Overall it's a decent place to work. The biggest reason these days for me personally to work here is the cheap insurance. As a part time employee, I pay roughly $80/mo for my policy (which also includes my son) while my wife with a very similar plan (works somewhere different but her company use Aultman's insurance) pays almost double that for just herself. To be honest, I was incredibly excited when I got an interview here and eventually hired. That, however, as changed. At least in my department, I've seen unnecessary management changes (unnecessary managers are starting to outnumber the actual department staff) and strict grips on the budget with hopes of getting a nice bonus at the end of the year if they still below budget.  Meanwhile, we work with a thin, skeleton crew on a daily basis with broken equipment. 

Overall, it depends where an individual places their emphasis and value. If you're in college or planning on attending, it can be a great part time college job especially with their tuition reimbursement program. The insurance is (from what I've heard from numerous other friends/family) the best around and the cheapest for employees and their families. There are numerous employee discounts available as well...Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Cedar Point tickets just to name a few. However, if you're looking to just use the old as time method and "get your foot in the door, work hard, and move up", this probably isn't the best opportunity for that without years of essential networking with numerous directors, VPs, etc. "It's not about how hard you work, it's about who you know."

Many of the managers are out of touch with floor nursing and do not fully understand the amount of time it takes to provide safe and competent care. Some managers do not have a grasp on what the people they are in charge of do at all. Even with the excessive amount of executives at the top, they still do not seem to grasp the turmoil that is happening on the floors. These deficiencies cause stress on the system and uncontrolled inefficiencies. This also creates an unsafe work environment where nurses are worried that they are not providing the care their patients deserve. Also, there is concern about maintaining the integrity of your nursing licence that you worked so hard to obtain. The norm had been proactive to prevent safety concerns but has become lax and reactive in recent years. Excessive, redundant charting leaves little time to care for patients. The staff to patient ratios appear to be based on a perfect shift where nothing at all goes wrong, except you are working in a hospital - something is going to go wrong. That is why people are in the hospital, because something medical is wrong and they are very sick. Maybe there should be a little less focus on the budget and a little more concern about having additional time to spend with each individual patient. 

There are some managers that do jump in to help staff in times of need and are genuinely concerned with the safety and well being of patients and staff. Many of the floor nurses are competent and willing to help precept and guide newer nurses. There are also many highly competent ancillary staff who help to make the patients feel welcome and the work environment better. 

The pay is average for the area. Insurance premiums continue to rise along with the deductibles, but that seems to be everywhere. There is some matching of 401k, but not as much as in the past.

May be called off in 4 hour increments without compensation. Example: Regular shift is 7AM to 7 PM. At 6 AM You could get a call saying "We don't need you at 7 AM. Call back in at 10:30." You call back at 10:30 and if the don't need you, you are still waiting to see about 3-7PM.  If you do need to go in it's at straight time, even if you're driving there for 4 hours.  You either accept no pay for your unplanned time off or use PTO to get paid.

Another point of contention for people with less than 10 years, you may not be able to schedule any decent time off. Many workers have been there a long time and schedule first. If you have kids and want time off with them in the summer, well.... You can find others to cover for you, but then you are not allowed to use PTO. 

After a year or two, a lot of people end up cashing out PTO.  You can roll some over. 

Please, stop calling people off in 4 hour increments. People are unable to plan time with family when they use PTO unexpectedly.  Allow for scheduling of PTO. Staff appropriately so employees can take vacation time. 

If employees are unable to plan vacation with their families they will burn out and be unhappy with their jobs. Then they will look for other jobs and administration will need to hire and train new staff. That is very expensive. Keeping staff happy and healthy will help retain them and save money in the long run.

A typical day at work starts with greeting many of the friends that I have made over the years. Then to locker, report, and the busiest part of the day starts with medication pass & assessment of patients.On to charting &/or communicating with charge nurse or physician important information regarding patients. Safety rounds, another medication pass. Perhaps an admission or a discharge of a patient. Lunch. Reassessment of patients, perhaps medications, and then shift report. Throughout the day there are many extra patient needs to be met. Communications with many departments throughout the hospital. What have I learned? To attempt multitasking, deciding which is more important to do first without slighting another. No perfect panacea to this! Management is great, but caught in the middle many times. I cannot imagine their frustration except for when I coached, being caught in the middle brings on an uncomfortable feeling that I wish not to pass on to my managers. Co-workers? On any given day, some good, some bad, some steady & great. The hardest part of my job? Courageously facing that impossible patient/family with a smile & going on dealing with the impossible with a smile until they go out the door. Treating them the same as I would treat my mother, God rest her soul. The most enjoyable part of my job? When I get a smile & a "Well done." from one of my co-workers or boss after dealing with a tough situation, or a genuine thank you from a patient.

Aultman Woodlawn is a great place to work, it needs to be more oraganized they have a high turnover rate with staffing. They are usually short staffed, if you pick up to earn extra cash. You pick up to still work short and to work on the other 2 floors that are sister units. The managers spend majority of the day in the office working on staffing and at the end of the day staffing is still short. They need to work on staffing as in hire people who will stay. If they had better structure they would keep more staff but they treat the staff like nothing at times. The old employees who been there for years. Don’t get recognition they praise the new ones that come in. If a situation comes about, they will take the side of the patients family instead of listening to staff, some patients are confused and they still will go off what the patient says and not the staff. Call lights go off forever,  most nurses sit at the desk and don’t answer lights if can be 2 aides for 30 patients and they have 4-5 nurses and they expect the aides to do it all and patient care. They need to have everyone trained in every department to answer lights and not walk by them. And provide patient care. If they have teamwork it would run so much better. I feel bad for the patients when it’s short staffed they get less care from the sides and rushed. I wouldn’t recommend sending my loved one here

For awhile, especially after covid, I felt very little job satisfaction and even questioned my choice of career. Then, I became apart of the Aultman Woodlawn family and realized it wasn’t my career choice but previous workplace environment and culture that had been the problem. Moreover, working for Aultman has rejuvenated the love I have for my career.  I feel genuinely appreciated and supported by my managers and team on a daily basis.  Also, it has been so refreshing to be surrounded by positive coworkers who also love their jobs and genuinely care about patient outcomes. 
The post-acute setting can be hectic but someone is always more than willing to help you when you need it. I do wish we had more time for socializing and breaks between patients, however, this is something I’ve experienced everywhere due to post-covid staffing challenges. 
Regarding compensation, I get the vibe that Aultman is actively trying to be more competitive. Likewise, I initially took a small pay cut to work here, however,  raises have been consistent and substantial thus far and  now I make more than I ever have. And I’ve heard similar compensation experiences from fellow friends and colleagues.
Ultimately, I feel the reason people choose to work at Aultman for years and even decades is because it’s a positive and supportive environment that cares about the people they serve and the care they provide. 

Aultman-Canton Urology. I would never recommend anyone to work at that practice. All the clinical girls that work there talk about each other, and the office manager, they don’t make you feel welcomed. You get partial training then get told by another nurse your doing it wrong. There is so much gossip through the office it’s sickening and most of the time they’re talking about the new staff or each other. They have a tally of how many people that have been hired in and quit and it’s up to 75-80 people. The office manager is passive aggressive sends emails or messages about petty stuff to everyone instead of directly talking to the individual it pertains to. She will let one person get away with not doing there job while another gets yelled at while they are busting butt to do their job. The whole place is a mess and needs new management and Aultman is too stupid to see it. I would never work in that department again. If anyone would look up how many people that have been hired in and quit they would see a pattern or interview past employees on why they left they would see why!!! They purposely try and make people quit. If your not part of I have a bad marriage or I cheated on my spouse clan you won’t fit in. The clinical staff is the worse the clerical staff is fine. Just don’t get too close to anyone they will turn on you in a heartbeat. 

I thought this would be my dream job. I learned quickly that would not be the case. Lack of communication was the first problem I encountered. I never seen or talked to my manager until I was told I was not doing my job correctly.
I was trained for a job at several different locations that did not give all the information I needed to do my job completely.  After starting my job, I knew what I was doing  but struggled with details.  
My issue was with the staff. They were unapproachable and would not speak to me! I could not get any information regarding my job or patients. If I did speak to them I got an attitude to the point I did not speak to them at all.  It was like walking on eggshells! 
It was an awful experience! I have never worked at a job with such hostility! I new from the first day this job would not work! You can not work with other people who are not supportive, professional, friendly and respectful ! What a horrible experience. 
Management and HR does not acknowledge issues with a hostile work environment or adrress such issues. They do not realize the impact it has on the employee who is working under such horrific working conditions.

Aultman Hospital as a whole, was a nice place to work. The coworkers were friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was pleasant. The pay was decent and the benefits were not half bad. But the management was were it fell apart. The higher up the ladder you went, you stopped being viewed as a person and more as a tool to just be used in the best man we that they saw fit. They didn't understand our hardships or that they were stripping us of our moral. People kept quieting in my department, and they just kept hiring in young and inexperienced kids to make up the slack, who were quickly unmotivated to work due to the massive work load we had to take on. More work given to us on a daily basis, yet no pay compensation for the extra work. Untill Aultmans management cleans up their act, I'd suggest avoiding for now. Unless you don't mind lots of work with little pay to show for your efforts. Let alone the management in your face if unreasonable numbers are not being met.

I would say that it was a good place to start at,but it is disorganized and not the safest (at least the unit i work on). I understand places needs a budget but when it gets in the way of patient safety, I disagree with it. Aultman continuously short staffs floors because they don't want to pay for it. It is difficult to find necessary supplies that every room should have- suction canisters ready on the wall, oxygen meters or Christmas tree adapters, and more. In emergency situations these things need to be readily available, and they aren't always available on the floor I work on. Aultman also doesn't do much for their employees- lack of recognition and appreciation.  There is also no teamwork on the floor I work on as well.Overall, the floor is busy because it is a step-down neurosurgery floor, but they also get medical patients as well, such as DKA or AKI patients, which I do like. It is a great floor to learn stuff on, medical and surgical. The most enjoyable part of my job is encountering patients that actually appreciate your work and what you do for them.
