A typical day at work is providing care of patients/clients to meet their needs.  The needs of each patient varies throughout the day.  Meeting a patient's need can include, but not limited to medical needs. Patient’s physical, emotional, and sense of trust all play a vital role in care.  Through assessment and care of a patient must include and meet all the needs.   

Currently my role involves triage in a busy ambulatory clinic, completion in Medicare wellness visits in conjunction with the provider.  Providing education on a variety of topics, assisting in coordination of referral to specialist, immunization administration, collecting vital signs, and assisting providers  with various tasks are all part of a typical day.

I truly enjoy the team approach our clinic displays from the front desk worker to the provider.  All staff members work very hard to meet the needs of every patient that enters our clinic.   Having a teamwork approach is truly a blessing.  

I would have to say the hardest part of my job is seeing the vulnerability of our patients.  I believe that we sometimes see them at their best and their worst.   The reward is showing them how much we care and want the best for them.  I find it rewarding when a patient comes back and simply says “thank you”.  I honestly want each patient to know they matter to me even when they do not feel like they do to anyone else.  That is the rewarding part of the job. 

MA's and business leaders work our of scope.  When the workload is high, more work is given to you.  The goal is to save money by cutting corners if needed.  Did not feel like a safe environment.   Management was unprofessional and not supportive.  Newly hired direct supervisor was not an RN and was in charge of RN's and LPNs did not understand that delegating tasks relating to patient care is not a safe practice.  Management were far removed from the clinic situation and didn't trust staff when they stated that the workload was too high.  Direct supervisor did not observe staff to see how busy it was.  Direct supervisor also played favorites with staff, providing leadership roles to clinical staff who didn't work in the clinic that the roles were provided simply because the supervisor didn't like the clinical staff member.  

I enjoyed working with the providers, clinical staff and clerical staff.  For the most part aside from management, it is a great place to work. 

Poor management puts employees into difficult situations that effect the care of the patients. Poor management places blame on employees, employees leave, openings need to be filled quickly. Employees forced to train new, inexperienced hires without backup staff to complete daily work safely. Current employees forced to bare the burden of training while trying to maintain efficient and correct work flow. This does not work well.
Management takes no responsibility for their lack of planning. Current employees go home stressed and dissatisfied with work conditions.
Violence towards PSRs increases with dissatisfied patients. Especially since they have removed all Billing Specialists from their locations. Patients angry with corporate billing come to local location to vent their anger.

Rooming patient patient and assisting with procedures is typical of a medical assistant.  EMR can be overwhelming with patient load especially if there is no additional help in the department or designated time to complete the tasks. 
I have learned to be more organized and self reliant. 
Management is extremely poor and varies per Department.  A monthly meeting would address the same issues without any projected change.  Complaints to management about patient care, adherence to scopes of practices and toxic work environments would be addressed with minimal consequence.

The most enjoyable part of the job is patient care.  It is pleasure to see someone that is sick get better because of the knowledge that they were given.  It is joy being able to encounter all people from different backgrounds and cultures.  

A typical day at this psychiatric unit included assisting patients with activities of daily living; take and document vitals; maintain safe and secure milieu; crisis intervention as needed; monitor and document patient's physical, behavioral, and cognitive status; help formulate treatment plans.
I learned that a house divided against itself cannot stand.
My co-workers complained and griped about any and everything about their jobs, and therefore I stayed by myself as often as possible.
Management did not interact with staff very often.
The hardest part of this job was having to hear the excessive complaining of staff about the job.
The most enjoyable part of this job was that I was a floating staff, so that I had a better chance of being assigned to other units where the staff were more professional and enjoyed their jobs like I did.

The good:
Co-workers 
Direct supervisor or managers were supportive and approachable
Flexible scheduling if you are in school
CNA training class, learned a lot and the instructors were good (2015)
House supervisors kept the hospital running

Not so good:
Pay (may have improved since COVID)
Unsafe assignments for CNA's and RN's: higher ups didn't seem to care if it was safe or not
Administration, made decisions that negatively affected patient care and not supportive of the floor managers and supervisors.

Burnt myself out and had to leave for my own mental and physical health. Couldn't give the quality care I would want for my loved ones to the patients I helped care for. Difficult to do when you are the only CNA on the floor with 20+ patients with various acute issues. I hope things have improved for the people that are still there.




General loss of values with merger after merger. It’s all about the bottom line, and patients suffer. Upper management used to rear their heads on occasion, but no longer have time. Many haven’t set foot in the clinics in years. Or if present, don’t interact with staff.  
Poor local management. Constantly talking about employees to other employees. Nothing that is need-to-know. Or uplifting. Often derogatory in tone. 
Poor morale. Constant turnover. 
Safety concerns unaddressed. 
Management is supposedly supportive of staff education and advancement, but lacks flexibility with scheduling, which has resulted in many nurses leaving because there’s no give with their FTE. Better to be rigid in enforcing rules and go short staffed than allowing any flexibility?? 

What is the best part of working at the company?
The training that was provided without cost to me to get my coding certification and then a better rate of pay.  The focus on the patients wellness.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Deadlines for entering charges at end of month, end of quarters and year end.  Overtime was mandatory.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
As with most corporations they look to make a profit and they do.  Profits were very important.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Sign into computer and EMRs.  Read email and then work whatever work que you are assigned.  Much of the time was reviewing charges and reading documents to make sure the diagnosing and coding were correct.

The sleep disorders department at Aurora Summit is a place where you definitely DO NOT want to work!  They represent the absolute worst in health care these days.  Pt care is at the bottom of the list of their concerns.  Money tops the list of priorities. Negative criticism is part of the everyday routine, meted out by a management that has no understanding of sleep disorders or the duties of a sleep tech.  This department  not necessarily reflective of other departments at Aurora.  But this is one place you want to steer clear of if you have any integrity or desire to help patients improve their quality of life!

Provided support for 3 departments (Nursing Administration, Staff Development, and Social & Rehabilitative Services)
Responsible for answering multi-phone line system, operating office equipment, and providing inventory management.
I learned how to  work in the professional setting with doctors and nurses along  with social workers preparing patients charts. Worked well with all my co-workers. the hardest part of the job was taking minutes when it was time for team meetings.
The most enjoyable part of the job was when the patients were getting better in their health.
