouldn't have to talk to me directly. Just very immature. Not all managers are like that though, some are actually very good. Overall, I loved my time with the company, even if my current BM is making all the years here seem worthless.

Let me start by saying this is the only place that I ever walked out on.  The bank is very "cliquey," on the surface many of the employees are nice, but there is a lot of gossip, and it's hard to build a good relationship with many of them.  Because of this I felt no real connection to working there in my two years with the bank.

The Stevens Point banking center has the worst parking.  A good percentage of employees have to park off-site, and if you are lucky enough to get parking in the actual lot your vehicle will probably get hit by another driver.  Maybe I am just unlucky, but my vehicle got dinged up multiple times in that lot while I was at work.

The bank does offer a pretty competitive benefits package, which was good.  This includes reimbursements for computers, gym memberships, and more.  They are willing to work with you on school schedules and family emergencies.  In that respect, the managers are very accommodating.  

But the managers spend a lot of time worrying about stupid things, like who is parked in the visitor parking and if your business casual is too casual for the workplace even though no one looks at you unless you get up to use the restroom.

Probably the worst thing of working there was how departmentalized and bureaucratic the institution is.  Like to do a simple task you often need approval from Person A or Person B, and then you need to send Form C to Department D to process the request.  And you are expected to do all of that before letting the customer know that you can do what they are asking.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The Co-Worker’s.  Being excellent at promoting products to help customers with their banking needs. Because of the team work and being in what I was offering made it easy for me. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Leaving my previous job where the manager was singling me out and harassing me and dealing with a family issues that were affecting my ability to separate emotionally and caused me to fear losing my job for mistakes that could have been prevented and being given one more chance before I would be fired.  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very supportive and great team work. My supervisor was fantastic along with the manager.  Bankers and lender were happy to take the time to explain new products to have the ability to know what to offer customers. The bankers would go above and beyond to help customers when they needed it along with help when I had a customer interested in a product to get that done so the customer would not have to leave and a chance they would not make time to come back to have a chance of helping them. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You open the bank, get your drawer, then help customers when they came in, when you were not busy the Intranet had courses that was needed to get them done. Then you closed the bank. Other down times were spent finding out about new products or enjoying other co workers company on what was going on.

My 1st memory isn’t of my interview with my branch manager but my 2nd day on the teller line, not really sure how to sell banking products, but was reprimanded by her in front of the entire staff for not having any sales conversations the day before. 

It also became an ethical issue when I decided that trying to sell a credit card to every customer regardless of the reason they are at the bank, was not always in the best interests of my customer. 

I also had to fight for weeks to be able to use my own signature after i was told my initials & signature can’t be the same. I’ve been doing it for over 15 years and you can’t tell someone how to sign their name. 

You will be made to feel guilty about using sick/personal time if you are actually in need to use it. The company works off of an occurrence based attendance system, which is completely fine, however the branch manager calls out, leaves early, shows up late with no consequences. How is someone with the poorest attendance, going to penalize me for something she is taking advantage of?  

As someone in sales for over 20 years. Management for 15 years. i was hired in and paid very little over starting salary.

You will go through a very brief training and then just be expected to figure it out for yourself once you actually have a customer. I like the companies visions and mission statement, however they need to invest a little more into a training program and have a human resource department that is open to listening to its employees
