I feel sorry for the staff and even more sorry/terrified for the patients there. The management runs their staffing numbers consistently low, then constantly sends text messages to staff with their desperate need to cover multiple shifts on the same day for many days in a row. Also, if you call in sick on "your weekend to work" you had to make up your time w/them. Nursing staff EXHAUSTED. Some staff would come in to do their shift while not interacting with their peers, NOT answering questions, NOT helping others. All the staff nurses I interacted with were in need of keeping their jobs while ALL that I spoke with were actively interviewing at other places for new jobs. The DON/ADON/Administrator all left at the same time. A new ADON hired left without notice on the 10th day of his employment--simply left one day and never came back. Even the HR person left and an "HR Director" hired to replace her.

Some staff nurses CONSTANTLY show up for work 30-40 min. late for the start of EVERY shift and it was considered acceptable by management because they couldn't get (and more importantly, KEEP) good nurses. If there were standards for being on time to work management simply wouldn't keep them, leading to an even greater shortage of nursing staff. So, management chose to cater to the few nurses that don't show up on time because they couldn't recruit/retain adequate numbers of nurses to allow for quality standards to show up on time. If they can't enforce standards regarding showing up to work on time, what do you think is happening to the standards regarding patient care? Exactly. AND, IF YOU'RE A NURSE WHO TAKES PRIDE IN DOING THE RIGHT THING---YOUR BEST---BE CAREFUL! Enough said. No more questions. 

RNs are few AND paid poorly; LPNs are paid exceedingly well and take on charge responsibilities for the entire house as well as individual units; CNAs are considered disposable and top out at $16/hour regardless of their level of experience. I met some amazing CNAs (w/20+ years of experience) who would not be compensated according to their many years of experience/caring. RNs were dispirited, beaten down, and looking elsewhere. Not one of the nurses I met had long term plans to stay there....leaving was a daily discussion.  

In my orientation class there was 1 RN/8 CNAs hired because "they quit/don't show for work after awhile". Many times I would arrive to work and there was not one CNA there to work on the unit. Then, the hunt for a CNA would become desperate and one from the other short staffed units would be pulled, resentful. After seeing how the CNAs were treated, I began to understand why CNA turnover was so high. The general orientation looked good & we saw many long term employees (Good, right? Few long term nursing staff, though.) On the up side, many FT employees NOT IN DIRECT PATIENT CARE were there for many years. 

They hired me for a FT position (I was thinking 40 hours=FT) and never gave me > 36 hours/week (they run 12 hour shifts). On my very first day my personal cell phone was bombarded w/"requests for help because we're short" from the 1st day I was there until a week or so after I quit. Why not give everyone 40 hours, pay them appropriately, treat them with respect and provide them with decent health benefits? INVEST IN YOUR STAFF! Don't simply overpay your LPNs while stiffing everybody else and perhaps your staffing will improve. Also, health benefits begin in 90 days and the health benefits were so expensive/poor that some of the employees would work FT, NOT take the benefits for themselves, and in some cases would have their kids on public aid health benefits. Health benefits were scant; there were two choices-one was catastrophic ($5,000 deductible) coverage like you might find on the health exchange, making the only other option look so much better. It wasn't. 

I felt badly for one new nurse. She came in on her 3rd day of orientation and was told, "good luck, you're on your own"; 30 patients, no CNA. She wasn't even in the system yet so she could even log on to do her work. The other staff member assigned to work with her refused to even look her way, let alone help her. Nothing I could do. It's a joke that happens all too frequently. People keep their heads down, put in their time, then leave. It's rumored that the owner of the place passed the business to his son to do with as he likes. However, whatever the truth is, management is poor; supplies are few and disorganized. Employees who work there are exhausted and not treated well. The ones who show up to work on time (most nurses are actually caring, competent & professional) are not valued and it's particularly discouraging to have some staff show up for work when they feel like it (late), while others are professional and on time. Little opportunity for advancement. The new DON is a former staff nurse there and has little--->no regard for the nursing staff. It was a dangerous place to work with too few of the hard working RNs that are there every day, putting their licenses at risk every day they work there.

Working here was a nightmare. Always understaffed. Treats CNA like slaves instead of workers. If there is a fault on their end they will try to get out of it by blaming those below them. Not a lot needed to get this job. They accept anyone and it’s a jungle in there. No one will help you AT ALL. You will hurt your back. Batteries are never charged and you will be doing all of your work alone, always will be behind, and they will offer you as much hours as you want. But you will barely be able to cover what you got from the back pain of working alone. Even on days one person will have over 20 people to themselves regularly. No one wants to show up, and people quit almost every day. So much gossip too... it’s like a school. No organization. They use towel for cleaning people, but never have towels clean. Not to mention they can barely keep laundry workers too. It’s literally a war between the workers to get towels to care for the residents. Also sheets or anything really. To the extent workers are hiding supplies in residents rooms to have for themselves when they work. State is in constantly. Nothing is where it should be and they really do not care about you. You are only a number to them. They called me from work for paperwork, my co-worker was supposed to cover me. He didn’t and the office people said the paper work was optional, and I should have waited and my co-worked said he never accepted to cover for me for doing the paperwork. I was never told the paperwork was optional and asked them to run the cameras to show me asking and they said they wouldn’t do it. Turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

* A typical day you not only have your job responsibilities but you are pulled in many directions for many reasons. 
* What you learn is in this field you need to be humble and selfless. This is a field you need to be compassionate and know that you are providing necessary care.
* Management, at the end of the day we are all met with road blocks but yet need to find a way to continue to work around them. Most want to see that the needs are met for the residents. Most will go above to provide the care they require.
* The workplace culture needs improvement. There are far to many individuals who are in the wrong field. If you are working in the healthcare field just for a paycheck than you don't need to be there. You must know you are doing God's work. You are there to make sure the best possible care is given to the residents. A lot of people lose focus and do not provide even the basic care that is needed. The healthcare field especially long term care is not for the weak. It is not for the lazy. It is hard work physically and emotionally. However it is the most rewarding when you see the happiness of the residents and their families.
* The hardest part of the job is losing residents. You will have residents pass away. You will have residents discharge. You build relationships with them and their families. It can take its toll.
* The most enjoyable part of the job is the unexpected relationships you build with everyone. It also is the best feeling when you see your residents happy and healthy and enjoying their day.

I lived the actual clients I was there to serve!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Tgdd ed expectations ardd ed above and beyond! The families I was put into had major problems and would manipulate me. The company did but care and let he go instead of find me new cli  ed it’s and  c then blamed me and I was. Of sbmd to collect unemployment when I have 4 kids! Also I was recorded without consent which was against the company handbook and nothing done . Also emotionally abused by one of the mothers who admitted to having major mental dosorders which I cannot disclose but I am a psychology major. This company had a wonderful employee and totally disrespected me in the end instead of support me!

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It is different in each home. Different family systems . I reported everything but was not appreciated. Some moms of the people being helped were extremely manipulative!

I was hired by Bria in 2019 as a floor therapist and quickly worked my way up the ranks as manager. I was quickly thrown into the position and learned a lot on my own.  I worked shoulder to shoulder with the D.O.N and administrator, they were a big help. However, a lot of changes took place and I lost a lot of respiratory staff having told to downsize to 1 RT per 15 vents. Working at Bria is very fast paced and short staffed. Many CNA’s work alone because they feel as though they can’t ask for help. Recently Bria put the right activity staff together for the residence and I love to see them enjoying themselves and being creative. A few things I would like to see change is the attendance of our staff members and for management to hold staff accountable. I would also like to see upper management/owners working closely with the staff. Teamwork and leadership is very important. New ownership may take place.. which leaves me very uncertain. 

Current work environment is exciting and rewarding serving those that require supportive services. The living situation of those serve are in apartments. Management is in accordance with the State Regulations governing Residential Care Apartment Complex. Eighty-five percent of the residents are members of My Choice Family Care. Duties also include managing and mentoring staff which are LPN's and Medication Technician/CNA's.I manage assessments of new residents as well as assessing those with any changes in condition. I also work closley with a Social Worker.Collaboration with other Team members, such as Physical,Occupational and Speech therapy are conducted through weekly meetings and as needed. I also participate in Leadership meetings. I have 24 hour accountability. Learning is ongoing and information is sought out from the LeadingAge as needed. Most important is maintaining best practice standards.  My direct report is to the Administrator.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The department that I worked in; Restorative had 100% team work!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
My co-workers were 99.9% women, who brought their female homelives to work with them! I was a man about my business of flawlessly performing my tasks and providing patient care determined by my supervisor, I was not there to listen to female plights and complaints!

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
There was a close net departmental work ethic, however, there were times when interdepartmental teamwork did not exist.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I was typically about business only. I spent little time with outside personal interference. It required a great deal of decision-making on the spot and hands-on technical work.

Typical day was overall very structured beginning with meeting with IDT to address and prioritize issues/concerns/areas that needed to be addressed. At times very stressful as many healthcare fields can be however the team overall worked well and communicated effectively together during these times to focus on patient care and completing tasks at hand. Management was supportive and I always felt the door was open if I had any questions or concerns which is always a plus to feel like you have support behind you in upper management. Overall, obtained a significant amount of clinical experience while working here not only through collaboration with health care professionals but also through interacting on a daily basis with the residents. As I made the move to advance in my career, it was difficult to leave and always enjoyed working with the staff and interacting with all the patients at Bria

I was here as maintenance, the grounds keep, the painter, and the flooring installer assistant but was still only making $15 which was the offer they gave me for doing just one of those jobs. I was told after 90 days I would be reviewed and possibly offered more, that never happened. Instead I was given more work and job titles, I was assaulted at work while on the clock, was then denied work mans compensation and forced to pay my own hospital bills and shortly after was laid off due to cuts in the maintenance department even tho i had been there longer than some of the workers they had decided to keep. This place started off as a great place to work, the people you meet are great and help you get through the days but as a company they don't care for you and will treat you like trash and toss you to the side.

This place looks nice when you get the tour, but once you start working you realize how disgusting it is and how careless the staff are. There are a handful of employees that actually care about the resident's and try to do the right thing but there's way more that don't have a care in the world for the resident's, especially the CNA's. Management is looking for bodies, not quality workers. Multiple employees need to be fired, and have been complained about but management does nothing. WORST thing: EXTREMELY UNDERSTAFFED. You will find RNs doing CNA work, which makes their duties fall behind and resident's upset. CNAs sit and do nothing when call lights are on, don't change residents, mistreat residents... An all around chaotic place to work and very disgusting. Cleaning employees don't even mop the floors, clean toilets, NOTHING...
