I worked at the Bethany location as a member of the kitchen. I came to Avamere with a friend as it offered more hours than my previous job. The job in itself is fairly easy, you're just a waiter but you don't have to worry about checks, seating people, or having to memorize a huge menu. It's not for me personally but it's bearable. There's a couple residents who can be very rude and will even insult you at times (Management doesn't do anything about this but it may not be possible for them to really do anything) but for the most part the residents are very nice. One even gave me a hat they sewed. A few of my co-workers are also very kind and were very helpful when I started working. Unfortunately many of them are not though. You won't really be getting breaks here either, and one employee even chastised us for taking them saying "We'd get out so much quicker if you didn't take breaks". The management here is what makes this job horrendous though, my friend got employee of the month at a meeting and our manager stood up and gave a very insulting speech before handing it to her. If you want to request time off you have to do it nearly a month and a half in advance. Sometimes people will be scheduled for 6 days in a row and you won't get overtime because of how the manager schedules. The worst part by far though is the manager not listening when you put in new availability. I told my manager in early August my availability would be changing and it took until almost October to get it fixed after he ignored my first 2 availabilities. Our union rep has been a hero and is extremely helpful to us when we're struggling with management though. Whatever she's getting paid it isn't enough. All in all I give avamere at bethany a 1/5. Only work here if you desperately need money and then keep applying other places

Was straight forward about my need for training and being green in my hope for a position that would reach me more. I even applied for the senior accountant position but the manager who hired me offered me a staff accountant position and stated they would give me training and I might be able to shift into the other position. I was just thrilled to be somewhere that I could learn more. 

My manager left about a month and 7 days after I started, the training I was given was half hour sessions with each of the other staff accountants on one piece of entry or another. Procedure with no guidance as to the understanding of procedures. I have ADHD, and made that clear in my interviews. The procedure was fine, but stepping outside of those procedures or understanding why they did them the way they did wasn’t offered. 

I eventually got a new manager and we started some trainings, however it was expected of me to come to them with what I didn’t know. I was put on a PIP as we were relegated to work from home with COVID, and the follow up to emails were sporadic at best, and very often counterproductive. I just felt like they never had time for me as promised. 

After 45 days on PIP it was extended for another 30, after that 30 and an additional 60 more went by, with NO job security and a lot of stress on my part, I was terminated. I was terminated two months shy of my one year anniversary and was told that I wouldn’t be paid my 69+ hours PTO because it’s not considered earned until my 1 year mark.   That wasn’t how I understood the handbook on PTO. 

I’m disappointed to say the least. Avamere dashed my hopes and left me short about $2000 on well earned time off. Disgusting. 

I worked at Avamere for just about two years as my first nursing job, just before and during the initial wave of the pandemic. It was honestly a roller coaster. The building was already in the throes of massive changes when I was hired, with a new DNS and some big overhauls to charting. The pandemic made things astronomically harder. It broke my mental health as my first nursing job honestly. Far too much work with not enough staff and a very inefficient charting load. 

HOWEVER, the actual people on the team were supportive and really trying to get through the mud together. I loved my fellow nurses, my hardworking CNAs, the dedicated CMAs, and the RCMs, although I longed for their help more often than I received it. (Not entirely their fault, they were stretched pretty thin.) 

The amazing DNS that I started with ended up leaving, and so leadership became unstable toward the end of my employment there. Basically that building was constantly fighting to transform and bounce back from some massive challenges, and while the company itself was actually a good company to work for (good pay, benefits, etc), the mental and emotional impact it had on me as a brand new nurse was heavy. 

I WOULD work for this company again, but I would definitely hope that the management team will have stabilized first so that if I'm thrown into a low floor staffing situation again, there's a somewhat reliable team of people to lean on. 

During a typical day at work, much of the day is filled with assessments and documentation. As I work the night shift my medication administration responsibilities are heavily weighted at the end of my shift when early morning medications are due. Much of the night I have the opportunity to spend one on one time with the resident's as they put their call lights on for needs such as PRN pain medication or sleep aids. I use this time to assess the resident for any health concerns or basically any complaint or concern they are worried about. I also spend part of my shift catching up on the paperwork that isn't finished during the day like faxing physicians or entering new orders into the computer. The hardest part of this job is making myself emotionally available to the resident's here. Each person needs something different from me. By the end of the night I have played the role of nurse, mother, daughter, friend, therapist, priest and coach. It can be overwhelming sometimes. I have support from my co-workers and I am able to trouble shoot situations and ask questions of my supervisors about situations that I need guidance in. The most enjoyable part of this job is having the ability to improve the resident's quality of life. If I notice their pain isn't being managed, or they are concerned about their physical therapy, or maybe they just keep getting green beans for dinner and they don't like them, I have the ability to make sure changes are made to improve their lives on a daily basis.

This is an old review. I worked for Avamere years ago, at the Transitional Care of Puget Sound, in Tacoma. The building was newly refurbished when I was there, a beautiful facility! I had plenty of opportunity for learning, but I found the job impossible. As an LPN, I had to pass all the medications, do wound care, IV line meds and care, and call the doctor when necessary. Plus I had to help the CNA's because there weren't enough of them to care for all the patients. I couldn't do it. I'm a careful, conscientious worker; I do things properly. And I didn't have time to do everything. I was always late passing meds because of everything else I had to do and because of the number of patients for whom I was responsible. When I was hired, I was told I'd be responsible for a set number of patients, 10-15, I think. But, in reality, that number kept going higher and higher. The last I heard, nurses were caring for up to 28 patients. Not only was all that a huge problem, I also passionately dislike passing medications, which is a large part of the job. If they were to hire med techs to pass medications, I wouldn't mind working there again. I have good memories working with the staff, including the doctor. It was actually fun sometimes.

I'd like to reiterate that I worked for Avamere years ago, and nearly everyone with whom I worked quit because of the poor working conditions (not enough staff). The facility could be very different now. I hope it is.

Hired to be the staff development coordinator at this facility. My first week on the job I had ZERO general orientation, and ZERO facility/job orientation/training.First day of my training was to occur in 2 weeks from my date of hire. I couldn't access company software for the first 2 days because the IT department hadn't set up my account yet. Was given no guidance from DNS or Administrator other than to tell me to start annual reviews of clinical staff. However, they couldn't tell me what belongs in the review, there was no form to go by for the reviews, and the one person they suggested I ask was out of town for the next 14 days. Half way though my first week on the job a RCM, whom I have never spoken with or even met, came into my office yelling at me about a training that she was supposed to do that the DNS had asked me to coordinate. The following Monday morning (so 1 week exactly on the job), the Administrator calls me into her office and tells me she is firing me because 1) The same RCM told her she refuses to work with me 2) I am not out on the floor enough doing reviews of clinical staff  3) I wasn't getting an OSHA document updated fast enough (even though it was supposed to have been done 6 months before I even started working there). I would NOT recommend this place at all, as there is no training, no guidance, it's every person for themselves. In my 28 years as a nurse, I have NEVER been treated so poorly!

Be warned. The directors in Port Townsend are playing in eachothers pockets. They are incredibly short staffed because of the underhanded stuff they do.. They have staff that chase other workers out the door by making fun of their hearing issues, physical, and mental disabilities. They have staff who treat people and residents like a rock in their shoe, making snide comments about orientation, religions, work place position. They can't keep anyone long enough to have a full staff so they just over work the ones they have.  Some staff are cool, most are irritated from stress and maltreatment so they take it out on others.
The residents are great but the staff make it clear who the favorites are. Any level of dementia and most of the staff is not going to like them. They are vocal about the residents they don't like. They have the same monotone activities every weeks. Same songs, same exercises, over and over and over. The director cares more about income than public safety. Allowing people with self admitted direct contact with covid in the building to interact with the most vulnerable residents. You are told to speak to the residents like children, to lie to them about situations with staff. The whole while over working and underpaying the staff they do have. 

Working as a server at Camera Retirement Home offers a unique and fulfilling experience. The job provides the opportunity to interact daily with a diverse group of residents, each with their own stories and personalities. The role involves serving meals, ensuring that dining areas are clean and welcoming, and attending to special dietary needs.

One of the most rewarding aspects is the chance to build personal connections with the residents, which can be especially meaningful given the close-knit community environment. The work requires patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills, as you often need to address residents' preferences and accommodate their needs with care and attention.

The team environment is supportive, with a strong emphasis on collaboration and mutual respect. Staff members often form a tight bond, which contributes to a positive workplace atmosphere. However, the job can be physically demanding, involving long hours on your feet and the need to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Overall, being a server at Camera Retirement Home is a gratifying position that combines customer service with the opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of elderly residents. It’s a role well-suited for those who are compassionate and enjoy

I have a hard time describing Avamere at Newberg. The good times were good. The community was friendlier than I was used to. We lacked a dedicated kitchen manager for close to a year, so vibes went a long way. If you were friendly to a coworker they seemed to appreciate it, and it felt like you were on a team. When we got the current manager, it was an addition to that feeling. Now we had an inside look at what was going on in the building and what we should be doing. That was nice. Speaking honestly, I enjoyed it.

The reason for the poor review is how quickly it disappeared. How quickly and quietly that team pulled away. It felt like in middle school when Scott told me I was no longer invited to his birthday party. It made me feel stupid for thinking that this place could ever be anything more than a faux high school.

They'll tell you that they love you, then laugh at you when you say it back. They'll thank you for the years of work, the injuries on the job, and congratulate you on your strengths before telling you that it's unreasonable to ask for help. You're here to put in the work, not ask for respect.

They'll like you until they don't. And when they don't they'll try to fire you. When they can't fire you, they'll start a smear campaign. 

More of the same as far as I'm concerned.

When I started working here I loved it. Then they changed our administrator, we got a new person who was way under qualified and they drove us into the ground. After that the next two years we have 10 different administrators!! Seriously 10! Most stays a few months, however one left after the first day and never came back. We have had half as many DNS come through the facility since our original DNS left. Every new administrator would come in and treat the staff like we were the problem. Every time the administrator left they would tell us they were leaving due to lack if support from higher ups. They have a major problem here! I have stayed for 3 years and never been celebrated or appreciated. They bring staff in and don't provide proper training, but then discipline the staff for not being trained. There is never enough Cnas and they don't provide good support. State complaint surveyors are in the building regularly and the building needs tons of improvements. The heat and AC don't work. So in winter is freezing and summer is dangerously hot. They need to replace the fire panel so we had to do fire watch when it didn't work. They don't have good communication at all with staff. I can't warn people enough to not risk working for them. They lie all the time saying they will fix things or pay bills then they don't.
