Typical day at work on 1 Pines is stressful for the most part. There is no morale between staff on the unit. Every single person on that unit is overworked and does not get the recognition they deserve for the jobs that they do. The unit is painfully understaffed majority of the time. The nurses workload is well over what the state mandated patient nurse ratio. The units overnight shift is overworked and again painfully understaffed. Patients end up with a lot of unsafe things in their rooms such as cigarettes, lighters, matches, and other various items that they should not have. The management on the unit is oblivious to the growing problem of lack of staffing and how it affects the safety on the unit. When problems are brought up to management they either ask the staff what they should do about the situation or completely ignore the situation all together. Management on that unit is god awful. Working with majority of the people on that unit was pleasant the nurses are extremely knowledgeable along with the doctors on the unit. You learn a lot from them if you ask questions. The hardest part of the job is the constant lack of morale, lack of staffing, being over worked, and not being appreciated on the unit. The most enjoyable part of the job was honestly interacting with the patients and helping them. If you don't mind being overworked, underappreciated, and understaffed all the time then this is the job for you. Otherwise, I would look into other aspects of Atlanticare behavioral health. I have worked on many units in the hospital and this is by far the worst one to work on mainly because of management. Management does not leave their offices to help and if they do try to help they do not even know where to begin. How do you have people running a unit that they do not know how to work? I have noticed on other units in the hospital that the managers would actually come out on the floor to help if staffing was short on their unit. That does not apply to 1 pines management comes out to see what is going on and then returns to their offices. They do not ask staff if they need help with anything or if there is anything they can do to help. Probably one of the most unhelpful and useless management teams I have seen at Atlanticare. They always talk to staff about the safety on the unit but constantly put staff's safety at risk by having low staffing on the unit. The turnover rate in staffing on that unit blows your mind they go through staff really fast and it seems as if no one really looks into why the staffing on that unit is like a revolving door. They might chalk it up to it being a psychiatric unit and that it is a hard job. Which is not true there have been a lot of good nurses and support staff that have been fired for trumped up reasons. If management does not like you on that unit it is pretty much a done deal. They will find the most ridiculous reason to fire you. They are extremely vindictive. (Please note that I am speaking only about the clinical manager of the unit and manager below them. I have not met the manager above the clinical unit manager.)

During a typical day, I have a designated route of deliveries to complete. In addition to deliveries, I have paperwork to complete at several locations, I may need to assist people and perform other duties. I travel and deliver at several locations in Atlantic and Ocean Counties. However, I may be called to go to one or two of the other counties we service. 

I was quite experienced before employment at AtlantiCare, however, I have learned how hospitals work, including medical terminology and medical systems. I have learned how interconnected the hospital system is. And I have developed my Customer Service Skills with both the public as well as internal customers (fellow employees0.

I have a long previous history of being a manager past employment, however, I have been given the opportunity to be the trainer for new employees in my department.

The hardest part of my particular job is completing all my rounds and deliveries in eight hours. My benefits include a paid lunch, however, myself and my colleagues in this position cannot take a lunch at all and complete our duties during the work day. We eat in our cars if at all. even without taking a lunch, it is challenging to complete the rounds and duties properly in the 8 hours and over time is not permitted. It is a challenge with which I have been successful.

The most enjoyable part of the job is by far the people. i am blessed to travel to several buildings and locations during the day where I am greeted by AtlantiCare's friendly and kind staff. I have a very congenial relationship with many of the staff at these locations. As with most things in life, people are what is important. 

I have felt recognized for my service (including the company-wide Customer Service Award). My suggestions have been listened to and some implemented. I have felt like a valuable employee. I wold not be leaving the organization if it were not for the very long distance from my home. It is the long commute that ha me seeking another employer. I have always been a loyal employee to AtlantiCare and to all my previous employees.

I loved my job and appreciated the company for 27 years  until my last position. The company cared about their employees and we showed our appreciation by never voting in a union. When I was employed with the company I had a very caring CEO and management for the most part. Every company has that one person in management however that feels they need to be harsh to prove themselves and make their supervisors shake in their shoes.  The workers under this particular management gives no clue of the work environment because they know it will go on deaf ears.  I used to have high praise for this employer. However, I can't do that now.  Everyone has their own experience with an employer. There may be some employees who still think highly of this employer. People need to draw their own conclusion about an employer based on their own experience, not the experience of someone else because everyone has their own opinion of what is acceptable to them from an employer and employee interaction.  Communication, however, is lacking in this company at many levels of the employee/management level. 

My suggestions to my supervisor in my new position went on deaf ears until brought up in a meeting with the manager by me. Low and behold, my suggestion is being implemented almost 2 years later. I guess the supervisor wanted to keep job security. I was told several times I overstepped my boundaries when all I was trying to do was to improve the process.  Don't you find it unfair that you need to give an employer 2 weeks notice of leaving employment and they can tell you that you are fired and have you escorted from the premises by security immediately?  That didn't happen to me, however it just popped in my head how unfair some rules can be.

I started as a PCA to gain experience in the healthcare field. If you plan on furthering your career and are only there as a tech to get experience then it’s a great job, you definitely get that direct patient care. If you are planing to be a tech for years to come, I would strongly recommend not doing it. They are overworked. They will pull techs everywhere to make sure the floors are covered but in the end they are leaving like one tech on a floor (smaller units) or a mod (bigger units) and long story short your caring for up to 17 patients (sometimes more, sometimes less) by yourself. Granted if you need help with anything the nurses are there but you have to remember they are also typically busy too. For the amount of patient’s and all the tasks that a tech does, we do not receive enough credit or get paid enough. The amount of work actually being put in on a 12 hour shift is not worth the pay trust me. You could probably make more pumping gas at wawa. But if you’re looking for a job that doesn’t discipline, this is the job for you! Some techs do absolutely nothing, come in late, take long breaks, don’t know what they are doing and receive absolutely no consequences even though a supervisor could be told about it 10x a week. Nothing is really done about it. And they definitely don’t praise the techs that are working hard and good at the job. Like I said it’s a good starting job but being a tech for longer than 2-3 years is something you really have to have a lot of patience for and love doing. 

AtlantiCare has afforded me the opportunity to not only grow career wise within the organization but also continue my education.  I was able to work while attending nursing school and advance into my current position while raising a young child. I have some of the best co-workers I could ever ask for and enjoy being able to work in an environment where I have their support and also a transformational leadership style.  Our nursing leaders are approachable and known by name.  The hardest part of my job as of lately, has been working in the trauma environment and being able to leave the stress of trauma patients at work when I return home.

A typical day includes receiving report from the night shift staff if I am working as a staff nurse or receiving report from the previous charge nurse when I am team leader/charge nurse for my shift.  I consult often with the case manager and social worker to help with length of stay and discharges.  Assessing patients, evaluating their care and completing daily head-to-toe assessments are required duties.  I interact with family members to help facilitate the care of the patient once they are discharged. We are apart of a multi-disciplinary team and as a staff nurse or team leader, I am responsible to round with either the APN, PA, hospitalist or trauma physician on the patients.

Working as a Surgical Scheduler at AtlantiCare has been a mixed experience. While I appreciate having gained administrative skills and exposure to healthcare scheduling, the overall work environment leaves much to be desired. 

The pay is low compared to the workload, and the raises are minimal - often just a few cents, which doesn’t reflect the amount of work required for this role. Despite being part of a healthcare system, this role doesn’t offer the level of teamwork or support you’d expect. You’re often to fend for yourself, and micromanagement is a common issue. HR is extremely difficult to get in contact with, and communication overall is poor. 

I often find myself handling extremely difficult patients on my own, with little to no support. While my supervisor is a kind and understanding person, issues brought to their attention — whether involving challenging patients or problematic coworkers — are brushed under the rug. Even other coworkers have expressed that leadership needs to take a firmer stance. 

This position might work as a short-term opportunity, but it’s not ideal if you’re looking for consistent support, fair compensation, or a collaborative team environment. 

I have worked for AtlantiCare in various roles for a bit over 9 years. When I started, the organization was generally well run and leadership attempted to remain in touch with what their line staff members were experiencing each day. Over time, that has drastically changed. Leadership is either utterly out of touch or willfully ignoring the addressable challenges that front-line employees are facing. This makes it difficult to work there and maintain a sense of accomplishment. Additionally, as other reviews have mentioned, AtlantiCare often grossly overworks their employees for little pay.

I would like to finish with some positive notes. I have had numerous direct supervisors here that are truly wonderful and caring people. They see the challenges and do what they can within their limits to help fix them. My co-workers have always been fantastic and that does ease the strain a bit. Also, they do give a mid-year and end of the year bonus, which is pretty great! And the medical benefits are cheap and outstanding!

I want to start off by saying I have worked on various different floors and I have been here for many years so I know the system pretty well. As a PCA you are at the bottom of the chain and you are treated as such. You are basically doing the nurses job without the pay and they don’t even thank you for it. They are manipulative and act as though they are so busy but are just saying that in front of others to justify why they have you running around like crazy. Then, you never get any credit because they don’t want to seem as though they havent done any work when they haven’t and they have just been at the nurse station on there phones or in the break room making personal phone calls. Let’s also not talk about how they give you such a hard time when you call out. The nursing supervisors are so rude and act as if PCAs aren’t allowed to call out. Best part is when you’re pulled onto another floor when you are not a pool tech. Sometimes, more then once in a day. Also you do not get the salary difference that th techs on that floor do for working on those floors.

Atlaticare, as a whole is a great organization.  The magnet model is really emphasized.  However, management on this unit does not follow that model.  There are unsafe nurse to patient ratios and a management team who are concerned about the budget and not their staff.  Management will allow a severely understaffed unit to flounder, rather than step in and help.  Requests to management are either ignored or denied for "budget reasons" or "staffing issues" that never seem to improve.  Information sharing is not adequate and rules seem to change at random whims.  Management plays favorites and does not practice fair and ethical treatment of employees.  Upper management seems disinterested in the concerns of employees on unit, even after they are repeatedly made aware of problems.

I worked there for 6 months ugrading software on the PCs throughout the company. It was pretty easy work most of the time, but took a while because we didn't have the correct (software) tools to perform the job. We were using old OS images that required multiple updates to Windows and/or special software that could have been integrated quickly into the image, but wasn't so we had to spend extra time instaling it on every machine (1 to 100, per department) after it was imaged. Once we moved to the hospitals, nothing was done beforehand so we were going in blind, unlike the other departments that weren't used 24/7, which wasted huge amounts of time (I wasted 6 hours trying to install new machines in an area that wasn't possible to be upgraded at the current time, I only found that out the following day or so). Also information wasn't correlated correctly sometimes, which resulted in wasted time trying to figure out what goes where.
