Management is only interested in patient satisfaction ratings and could care less about the employees.  Employees are overworked, understaffed, working thru lunches, etc.  Environmental services is so understaffed they don't even have time to clean bathrooms.

It's a shame that the Director of Radiology and the CEO of this hospital are outright ruining this place.  Small town hospital with big boy politics.  They are not interested in improving the work environment or in keeping employees happy.  Physicians are allowed to yell at, and demean the workers.  Same employees keep getting written up & getting warnings without any action, yet other employees are treated the same.  You are just told to smile and "wow" the patients so they give the hospital a good review.  Bad review means no raise...they hold that very seriously over your head.  It doesn't matter about the quality of your work, how well you get along with co-workers, or how much you do above and beyond your normal duties - none of that matters, ONLY the patient satisfaction reviews matter to them.

If they were that interested in us "wowing" our patients they would do more to keep us happy and not overlook problems and would solve them!  Total waste of my professional time to work here.  I've never worked at a place that cared so little for their employees.  

Director of Radiology rings the bell for Salvation Army and looks as if he is "volunteering", but he is getting paid to do it.... not my idea of volunteer work.  Director of Radiology actually tells his personal friends to go to RMH to seek orthopedic services.  Very unprofessional.  If we were to do that, we would be fired on the spot!  He literally fell into the position and isn't qualified to do the job, but really, what does it take to sit at a desk and go to meetings?!  He's a smart alec with a big attitude.  Don't cross him or he will make you miserable.

I accepted a position with this company and had high hopes, but honestly, it was a huge disappointment. All they seem to care about is numbers and herding patients in like cattle. I believe the physicians work on a commission providing low quality care to the masses. The work load varies depending on your provider’s status. If you are lucky enough to work for an NP you have 1/2 the work load. The provider I worked for was the busiest one in the practice and saw a patient every 20 minutes. A few of my duties entailed rooming the patients, performing PT’s, A1C’s, injections, setting up for procedures, answering calls that could have been managed at the front desk, referrals, prior authorizations , managing RX’s, and returning calls. These duties were the bulk amongst others. You had to manage your “bucket” which was a black hole of typically 250+ items on any given day. They frown upon overtime and even penalize you for it. This was up there with the worst of the worst entities I’ve ever worked for in over 20+ years of employment. Beware!! The repetitive job postings for the same positions should have been a sign. 

My typical day at work starts from opening the office and answering phone calls to clearing the fax machine. Addressing any urgent needs before the "day starts". I then assist patients at check in by verifying their name dob address phone number and insurance information, collect their copay or any paid on accounts if needed and let the nursing staff know the patient is ready for them. I also check the patient out after they have met with the provider and set up additional appointments if needed along with any needed blood work to be done. At the end of the day I enter and total all charges and collect all the money from the day, then enter all necessary information on to the bank deposits and excel spreadsheets. 

I truly enjoy my co-workers in every way, we have all become a family. I not only enjoy my co-workers but I enjoy my patients as well.

The hardest part of my day is having to relay bad medical information to patients.

The schedules are far from flexible. You get what you get and if you have a second job, you better hope the other employer will adjust their schedule because Augusta will not.  Like many healthcare jobs if you have a fever you aren't to come to work however; that is an occurence. You are allowed three write ups before you're fired. Doctor's note, car accident or family emergency none of that matters it is a write up. Did I mention it takes a year from the day missed for it to go away? They cater to long time employees and they get by with more, the rules depend on who you are. Many long time employees are quiting, CNA's/Techs if you enjoy caring for patients this isn't for you. You are to busy getting as many patients as they can take, and doing vitals to be able to actually CARE for anyone. Never thought I'd say it but it's worse than any Nursing Home.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Being able to use your badge at the cafe, gift shop, pharmacy etc. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Forever understaffed. Toxic, rude management and co workers, very much like a clique and if you don’t fit it, good luck, they will push you out. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Chronically understaffed! Insane amount of work expected for one person. No one cares if you are being set up for failure with the work load as long as it’s assigned to someone it’s no longer their problem. Better get it done! 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Running around non-stop. Being treated like garbage by your own team, as well as the other departments specifically nursing and the techs.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The residents and staff are wonderful to be with. They become like family.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Staff turnover can be stressful.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Everyone works well together to achieve what is needed by the residents.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Checking lunch and dinner menu and taking out what is needed to prepare for service. Ensuring the different types of menus are done. Such as minced and moist, puree food, low sodium diets and such. Always following serve safe rules for food preparation. Serving meals, cleaning up kitchen when meals are complete and thanking the servers for their help.

I think in general Augusta is a great place to work. The position I was hired for is a great position for someone who is younger and looking to grow in the health care industry. Tuition reimbursement for health care related training and definitely the most established biggest non profit employer for the area (which means 403B options). My only reason for leaving was more money and no open positions in Management after completing an MBA while performing this job.

A typical day at work changes depending on the job assignment for the day and how critical the procedures are. I help provide all  aspects of the peri-operative care to the patient while in the operating room, providing safety and care to achieve the optimal outcome for every patient. Co-workers for the most part are great to work with and act as team members. The hardest part of the job is that it is high stress requiring critical thinking and decision making many times at a split second notice. The most enjoyable part of the job is knowing the patient got the best care possible and that they have a great outcome. Assisting with surgery brings me great pleasure.

Very busy. Always get floated to other units when your own unit is short. There are no patient ratios for CNAs. RNs typical ratio is 1:6. Not everyone is a team player and no one seems to care. Patients and visitors can get violent and staff aren’t cared about when it comes to our safety. Always have to take some class or some education on self defense and it’s a waste of time every year. The absence policy is not fair at all. It takes a whole year for 1 absence to fall off your record whether you have a doctor excuse or not. Always expected to do more than one person is capable of doing. Benefits aren’t the best  and they are expensive.

I have worked as an allied health technologist at Augusta for 2 years.  I am treated with respect by management and physicians.  My fellow staff are thoughtful, caring, intelligent, insightful and professionals at what they do:  providing excellent, competent and often complicated medical care to our patients.  Augusta Health is a great place to work and a great place to be seen as a patient.  

I have worked at other medical facilities and teaching hospitals over the past 25 years.  With those experiences in mind I rate Augusta Health as one of the best places I've ever worked at.
