I live by a quote I’ve always had. “ Don’t get so busy making a living, that you forget to make a life “ I was at The Barrington for only 2 days because the first impression I got was enough to know the job was not for me. Saw my schedule and they were going to make me work 12 hours a day for 6 days a week!!!! On my first day, the cook was so mean and had such an attitude, very rude and so impatient with me. second day, the same with another staff member. They took no consideration into the fact that I was new and learning the ropes. My wife and I have just had a baby girl 5 months old and the 12 hour shifts is not only ridiculous but not ideal for my family because I don’t get to see my daughter at all!!! If I knew I would be doing these hours, I wouldn’t have even applied for the job. If they told me that at the interview I could have avoided wasting everyone’s time. I didn’t get a very good impression to be honest. It is a nice beautiful place, but some of the staff are terrible towards others. It really wasn’t for me at all!!! I understand we all need to work but, my family will always come first before any job where I don’t see my family in the position!!!

I have been with the company for almost 3 years. I have been promoted twice and now understand the quote, "If you love what you do, you'll never work another day in your life". I took a step of faith and applied for a job within the company that I did not really have the experience for. The Barrington took a chance on me and my life changed instantly. Had I not been given this chance, I would have never known the passion I have for a different reason in a retirement community. I look forward to seeing our residents, their families and the growth of our team daily. We have had some rocky patches (as all growing companies do) but I have total faith in the leadership/management that has been recently put in place. I see continued growth with each member of the team as we are all bringing our knowledge, experience, ideas and methods to the table to make The Barrington of Carmel the most important place in Carmel for all who inhabit and all who are employed there. I highly encourage you to volunteer, talk with those who work in the community, seek knowledge if you are interested in our community -  as it is one of a kind.

As a Housekeeper, I found that the residents and line staff were wonderful and great to work with. Line workers understand team work. However, after discussions with the Executive Director and higher ups, I was met with faux attentiveness, no sympathy, and a general "that's life" attitude. 
They have no sick days. If you are sick, they will penalize you for it.  Family emergencies or vehicle troubles? Penalized. They work on a point system. Which means... if you are out sick for a week, you're over half way to fired. Also, you HAVE to use PTO for everything - even though it's an accrual system.
The pay is under-par and they have no problem hiding information from current employees to ensure they stay - while bringing in temp workers with more pay (though fewer benefits). There is NOT room for growth for their employees if you have a resourceful and creative mind. However, if you can ignore the politics of the job and never get sick, you'll be just fine. The residents and coworkers are the real reason to stay.

Manager could really use help managing servers. dietary servers lacks employee common courtesy,respect among co workers, constantly addressing the same issues & rules dos& donts.I  Recognized neg things have gone on so long ,out of hand manager covers up what really goes on In one dept. Majority servers are friends outside of workplace, referred &hired based one employee to another.Hardest,sad have to report issues to other depts to get things addressed that continues.If cameras were monitored , some of the things prob would be seen that should not be said or happening.I suspect  one server was relocated so to not be able to continue to report the things covered up that she goes along w/covering up on in that dept.The other depts head are fantastic & complies w/rules.Treat all residents w/respect, compassion,addressed their need. Residents are beautiful people.

This used to be a good place to work but it has gone down management is useless, they don't listen to employees concerns, if you are not one to kiss their behind then you are out of luck. They had us solicit money from the residents to go towards our bonus for Christmas, they bragged about how they have collected tones of money yet our bonus checks were peanuts so that tells you someone in management pocketed that money. I loved all my residents but I had to part ways with them due to greedy selfish managers. They are so quick to go after your license if they don't like you so be warned!!  If you have an issue there is not one soul to help you because management are all friends and hangout together starting from HR,DON,ADON, Administrator, Managers! take your skills somewhere else until management straighten out

Was at job almost a year. Being there I was lied on and nothing was done to the person that lied. Me and a co- worker witnessed abuse on a resident , but nothing was done to the co- worker just moved off the unit. Me and co- worker got final notice. I was suspended for verbal abuse allegations. Admin informed me that it took 20 min to find it unsubstantiated. I missed 2 days of work because wasnt called to come bac. Wasnt paid because they texted me to come back. 
Too make matters worse. I was bitten by bed bugs , never was told of them by management.
 Abuse is thrown under the rug. I know of 2 cases that should have be reported to state and wasnt. They have been reported now trust me. 
 Tried to get Nurse to write statement like I abandon my job. Sorry there was phone calls made and I was told could leave, boom

I started out as House Supervisor and moved into Unit Manager.  I loved the versatile responsibilities and type of work I was responsible for.  No matter what they added on I was able to do and find ways to incorporate the work into our team.  My unit was first for long term and then switched to rehab for Orthopedics and long term patients (MED A patients).  The floor now takes on Hospice in house care.  I love nursing, the patients and the challenges. I especially loved the members of my team that worked well together and apart with the same thirst for versatility that I loved.  Made for a fun and adventurous day! I also had a DON that loved her patients and her work.  That helps

The one reason I loved coming to this job every day was because of the residents I served. I loved coming to work every week and seeing them and hearing about how their weeks had gone, and all the stuff that hey had been excited bout during the week. I enjoyed working with my coworkers, however so many of them are so young, just getting out of high school and getting ready to move on to college. Which would make that a con of the job. So many of the other servers are only there for a short time, and we were short handed so many times. It's hard to run a fine dinning experience with a shorthanded staff who is fresh out of high school and has little experience with fine dining.

Where do I began... management is racist and they are all friends, nurses giving the residents wrong meds and wonder y they dropping like flies, administrator needs pro active , the coordinator needs to bathe, the nurses don’t know cpr or what to do when someone’s choking, aid still works there after he left the resident on bed pan for 12 hours, nurses come in looking like they step out out of a dirty clothes pile and smell like dumpster juice while the other nurse smells like onions and burgers, don takes the test for the nurses so the can pass , bed bugs just got rid of those, residents eat the same 2 soups all week, always understaffed nobody wants to work there l, 95 million dollars in debt,  this place is not organized and is very in professional

What is the best part of working at the company?
Management works with everyone to assure the job is done with expertise! Our patients are priority! 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
When people call off,   It makes it difficult for the whole team.  We work as CNA's, and Nurses. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I work nights and not too many people are in the building.  I can say, most everyone is helpful.  You always have the one aide that likes to hide.  

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
7pm to 12 am is very busy with med passes and assisting people to bed. 12 am to 3am is mostly charting.   4am to 5am I help CNA's with toileting patients, 6 to 7 is the final AM med pass. Then its time for report.
