After 16 months of employment as an RN for Aveanna (after many years in hospital bedside nursing) I feel apt to review for other nurses, aids etc seeking employment and considering this company. 

Aveanna is a fantastic pediatric home care company to work for with unmatched work-life flexibility. There are not many bedside nursing jobs, one to one acuity positions no less, that offer an ability to truly create your own schedule and still get to provide compassionate, culturally diverse and rewarding intensive medical care to individuals that are in need within the home setting. 

The ability to work various shifts with case specific orientation to the patient offers  benefits to both the patient and the employed nurse in continuity of care. Continuity of care being one of the highest valued attributes this company offers- the ability to be case assigned, often long term to a patient/family and be able to closely and intimately assess and monitor, holistically and compassionately, all areas of the patient's needs (medical, skin, pharmacy, equipment, social-emotional, psychological health, family dynamic, home environment/safety and assess your provided intervention/treatment effectiveness in real time.) 

The learning curve of homecare is never ending and this positive offers the the ability to hone in on important nursing skills (in a totally immersive environment being "on your own" for all aspects of around the clock care) and to foster the nursing skill and judgement of picking up on the slightest shift or change in patient status for swift and effective nursing intervention. Not only is the nursing aspect and shift flexibility incredibly unique but the environment as well being inside the home. 

The hardest part of the job (for those who are in need of a set schedule and guaranteed income) is the inability for the company to guarantee hours desired in advance (i.e. if patient is admitted to hospital etc and there is not another case open to be picked up that day on last minute notice etc) however I have found that they will do everything they can do provide you with work on the days you are available if such issues arise. 

Additionally one of the most challenging aspects of home-care remains adhering to professional boundaries with the family (as they can very quickly become "like family", it is still easy to keep in the importance of maintaining professional boundaries in focus and at the same time, incredibly special to be welcomed into the patient's home and become a trustworthy patient advocate and friendly support to the entire family while providing care for their loved one. 

An intimidating aspect of the job, being "on your own" is made exponentially easier by the availability of supervising staff.  The management (clinical nurse supervisors)  are attentive and accessible at all hours of the day and night for any questions or guidance. The office and scheduling staff are friendly, flexible, helpful and communicative and the monthly training received online (and biannually in person) is thorough and solidifies policy and procedure for best on the job decision making. 

Some days I still can't believe I get paid to get to do this work for my job. I couldn't be happier with my experience this far and the flexibility offered fits my personal needs in a way that no other nursing position has ever been able to offer. 


I've read many poor reviews regarding pay, benefits, and job stability based on not understanding the dynamics of working in private duty.  I have worked for PSA for over two years and have loved it,  but it is important to understand a few things before deciding if this is the job for you :) First, all field staff are PRN employees,  therefore this is not a position with benefits other than 401k with a 33 cent match on the dollar and a few other token benefits that change year to year.  The job itself is working one on one with chronically ill children in their homes.  Since you become an important part of the family dynamic it is important to find a good fit which may mean you have to change cases once or twice to find somewhere that you and the family both feel comfortable,  but once you do many nurses go on to stay for years with the same patient/family.  Pay is based on the acuity of the patient and not credentials.  Medicaid decides whether the patient requires a LPN or RN to deliver care and reimburses the agency based on this decision.  A RN can work a LPN case,  but will be paid by the agency at LPN rate.  This is not the agency trying to be cheap and only pay LPNs as I read in one review,  it is simply how insurance companies have found another way to save themselves money. If you look up medicaid reimbursement rates for private duty nurses you will see the agency is not making very much at all and that dictates the pay rates.  While you may not make "hospital money" you also will not be running around with 7 patients killing yourself.  You will provide one on one care and it is very laid back and rewarding.  You also have complete autonomy within the limits of your plan of care,  of course.  You get monthly visits from your supervisor and can also go in to the office any time for education.  There is also on line training available on many topics that you can utilize any time. There is always a staffer and clinical RN available to you 24 hours a day to answer any questions you have so support is literally a phone call away. If you can accept the parameters of a PRN job without benefits then this job is very rewarding and you will make a huge difference in life of a child and their family.  If you require benefits or can't accept having a few days off without pay if your patient winds up in the hospital,  then perhaps private duty nursing may not be the way to go.  The office staff at this location is great and they are super supportive. You dictate what days and hours you're available and the staffer will offer you cases that fit your requirements.  The office wants you to be happy with your assignment and is understanding if you request to change cases for some reason.  They also have your back 100% if parents try to get you to do things outside of your scope of duty.  All in all this a great job and you will really feel like you are making a difference in the life of a child!!!

I was offered a position as a school nurse but it was not explained to me that I still needed a 2-step PPD just to be a school nurse. I was assured I would start work immediately so I quit my job due to scheduling. Then I was told I had to go to orientation but I could start the day after. Come orientation turns out it was only for home health which was not explained to me and I was unable to work until that 2-step ppd was done. Which meant a week and a half with no work due to being given the wrong information. I was once again assured once my second ppd was placed, I could start work. I was barely placed in a home for 2 days but no other work could be offered until the week after. Which started a day late because they couldn't figure out who would train me. Mom at the second place had to train me (which also happened with another case I was given) but that was only for two days. The first case stated they wanted a more experienced nurse so they had to find a new place for me. I ended up being placed at another home for 4hrs and was told it was either here or there was nowhere else they could send me. After my check never arrived that week, I called to state I will be leaving due to lack of cases, disorganization and miscommunication. The final straw was my check not coming in after being assured multiple times I will receive it on time even though they were having issues with my information.  It was then stated that the issue was not resolved (this was now Mon) and they had to put it in the system then. I demanded for corporate to be contacted so I can receive my money asap due to already going a week without pay due to their own miscommunication. I did get direct deposit the day after. But once again, there was an issue with my pay after looking at my paystub and they missed a day of pay as well as payed me the wrong amount. So I had to reach out again for this to be fixed. On top of all of this, everyday for a week and a half I called for a letter of hire for free daycare services and was given an excuse every single day as to why she could not write it up. I was paying for daycare services I didn't need most of the time because they didn't have work for me and they could barely write me a letter to help me out with that matter (I never got it btw). This place has been completely unprofessional and I put too much trust into the people who were supposed to help me. Don't hire people if you don't have enough cases to put them on! I also made this company very aware of the experience I had so they have no excuse as to why I could not find work.

I have worked for PSA for about 6 months, and I do have to say I learned a lot clinically, the scheduler out of the Stratford office was great to work with my schedule, but when it came to Management I do not feel issues that staff had were taken care of in a professional/timely manner. There are 2 different offices, and from personal experience the Stratford Office is/was the best one for me to work with, the Plainville Office was nice also working with my schedule, but I was pushed into taking on certain cases that I honestly did not have time for, there were times I was not available, but yet I was placed on the schedule and other cases (as said above) I was told I was going here and not asked; Where as the Stratford Office would ask and take driving into consideration. In personal experience working for this company again I did learn a lot, but when it comes to certain issues with management, I personally feel you are up in the air with no idea what is going on. I had a personal/professional issue (that was my fault and I took full responsibility) and the Stratford Office kept me informed, however I felt it was not dealt with in a timely fashion I was out of work for almost a month. Then when I started working for the Plainville Office I was sent to a new case that I was not asked if I could do, but to get to the point the scheduler did not keep the family informed as to what was going on, I had a personal emergency I had to leave work (for the first time since my employment) while I was orienting and there was another nurse there that was scheduled. I spoke to the supervisor the next morning, but then in the afternoon the supervisor was very unprofessional and told me I was not to work the weekend, then told me to disregard that message it was for another nurse (she stated she called the wrong nurse). I was clarifying my schedule through the Stratford Office the next business day, and that's when I got an e-mail stating I had to contact the Plainville Office. I had ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what was going on!!!! It was at least 1 week later that I was called about the issue that took place. 
I do enjoy working in homecare as an RN, but it is very difficult I feel to be in the home for 8 hours or more with no break, but that wasn't the issue compared to the mention above!

I worked for aveanna as an aba therapist after my company was bought by them. I was one of the top performing therapist yet over 18 months of working they refused to give me a raise until I went out and got another offer. After aveanna bought my original company they cut everyones full time hours to under 30 so they didnt have to pay benefits to us, leaving most of us in a mad panic financially. They also were unable to provide all the employees even with those consistent hours despite there being a huge waitlist of children needing services, and us ALWAYS having consistent hours before. Management was hostile, unorganized, and uncommunicative. Would consistently not respond to emails and refuse meetings. Turnover rate was ASTRONOMICAL so it was almost impossible to figure out who was in charge as there was also no communication. They provided no help during the pandemic, as parents cancelled sessions out of caution we just didnt get paid, they actually set up a fund for us to donate to eachother... so a company with millions wants people not getting paid to support eachother rather than support their employees. Also ZERO covid precautions other than "wash your hands" in an email. In the end as much as i cared for my clients the hostile, low pay environment left me looking for another job. Shortly after I left Aveanna the closed the ABA sector. So basically they bought out a small competitor just to liquidate it when they realized they didn't know how to manage in home care. Leaving HUNDREDS of children with autism with no therapy in the matter of weeks in a field that is already full of red tape and waiting lists. Everything they did was unethical, low pay, no pto, no vacation time, no sick leave, no holiday pay, no guaranteed hours but they insist you have a bachelors or masters degree then pay less than $25 at "top pay" while they charged parents $250 an hour out of pocket if their insurance didnt cover it. The whole company was a sham. 

I will say the therapists themselves were amazing and all tried to watch out for eachother on a sinking ship and truly loved the kids and the job itself but the company made it a hostile impossible environment to succeed. 

Very poor communication from office personnel and scheduler.  You are a number to them, they do NOT care! They ask what you are looking for, but just want to fill your schedule with the jobs they want you at. Training is a joke, no input from staff, even though we are the ones out there in the field doing the work so they have no idea what could be done better!  No appreciation for the work you do unless it's coming from the families.  When you start with a new patient, you practically go in blind and cross your fingers and cross yourself in hopes you're about to enter a decent situation.  Then you wonder what the person who went to the home to open and start the case even did, as you have to start from scratch going over everything with them, while trying to learn about your PATIENT.  Nothing is ever set up for  things to go smooth when our staff starts coming.  I guess they figure we have nothing else to do! The only good thing is the ability to work when you want, so you have the days off that you want (unless they schedule you anyway, which they try).  Usually the parents or caregivers are pleasant to work with, but we get no help in dealing with uncomfortable situations, even when asked.  Hardest part of the job is dealing with the office to help match you to a job that will fit what you're looking for.  I learn things from the families as they can be great resources for information when a child has a rare or complicated illness. I do enjoy most of the families and patients and that part can be very rewarding. Nothing to do with the company. There are hardly any benefits to speak of, but they say they offer them.  I've paid an arm and a leg for insurance, only to find out they hardly cover anything at all!!!  The pay alone shows they do not respect the hard work we do, then no raises are offered! The incentives to pick up shifts or cases they really need to fill are next to nothing.  You do them a favor and go above and beyond working your tail off and maybe you'll see an extra $20 in your paycheck.  It's no wonder they have such high turnover, yet they boast about being the #1 Home Healthcare Agency.  That is a joke.

It is a wonderful and usually joyful job working with medically fragile children and their families in their homes. It can be stressful if do not have a permanent case as you have to adjust to and respect how each family lives. Some are more clean and organized and some the supplies are in a different location each time you arrive.
You are also on your own with medically fragile children, so that can be stressful if they are high acuity, however they do provide training for those patients with tracheostomies and ventilator dependent. You become part of the family, sometimes the child will consider the nurses like 2nd moms, because 2 nurses often care for them  24/7 for 4 or more days a week. 
However it becomes difficult when your patient is hospitalized, you have to ask daily for any available cases to pick up. They send out a list of open cases weekly but often there is no warning when your patient becomes ill and requires hospitalization and by then the shifts may be filled. 
The occasional instability becomes difficult if it is your sole source of income, especially when your patient has a condition that is deteriorating with long hospitalizations. 
It is also very difficult to leave, even when you prefer a more stable job with better benefits, because you become so attached to your patient and them to you, you feel like you would be abandoning them. 
They do provide a 401k with partial match, they have medical insurance but it was too expensive with too high deductible for me to choose it. They have good dental and a wellness only coverage that are inexpensive. Management, case managers, schedulers and director are all excellent. You have flexibility, you tell them your availability when choosing case although out of courtesy you usually are flexible with the family's needed hours. 
It is a wonderful job if you love kids and perhaps have a joint income household so you don't have to use up PTO just because patient is hospitalized and no open shifts that week. Or if you have a PRN job on the side to supplement if needed. Also low acuity cases are less likely to be hospitalized, so the work is more stable, and you do get to choose what cases you accept. 

I used to think this was one of the better companies out there but they are actually the worst Ive ever been apart of. They act privileged, they think they are better then everyone else. They act like they are perfect and act like they don’t make any mistakes; AS IF! I’d have more respect for them if they actually went by their moto of being an understanding and compassionate company that cares about their patients, employees, and future employees well being. The first time I tried making it to orientation I got into an accident and totaled my brand new car trying to make it to that dump, which was an “okay” excuse apparently but when I wasn’t able to make it the second time because I was stuck at urgent care from 3am all the way till 5pm the next day having a miscarriage, that was grounds for dismissal. They couldn’t even call me they sent me a template email about how they couldn’t move forward with employment; how bogus. The WORST part about it was the only reason why I even wanted to come back to the company was because my former patients family really wanted me to come back and be her nurse again because almost every other nurse they sent their way was total garbage and barely took care of their daughter and even after the family tried talking to them and explaining how they only wanted me as their nurse they STILL decided against bringing me back. Screw all the other stuff but if a patient and their family don’t even come first to this company then you can already imagine how they actually operate. I am a very well known and respected nurse out here in Las Vegas so from this point on I will NEVER refer them to anyone I know and if anyone ever asks about this company ill make sure to change their minds. I wouldn’t trust even sending my worst enemy their way because even they don’t deserve to be apart of such a terrible company. I wish I would have known they were this terrible because then maybe I wouldn’t have lost my brand new car trying to make it to their joke of an orientation. For anyone that actually still works there or is thinking about bringing this company on to take care of any family or friends I strongly advise against this because you will regret it.

I enjoyed working with Aveanna. The Eau Claire department was amazing! Everyone of the ladies I worked with were not only family oriented, but friendly and kind and hard workers! Each of them had a team player attitude! We all work around each other's schedules when it comes to personal leave or unexpected appointments etc. I truly never had worked with such an amazing team! However, I just wished we had more trainings, maybe more like once a month for refresher purposes, more acknowledge and recognition, training pay purposes ( I say this because I felt like I did a lot more than what my job had offered and was asked to always help out another branch during times were my department was busy enough already and felt like I was underpaid for doing all this that was not told in my initial interview). I also wished that the nurses actually can understand the back office point of views and how the office tries to get everything in order as fast as we can for them and their workload with patients. There are more steps to go through after accepting a referral that we have to do from the clinical manager, eligibility, intake, and scheduler. We also kept losing nurses and had to flip numerous of patients to the nurses we had and it was always a mess because the nurses would be outrages that we would do that, but then complain a few weeks later once we take them away that they're low on a caseload and need more starts of cares. 

Side note* I had worked with one of the best bosses in the entire world! I will never forget how much she has done for me. She is so caring, family oriented, understanding and kind hearted! She also is looked passed by others in the company and I feel not appreciated enough by others in the company and I hope that from here on out the company recognizes what an amazing person she truly is!

It saddens me that my job was terminated but I really did enjoy working here. Aveanna was a stepping stone for me to have a healthcare background and now I do! So I thank Aveanna and my boss for giving me that opportunity.

I don't know of any agency that pays so little as $16 per hour anywhere for LPN's.    This agency receives over $50 per hour for LPNs from pt. insurance and only pay the nurses $16! Also  do not pay overtime.  But gives $5. extra an hour if it is a holiday or overtime.   But, GOOD LUCK getting 40 hours, much less overtime.   Normally only 20 hours a week.   This agency will give you a full time position and then replace your hours with other nurses leaving you only a few hours per week.  Always hiring new nurses leading you to believe there is a lot of cases....Not so!  Not enough cases for all nurses to find work.   A few nurses get to have a full week of work, not many tho.   The management is obsessive about little things that do not relate to patient care.  And, always take up for the parents side; never the nurse.  Nurses are left in the cold if a parent voices their compliant....never takes the nurses side or opinion.   You are left without a case for any little opinion of a parent.  They are out for the money and seem to not care about the nurses on staff that bring them the money by bending over backwards to give the best of care for each patient that is cared for.  And, the scheduling person is usually very rude.  If you want to be paid well and treated with appreciation and respect as a nurse and have a case consistently, this is not the agency you want to work for.  You can be hired to work 40 hours on a case and end up having to share most all hours with other nurses and a schedule that is different each week.  Occasionally, a case can be totally taken away and replaced with other nurses until one needs off or leaves and they need hours covered for the case you started full time and left without a case at all or one or two days per week.  Schedule can be changed and you replaced without any word to the nurse of schedule change.

Management needs replaced at W. Palm. and quit hiring new nurses to take away hours from the ones already working.  Makes a person wonder how the mgmt. gets to be mgmt. and probably explains why there is such a turnover in this office.
