Maintaining a basic level complacency for the work, nerves of steel for the passive aggressive coworkers, supervisors micro management of mundane tasks and arriving on time, meal break on time and leaving on time may or may not get you rental assistance utility assistance and a good health benefits package, PTO time and enrolled in what some call a troubled State pension if you live to retire. Leave enthusiasm, pride and dignity at the time clock. Dont expect merit badge, holiday party(or gift) or your birthday off. No bells No whistles just a dead end to a really bumpy ride otherwise its great for a high school student living at hone with parents.

Working with Atlantic county has been...different. The pay is between 10,000-17,000 LESS then any other county doing the exact same job. The county has all the money in the world yet uses it on projects that don't improve our day to day work shifts. To get anything done by management you have to go over them which is unfair and uncomfortable. The job itself, is tedious and the same every day. You get the opportunity to help those in need which is rewarding, but not rewarding enough for the lousy disrespectful salary we have here. If you are looking for a foot in the door for some professional experience, sure. If you are looking for a career path with room for advancement.. go literally anywhere else. 

Working for public works is an easy job but, the day to day operations are poorly organized and most equipment is old. As with public employment, the benefit package is excellent but you will be eligible for public assistance due to the minimum wage pay. Starting salary is 27,500 per year and will increase to 32,000 in about 6-7 years. The plus side, with weekends and holidays off, you can get a second job to provide for your family. 
Management is more concerned with a piece of cloth covering your face rather than safety for roadside workers. The bargaining unit is inclusive of public safety and white collar workers represented by Teamsters 331, the same union who negotiated your low pay. 

Pay is way to low to live off of. Pay not worth the work . Only good thing is the benefits , but after that you’ll have no pay check and need second income to survive. They say they help train you to get the CDL required to keep the job, that is a lie .only training is the book they give you to study. No hands on. Joke. Equipment is out dated and junk. Stay away, a lot better jobs out there.

Atlantic County Commissioners are clueless. The department of public works pays minimum wage for employees with class A and B commercial drivers licenses. Their equipment is old and there are zero concerns for safety of roadside workers. The job offers a pension and quality health insurance but you will need secondary employment to survive. 

No raises. No advancement. No concern for employees. Employees qualify for the benefits they manage. I don’t know what more you want me to say. The job is not what it seems. The union president does not work for us, she works with the county. She takes off medically every year and this has forced us to work with no contracts 

Great benefits ,holidays & weekends off..always room for advancements ,for the most part the people in the Public Works dept. gets along well and come together for any big projects.

they reason why I op to say that above is because now after bringing up the topic of the cost of living and law I don't like how one speaker of the house can have affects on people moods and how you need to save other by paying them to get them away from those people because being homeless and need to sleep and wash up don't mix well.

This job allowed me the opportunity to understand how the understand how the County operates daily.

I don’t want to be a person who labels a job in a negative way . On my personal feelings .i have quirked for Atlantic county government for six years and I feel great about the relationship I have with my passengers , but I don’t like some of the gossip and statements made by supervisors .
