As an LPN or RN you work 12-hour days and are on your feet for most of your shift - invest in a good pair of shoes. You are constantly working and like many of us, you probably won't have time for your 15 minute breaks.  We usually do have time for a 30 minute lunch break.  The facility is often short and you are regularly moved from your home unit to another one - from my experience it was at least weekly. There are a lot of contract staff at the facility, both nurses and aides.  They get paid more than regular staff,  do less work,  and regularly skip required task.  If there is blame to be passed around for something not done, it's the regular staff that is targeted by management.  The contracters are often rude and the aides are both rude and insubordinate.  They can act this way because they know the facility is too short-staffed to let them go (unless it's something like sleeping on the job).  Kudos to the the nursing Supervisors, they know how hard you work and are very often supportive when you require assistance.  Don't be afraid to aks them for help when needed.  They are angels. Another problem: There is a lack of laptops.  You often have to hunt around for a charged laptop, or a functioning cord for charging your laptop,  and working mouse.  There is a room/lounge area on one of the units where they keep laptops at charging stations.  These are for training and we are not supposed to take them.  Go ahead and grab one and return it after your shift (even the Supervisors will tell you to do this).  Some of the nurses have purchased their own small laptops and mouse to use at work. The pay is a little above average, depending.  Negotiate for a good rate if your serious about working here.  When I gave my notice, they offered to match the rate of my new employers, I turned them down.

I worked night shift at this facility and gained valuable experience prioritizing patient care. Working 3rd shift helped me strengthen my time management skills and taught me how to handle multiple responsibilities while ensuring patients were safe and comfortable. I especially appreciated the opportunity to learn from the staff nurses, who shared helpful knowledge and clinical skills. The relationships I built with my coworkers on night shift and the care I provided to my patients were the most rewarding parts of the job.

However, there were some challenges. Communication and leadership from upper management could be improved. At times, interactions with the Director of Nursing felt unapproachable and discouraging, particularly when asking questions or seeking clarification. A more supportive and respectful communication style would greatly improve staff morale and teamwork.

There were also operational concerns, especially on night shift. Linen shortages were frequent, and access to the laundry room was sometimes restricted, making it difficult to ensure patients had necessary supplies. Additionally, hot water was occasionally unavailable, which affected patient care and morning routines. Staffing coordination between shifts could also be improved, as late arrivals sometimes delayed end-of-shift responsibilities.

Overall, the experience helped me grow professionally, especially in patient care and prioritization skills. With stronger communication from leadership and improved resource management, the workplace environment could be much more positive for staff and residents alike.

It was a wonderful experience doing my clinical at Alexandria Hospital.  I learned a whole lot from everyone working there.  Some day I will be on the Labor and Delivery unit working with mother getting ready to deliver her baby.  It was such an experience being able to be right next to the bed of someone who is getting ready to give birth to a new baby.  The nurses and doctors taught me a whole lot about the labor and delivery unit.  Another day, I will be working just with patients who are sick and need to stay in the hospital for some time.  Everything I learned from nursing textbook was put to test here.  We had a chance to do vital signs, take medical histories and implement nursing strategy for the care of all patients.

one day i had a patient who placed a ordered but decided that was not what they ordered so i politely asked "what did you order sir" and the patient stated that he did not care so i politely asked again and the patient got upset so i called for a supervisor. i learned that everyone is not satisfied with others responsibilites and that there was nothing more i can do but inform a supervisor. my co-workers think i did the right thing because the patient was very rude. the hardest part of this job was making sure i fed the patients the right kind of food and the right amount. the best part was how sweet most of my patients were and how i got the most compliments on my job

Terrible! The Administration is unprofessional, everyone that do not have on hands patient care has the audacity to speak on the clinical side of Nursing. Everyone wants to be the Boss!

Terrible! Not a good place to work. Administration do not care about the staff needs, which would help us to be proficient in caregiving. A lot of gossip l!

Worked here as a travel nurse and I’d just like to say if you put your family here you either can’t afford anything better or you just don’t care. There are roaches and rats, barely any supplies. They are always short CNAs and the ones they do have are over worked and unappreciated. The medication carts are ridiculous. The residents leave to do ungodly things and come back high and no one bats an eye. If any employee says this is nice facility they are delusional. They have to be paying off someone to pass state inspection because this place is awful!

Do my orders and dealing with my staff and trying to finish paperwork on time and making sure the laundry is getting done and there’s enough for the residence etc.

A typical day at work involves a friendly work environment where we help each other in patient care and activities for the children. Managers listen to what we have to say and do care coordination daily. Hardest part of the job is being short staffed. The most enjoyable part is seeing the kids grow, learn and be happy despite their circumstances and limitations.

A typical day at work was 9-5, off every weekend, good money and benefits.  I learned how to help others and provide excellent customer service. Management team was great, so was my co-workers. I get along with everyone. The job was not hard to me, cause this is what i love to do. I enjoyed this job to the fullest.

Was good fun got along with everyone and the people are very friendly.I loved doing my job that was my most enjoyable part of job,I could make this a future place to retire if only they had more hors and a little more pay.I enjoyed my time there but when you have no other choice bt to look for better pay.
