Assurant is one of the best jobs I have ever had. There is no typical day lace up your running shows and get ready! I could have no work for an hour after my shift starts to being slammed with a network outage in California, China, the UK or any other number of offices that Assurant has, not to mention there may be a problem with a business partner unable to connect through VPN, or a cognizant user unable get his VDI or VMware started from the moment I sat down. During this time some may call it stressful, but I adapt well and view it as an adventure. The only routine I have is to open up at least 6 applications on startup. Everyone in my dept has a dual monitor setup to assist with Assurants fast paced environment. I am a level II analyst this means I’m responsible for my work as well as assisting other analyst who may have contacted me with sametime which is a messaging tool used in Lotus notes. I may occasionally get walk ups as well. My manager was not onsite he is located in Woodbury Minnesota so it's important to send him chat messages to stay in constant communication letting him know when I was working with other analyst or was going to be off the phone. I was a member of the training team at Assurant responsible for coming up with ideas and updating the training manual to assist new hires with our on boarding process. Our Help desk has so much to know and so many procedures we wanted an efficient way to teach our new hires without them feeling over whelmed. I also have assisted with many different projects recently we had a new soft phone rollout this is the software used to alert us that we have a call on the line which opens up our HP service desk which is our ticketing system. The soft phone is a Cisco product which allows HP service desk to auto populate the ticket with the customer’s information. I was on a small team that tested and recorded our findings on the problems that we may have found with the soft phone. I worked closely with the business analyst from Assurant and was able understand their jobs and given a different perspective. I developed a working relationship with the manager and several members of her team.
There was a project where management wanted a better way to keep track of the type of calls the help desk was receiving. I assisted with this project by coming up with questions on certain templates in HP service desk which allowed analyst to help management pull the reports from key words and phrases in the service desk ticket.
Assurant Help Desk managers are always wanting to stand out on top and be the best. So our director wanted to reduce our password reset calls and wanted to try and find the repeat offenders.
My supervisor set a task before me in an Excel spreadsheet to research repeat offenders, both external business partners and internal employees who called the helpdesk often for password resets.
I was able to contact the repeat offenders and provide them the necessary tools allowing them to reset their passwords on their own; later my supervisor told me that our other help desk locations were responsible for the same project but based upon the way I did my project 2 of the other groups had to do their projects over again.

Assurant is moving to an HP shop this means we have a contract with HP and will be getting rid of our IBM machines and any desktop or laptop that is not HP. Everyone at the help desk has a laptop in the event of a hurricane in Miami which will totally disable the help desk there. So the Atlanta help desk was created five years ago for extra support. Everyone was provided laptop in case we are needed to work from home. We have a desktop support team which is the face of IT at Assurant and of course they get stopped on the elevator or in the hall ways all the time. (No wonder they leave the building for lunch).

I have assisted with reloading laptops with the Winxp image and loading Novell with my build ID and helping to clean the build room where the printers, laptops and hardware are stored. These guys sit next to us and we often help each other out with complex issues.
I hope this little insight of my job at the Assurant help desk gives you some insight as to what can happen at life at Assurant.

A typical day at Assurant Solutions - well it depends on the day to be quite honest. To be fair, most of the problems that face this company come from the mentality of the management and of the workers.  The workers are generally good people, but there is no incentive to perform - so they generally do not.  There are several people who are stand-out workers, but they are the exception not the rule.  The mindset of several members of the management is one of passing interest, condescension, and is overall very toxic.  Some of them view their workers as lazy, replaceable, mooches and do not respect them whatsoever.  Do not get me wrong, there are good managers at Assurant Solutions, but the culture that is propagated at my facility is not a positive one.  

Management often takes on projects which challenge their employees, which is good - however the follow through and preparedness for those projects leaves something to be desired.  The hardest part of the job is the mind-numbing repetition of the entry-level work.  The worst part about it is you have to be in the position for nine months in order to even be considered for a promotion.  Anyone who has any qualifications is immediately going to try to find a different job once they realize the implications of this policy.  The most enjoyable part of the job is the people.  There are some really decent, competent people at Assurant - but they are only given the opportunity to grow once they've done their time. Even then, they will often hire people with more time with the company over qualifications depending on the circumstance. The job itself is easy, and it is not hard to hit the production requirements set out by management - and a lot of times they are so low that there is little incentive for out performing them.  This tends to lead to a culture of laziness among the lower levels of the work force - depending on the person.

 As a general rule, policies set by the HR department are followed, but employees have used said policies to the point where the application therein is uneven, biased, and non-nonsensical. There have been times where employees have reported very minor infractions on a coworker with the sole intent of retribution or to antagonize.  There are a lot of actions that are allowed to fly under the radar, and few of them are ever called out by management. 

There are several positives that I have experienced while working here, and do not want to convey the sense that there is nothing redeemable about working here.  First, the benefits given to the employees compared to other factory jobs here in York are amazing.  Second, only work 3 or 4 days out of the week and doing the work that we do, makes this one of the easiest jobs I have ever worked.  Third, there are good managers and workers at Assurant that are seeking to make the workplace experience better, and that gives me hope for the future of the facility.  Finally, the people, there are some of the best people I have ever had the pleasure to meet during my career - and to try and pretend otherwise is a disservice to them and Assurant.  The company just has trouble keep said people from going to other, less toxic, companies. 

I would highly recommend corporate Assurant take a hard look and conduct interviews of employees within the York locations of its company - because a growing sense of disenfranchisement is widely prevalent among employees on some of the shifts.  Granted, only people who are really angry or happy with a job will take the time to write reviews of their jobs.  However, I am sincerely hoping that someone at Assurant will read this review and enact positive change and engagement with its employees.

A typical day is sitting for 10 hours chained to a desk fixing cell phones.

You are required to have documents open, if they ever do open to open the same phones you open every day.  The computers are so bogged down that you can literally wait all day and a pdf file will not be opened.  Oh and there are random audits on whether or not you are compliant on these kinds of things.  

Broken glass all over the desks from previous shifts employees that will never clean up because they want to look good by pretending to work up until the shifts end.  Glass on the fabric chair, because why not?  Great choice, fabric that hold glass shards....

A cleaning crew that's hired from a 3rd party that sits in the break room and never cleans anything.  Someone needs to watch the TV in the breakroom.  Speaking of the useless cleaning crew, two people will sit 10 feet away from each other just to yell back and forth instead of sitting a little closer and having a civil discussion.  So if you want to just relax on a break, you're outta luck.  Here's a bonus, they have been witnessed to clean the urinals with the same rag they wipe to lunch tables off with. Yum!

Working in the winter is awesome.  There's 60+ accident because of snow covered roads and a state of emergency is declared but the phones need to be fixed, so you better make it in to work or you get an occurrence.  Get too many and you're fired.  No excuses.  Work at assurant is life, nothing else matters.

Want to advance in the company?  Tough.  Promotions are few and far between.  Have past experience?  Who cares.  5-17 years past experience means nothing to someone who is on a final occurrence but has a brown nose and is on the bosses playstation network friends list.  If you come in and do you're job and want to move up or even over to a shift that is not as horrid, you will not get a chance to speak your case in an interview.  

You will meet some decent people, but we are are in common with our misery.  No one is happy, we all are putting on a charade to every one else to just get through the day, anyone who says otherwise is a liar.  I would take a pay cut to work a normal shift again.

Medical coverage is a joke.  I pay $500 a month for myself and spouse and the doctor bills are too high after a car payment value has been deducted from my check.  Dental might have gotten better, they recently changed providers but since the last provider was so terrible I am used to gum pain now.  Plus getting another thing done on a Friday is near impossible.  I have to shove what used to get done after or before work in a normal work week into one day before the weekend.  It never goes well.

Time off would be great if you get get scheduled off.  Only 10% of the department is allowed off at any given time.  Sounds good, except when they just want to change rules for someone that is more special than you.  Sometimes it's the departments 10% or it;s the supervisors lines 10%.  Whatever the whim of the moment is.

There's an untalked about stress put upon the employees.  It's bad.  I want to tell anyone interviewed to just go, apply at a fast food place, it'll be better off, more chances.  I probably could do that since they don't have a room to interview in, they just do it in the break room with everyone there.  How unprofessional.  

I could go on, but I'm getting stressed out just thinking about it.  I'll leave with this,  Sundays are the worst.  When it gets to be time to get to bed Sunday night I feel the black cloud coming.  It's like you know what tomorrow is.  It's back that place that feels like a jail and there's nothing that can be done..........

At the Assurant, a typical day consists of homeowners calling and voicing their opinion and/or frustrations about how nothing is ever done in a timely manner. In most cases, the customers are correct. As a first line customer service rep. there isn't much that we can do besides take the punishment and hope that the customer don't become too irate to the point that they are simply disrespectful. It is a very stressful environment. As a CSR, it is vital that you learn; really learn the procedures to be effective at your job.

I have learned a lot about how to process loss draft claims and a little on how the mortgage service industry operates. I enjoyed most of my co-workers, we were all comrades in the same fight, the same struggle, therefore, it was easy to relate and get along with each other. Management at the Assurant SUCKS! Especially, the managers that were assigned to the project that I worked on. They are unreliable and would never make themselves available to take escalated calls or whenever a homeowner asked to speak with one.

The most enjoyable part of the job was meeting and getting to know my co-workers.

The hardest part of the job is that it is very stressful. Despite, your best efforts, for the most part your 110% wasn't good enough or appreciated. I think that the training SUCKS! Training basically consists of you being "buddied" or placed "sided by sided" with someone, and less hope that your "trainer" is good at what he/she does and very tolerant of you being in their personal space for an extended period of time. Whenever, the Assurant did decide to have formal class room training, it was just as bad. They basically confine 6 weeks’ worth of training in half the time. This is done on a regular basis, where one training class would get the full 6 weeks’ worth of training; the next training class would only get 3 weeks’ worth of training in the same material. ASSEMBLY LINE TRAINING GETS THEM IN AND GETS THEM ON THE FLOOR!

The biggest problem that everyone has with the Assurant is their QA system. You are monitored on 7 calls a month and you are most likely to take about 500 plus. And, these 7 calls pretty much decide your fate. You are required to have a 98% audit average on a monthly basis. The monitored is on a 100 scale, but the simplest thing that can count against you (i.e. placing a customer on hold longer than 3 minutes, even though researching their account may take approximately 5 min.) could cost you 3 points. So, if you miss one minor thing, you have already failed the call, if you miss more than one, then there's no hope. When it comes to the process of how to "take" or "handle" a call no one is ever on the same page. Management tells you one thing, as does the team leads. But then the QA staff seems to think completely different. So, it is very stressful and taxing.

The Assurant is a place for someone who is interested in mortgage services, or the insurance side of mortgage services to start. I don't think that it's a place to map out a long term career. The powers that be make it very hard to succeed and to flourish at that place. And, they always seems to top it off with a smile.

Would I go back to the Assurant? I would go back only if I worked on a smaller project. The project that I worked on was their main focus and it superseded all others. Working on a smaller project allows you the room to breathe a little more.

I would begin my day by conecting with my team and saying good morning each day to make sure everyone was well and ready for business.
Ensure my Team lead, would communicate the work volume, assignments and expectations for the day to meet our service levels without sacrificing quality.
I would review prior day's work audits and spend time with associates who committed errors to find root cause and ensure procedures were followed moving forward.
Review and approve management reports for the day. Export previous day's report and current work volume report to analyze concentrated doc type of work and find opportunities for system enhancements to increase auto-process percentage.
Work on client procedures changes, enhancements, or implemenations to meet clients demands and ensure they're communicated to the team.

Keep my team motivated by setting healthy competions and rewarding them with certificates, gift cards, free lunch/breakfast or point accumilation for grand prize.

I learned how to increase my trust based on performance and tasks completion, behaviour on additional responsabilities, in order to grow and develop potential leaders withing the group or organization.

I also learned that by keeping communication open, being opened to new ideas, rewarding or recognizing performance as well as directing focus to solutions and results, is what keeps great employees motivated regardless if you are a manager or an individual contributor.

Management for the most part was more focused on results and at times lost focus on people and what drives them to reach their goals. I was able to communicate effectively by presenting a unified rewards/incentive program that would place senior management engaged with the performances of individuals, teams and management, by reporting to them monthly results at each level and having them sign certificates that would be presented to our associates, teams and managers with the purpose of communicating acknowledgement and appreciation for their hard work.

My co-workers were an amazing group of professionals that strived to be the best managers for their team, and we helped eachother by sharing ideas and coming together by supporting my initiative in creating a unified rewards program. I also stablished great relationships within the organization that helped me grow in knowledge and experience.

The hardes part of my job was not being successful in helping poor performers be successful in their roles and having them leave the organization.

The most enjoyable part of the job was helping each of my team members individually set personal goals and seeing them reach each one in time. Being able to sell their accomplishments and seeing them obtain that promotion was something I was proud of, although it was a bit hard to seing them move on. It was also enjoyable work with multiple departments and managers where we would come together to solve a client challenge and be able to come up with the best solution together.

A Typical Day at Work:
A typical day at Assurant began with a "Sunrise" meeting, which lasted an hour and often felt unnecessary. This was followed by generalized training sessions. The day ended with a "Sunset" meeting. The training process was overwhelming and disorganized, with inconsistent information and varying starting rates for new hires.

What I Learned:
I gained insight into the insurance industry, specifically related to homebuying, mortgages, and criteria for homebuying. The generalized training was informative, thanks to a knowledgeable facilitator. However, the transition to client-specific training was poorly managed and lacked structure.

Management:
The management style at Assurant was problematic. The unit manager was an extreme micromanager, making the work environment difficult to tolerate. Additionally, the training leaders were unprofessional, often digging into personal lives and handling issues insensitively. There was a lack of transparency and support for new hires, and communication was poor. 

Workplace Culture:
The workplace culture at Assurant was toxic. The new hire leaders and some facilitators were rude and passive-aggressive. There was an incident where a QA professional's chat revealed derogatory comments about my colleagues and I, which was unprofessional and demoralizing. The culture felt unsupportive, and there was a general lack of respect for employees.

The Hardest Part of the Job:
The hardest part of the job was dealing with the disorganized training process and the micromanagement from the unit manager(s). The abrupt expectation to take calls without adequate preparation was stressful and unacceptable. The lack of structure and support made it difficult to feel confident and competent in the role.

The Most Enjoyable Part of the Job:
The most enjoyable part of the job was the generalized training facilitated by a knowledgeable and personable trainer. This part of the training provided valuable industry knowledge and was the only positive aspect of the experience.

Conclusion:
Assurant, as a company, is fair and offers a good stepping stone for professionals looking to enter the insurance industry. However, the disorganization and poor management in the call center line of business make it a challenging environment. Everyone's experience may vary, and for those willing to take a chance, it could provide valuable industry insights. However, the micromanagement and lack of respect for personal boundaries were significant drawbacks in my experience.

You won't advance unless you are "in" with the right people even if you have more qualifications. I worked there over 5 years with multiple positions and found that people were being hired in making more then me because the yearly raises don't keep up with what you should be paid based on loyalty and skill. They skip insurance loop holes and pay fines meaning that the customer is less important than money. The policies are wonky and common sense isn't common. One of the slogans is "uncommon thinking" and you will find a lot of that here. The cover of this book is nice and smells good but when you open it up you find mistakes and it's a bad story. You will be wowed with games you don't have time to play, massage chairs you don't have time to use (and are not cleaned), medical that is really actually more expensive then it seems. Incentive is slowly dwindling and it shows that management doesn't care when you specifically never see them or someone who has been here for a year hasn't met them. Excuses are abundant and ignorance is bliss. The life will be sucked out of you,  if you are a positive person run because you will get into trouble for the most minor things. Think of it like an adult day care. You have to have cups with lids (sippy cups), it's calculated when you go to the bathroom, you have your recess (lunch), sometimes snacks are brought around if you have to do OT or when the morale is really bad. Don't forget your inspirational banners all over the walls. The positives have to be PTO and the 401k (company matched). There are people who were here for 10 years making less then people coming in at 1 year and it took years for the wages to be adjusted so that those people were at least making the minimum of most others. These were not people who failed or didn't meet stats either. If you are one of the lucky few who is noticed you will immediately be moved to a valuable higher paying position with no interview required. If you need a short term job please don't get comfortable. Management has previously said their reps shouldn't plan on being here for more than 2 years because they get worn out. Mind you they say that they have no tolerance for retaliation however, management and supervisors especially do this on a regular bases. This means most fear bringing concerns to HR or anyone else (not to mention there is a new HR rep every year so you never know if you're getting the right answers).  The attendance policy is fairly reasonable however, if you have too much bad luck in a row you'll be sorry. If someone doesn't like you it is very easy for you to be targeted until you are fired or until you quit.  If you apply here keep your head down and remember they are chronically understaffed as they have rotated the local work force through already.

Looking back on my time at this company I wish I would have listened to the people in my town who have had nothing good to say about it. It was the coldest most unfriendly place I have ever worked. We were not allowed to even speak to co-workers. The management was very unprofessional and seemed uneducated and inarticulate most of the time. They claimed to be subject matter experts but did not even know how to do what we were supposed to do. They certainly did not have any people skills or knowledge of how to properly manage personnel. We were not allowed to ask our managers or team leaders questions and we're instead left to try to figure things out by Skyping our coworkers. We were not given consistent training or on-boarding and were just thrown to the wolves and expected to know everything about mortgage insurance and what to do with it. Then when questions were asked we were condescended by co-workers for not already knowing the answer, even embarrassed in staff meetings for being new or unaware. The people in my town refer to this place as a data sweatshop, and it felt like that. We were expected to be robots and were made to feel expendable. Locals warned me to run from there as soon as I got hired and asked why I ever applied there. I didn't really think it would be that bad but it was worse than I expected and I was so happy to leave. I would not recommend this place to anyone. The pay and time off and benefits are not so bad but going in there every day was the most stressful job experience I've ever had to the point of making me miserable and physically sick. There were unrealistic demands and we were not encouraged (except on paper, so our bosses would look good to their bosses) or given the resources to do our jobs then were scolded when we did not understand. It seemed all our managers did all day was micromanage to cover their own reputations. It should be a sign that the company promotes people to management who are not deserving of their positions. It should also be a sign that the people who interview you are not even people who will work in your own Department. I highly recommend looking elsewhere for work because even the pay and benefits are not worth the turmoil of working here. I have been working for 20 years at many different types of companies and this was the most mentally taxing and socially unwelcoming job I've ever had. My favorite day at Assurant was the day I clocked out for the last time. I've never before left a job without having another lined up, so it should speak volumes that I did it here.

The management is terrible, you correspond via instant message and have to wait for ten minutes or more until a supervisor decides to reply and alot of times you have to correspond with several teams of management because others won't even acknowledge you, especially if they don't "like" you. The company is unorganized, many times it takes unnecessary time to finally locate someone with the answer, only to be told to have the customer call back or they will call them. Alot of times it was issues a customer service rep could've handled, had the superior took the time to review the notes and make a decision, as opposed to having the consumer very unhappy for them to be on hold for excessive amounts of time and then be told to call back, or info they already know. The customer service team is awesome and many times we tried to go above and beyond, but if it's out of our authority we have to "wait" until the person who can make that call, decides to advise us how to handle the situation. The only plus side is the pay is ok and the benefits are competitive, but i'm sure because the company knows what you have to put up with, the sad thing is it's not the consumers it's the members of management that abuse their authority!!! It's such a closed in setting, everyone gossips and tells other employee's business, i've never worked at such a messy place.Kind of hard to address any issues or concerns you may have, if the issue is with your superior and their "buddies" with their superior, your issue is than kind of brushed under the rug. I'm glad to have learned about the insurance industry, and I also think TWG for their reference for my new job ( company that values their employees), the key to having a happy employee, is to make sure their appreciated and not just there. The company looked ar customer service at the bottom of the totem pole, but truth be told, wer'e the main people the consumer deals with. You're really only able to actually get ahold of someone in management if the call is extremly escalated, so in actuality we play a way bigger role, than the company will ever acknowledge! My recommendations to any potential employees is don't converse too much, anything said will be spread throughout the office and if you don't mind sucking up, even if you're in the right, then this could be the company for you, also if you're content with being stuck in the same position and no room for advancement, then this is the place for you!!!

Assurant Specialty Property is a "Great Place" to work!
I worked For Assurant for 4 years and enjoyed most of my time there. Management is Wonderful and cares about you advancing with the company. There is job security there as Assurant is a very stable company with multiple locations in many cities, states and countries. If you are career driven and want to work for a great company with many opportunities for growth, then you will certainly like working for Assurant. I worked in the call center in Duluth, GA in a loss draft position for  multiple  residential mortgage lenders who outsourced their insurance-escrow accounts depts and property damage claims depts to Assurant. I grew bored in the position and stopped applying myself, which is not a reflection on the company but rather personal. Pay raises were based on performance and maxed out at 4%. Year end bonuses were given a week or two before Christmas based on how the company performed that year and maxes out at $750 which is taxed. There is room for growth within the call center as well as with the company, the call center started to send people home to work which is a good thing.
Over all I would work for Assurant again, but not in the call center.
The Director of the call center is approachable but sometimes detached and not really involved with the day to day interactions of associates. There is a high priority placed on the needs of the business, which there should be; however there is very little thought or care coming from the decision makers when it comes to employee schedules, schedules can and will change with notice, but may not be accommodating to ones personal scheduling needs, there can be inflexibility in those regards and leaves one to decide to continue in their position or leave the department if applicable or the company altogether.
Over all my experience was pleasant with Assurant,I learned a lot and grew professionally in part due to their high standards and quality.
