My experience at this company has been defined by significant challenges that prospective employees, especially those in IT, should be aware of. The organization is hindered by a lack of clear vision from leadership, questionable management practices, and a technical environment that is falling behind industry standards.

Leadership and Career Growth

There is a noticeable absence of a strategic plan for growth, and key management decisions appear to be driven by internal politics rather than merit. Promotions and raises are inconsistently awarded, creating a culture where personal connections outweigh the quality of work. Several individuals in management positions (such as the assistant VP in IT) lack the requisite knowledge for their roles, which fosters a frustrating environment for dedicated employees.

Compensation and Culture

The compensation structure is a primary concern. Pay is significantly below the industry average, a fact leadership is aware of and has actively tried to suppress by discouraging salary discussions as directed by the head of HR. The company continues to hire new, inexperienced staff even when the workload is insufficient for the current team. This budget allocation is baffling, as the funds could be better used to invest in and retain existing talent by offering competitive wages. While the company markets itself as having "family values," this sentiment does not extend to fair compensation or employee development.

Technical Environment

For technical staff, the environment is particularly stagnant. The technology stack is outdated, severely limiting opportunities to gain valuable, marketable skills. This has contributed to an exodus of senior talent, leaving a team now heavily composed of recent graduates. Consequently, engineering standards have plummeted. Code reviews are often performed superficially, if at all, and the overall quality of the codebase has seen a marked decline.

Recommendation

I cannot recommend this company to professionals seeking to advance their careers, develop new skills, or be compensated fairly for their contributions. The current leadership and technical stagnation create a dead-end for ambitious individuals. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for employment.

I've had the pleasure of working with this company for going on 4 years now in the claims department.  At Atlantic Casualty (ACIC),  we truly are a family.  People genuinely care about you both professionally and personally.  For example, the company holds cash donation raffles to collect money to assist with employees experiencing various hardships with PTO or Visa giftcard prizes.  

During my time with the company, I have worked with several managers, due to different opportunities.  All of the managers I've had are extremely understanding, supportive, encouraging and open to constructive feedback.  Each of which are dedicated to their direct reports' development and growth.  They want to know your long-term career goals and help you achieve these goals.

Similar to many other carriers in the industry, ACIC has experienced issues with turnover this year.  This turnover then affects workloads, as to be expected.  Management is aware and acknowledges the turnover issue and has made it a top priority to get proper, experienced staffing. With the heavier workload, management has adapted the expectations to meet the current situation.

It is ACIC's culture to build and value relationships internal and external of the company.  As with anything, you will get out of it what you put into it.  The company is also HUGE about promoting from within.  That being said, opportunities are always coming as ACIC continues to grow.

If you are looking for a company that values you, your family and your growth and development, look no further!  I highly recommend ACIC as it is truly a great place to work (which has been verified by Fortune).

I have not been at ACIC for very long, but I have already experienced the great culture that they pride themselves on. They hold lots of events to help people get to know one another.  I have had multiple conversations with VP's in different departments and have spoken with CEO, who have all taken in interest in getting to know me as a person. 

They are pushing for hybrid schedules, so people are in the office to build the culture, but have been very flexible with allowing people to stay home as needed for snow, ice, appointments, etc. 

They have a great training program and onboarding process that has made coming into the company easy. I typically get 3 claims a week and have a small pending. 

I would rate the benefits package as "good", I've had better at 1 company but way worse at 3 others. I feel that the pay I was offered was competitive, especially considering the yearly bonus. I particularly like that they pay $250 a month towards student loans and offer Christmas bonuses. There are quite a few perks if you take advantage of them all. 

I would highly recommend ACIC if you want to work with a small company where you can get to know people and participate in the culture. This may not be for you if you just want to "do your job" and do your own thing. 

The people, community, culture, and events at ACIC are fantastic. There are so many people here that are welcoming and encouraging to be around and to correspond with. 

This company was initially started and maintained by local employees, but has developed into a company with employees all over the United States. With that being said, it feels as though a majority of management and higher level employees have gained their positions based on loyalty rather than qualifications. There are several senior level employees who have been with the company for over 15 years. In my opinion, the company is transferring from this "loyalty perspective" and is starting to  fill these roles with qualified individuals; however, this is still a theme here.

I have been working here a total of three years, and I am still satisfied and happy with my decision. I love it here and I think the culture is shifting in the right direction. I do believe that management can be lacking sometimes though.

As a long term employee, I can honestly say that I would not work anywhere else. Atlantic Casualty has spoiled me for all other companies. From the day I walked in the doors, I have felt valued and have been provided everything I needed to develop my skills and grow in my career as an IT professional. Turnover across the company is very low for any employee who takes the time to get to know people and participate in the culture. The company offers so many great benefits and opportunities for promotion to individuals who are willing to apply themselves and work hard. A balance between home and work life is actually encouraged despite some of the reviews that say otherwise. The company goes above and beyond to provide an environment where anyone can thrive if they have any initiative at all. It is truly a second family and one that I am proud to call my second home. Bring a great attitude and the aptitude to grow and you will not regret picking Atlantic Casualty. I don't drink the cool-aid. I just genuinely love this place!

There's a strong sense of teamwork, with everyone willing to lend a hand and support one another. One of the standout qualities of ACIC is that you're not treated like just another employee number—relationships here are genuine, warm, and personal. What I enjoy most about the job is the opportunity to troubleshoot and solve problems. It’s incredibly rewarding, especially knowing that your teammates and managers are approachable and maintain a true open-door policy for any questions or concerns. What also sets ACIC apart is the company's commitment to investing time and resources into their employees' growth and success. It's this combination of supportive culture, strong relationships, professional  development and exceptional benefits that makes ACIC an outstanding place to work.


I joined this company because of an employee referral.  The employee raved about how the company was growing and open to ideas that would make it better.  The employee promised that the culture was none like they'd ever experienced.  Supportive, fun, innovative and a place where Family Is First!  They were right. 
Over the past few years, I've witnessed exponential growth.  Yes we felt the growing pains, especially in claims, while we were becoming the "go to" in the E & S market.  In the midst of a pandemic, we were the answer to many insureds that had no where to go.  Sometimes, we had to deliver bad news--that's always hard. But, I know we operate with honesty, trust and integrity.  No, we're not perfect but we are growing--together. Getting better everyday.  This is a great place to work!   No B.S.... (bogus stuff) 

I have been working at ACIC for a little over 2 years now. Within a year of working for this company, I was promoted to a supervisor position. I feel that my managers have always valued and appreciated my opinions for work projects/system advancements. I continue to feel heard and respected every day that I work for this amazing company. As someone who has a young child, I have never been made to feel like I have to choose between my child/family and work. Mom's who work full time find it difficult to navigate work life harmony, ACIC makes it less of a stressor by truly encouraging you to put your family first. Without a doubt, Atlantic Casualty Insurance Company is where I plan to retire from many years from now.  

As an employee, the company culture is particularly remarkable. Even working remotely, it's clear that ACIC is dedicated to creating a workplace that is warm and welcoming. I've never been concerned about asking for help or sharing my opinion, and the benefits offered are excellent, from pay to the company field days and everything in between.

As a software developer, the work is engaging, but not overwhelming. ACIC has multiple codebases (some newer than others) but there are enough developers that no project feels understaffed. There are plenty of learning opportunities given the variety of technologies used and lunch-and-learn style sessions every few weeks or so. One caveat is that branching and deployments can get messy, but the team is making an effort to improve that. It'll be interesting to see where that is in a year or two.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Arrive between 7 and 8. Work on mandatory daily tasks, eat breakfast and commence work on projects or tickets, and put out any fires along the way. Break with lunch, meetings, or discussions about side projects. Leave anytime between 4 and 5 depending on arrival.
