When I originally applied at BSA I was trying to become an ambassador (food server) they told me the position was filled but I could be part of environmental services (janitor/maid). I was told the hours were flexible and they’d be able to work with my school, they told me of all the benefits and great pays and all these other good things about the job. I started and my first week was fine. I was trained by a very sweet lady and the original staff was pleasant. After that it all turned around. I was able to finally be on my own, it would be the first time working alone, keep in mind that you were timed on each room, they had to be spotless because of course it’s a hospital and it needs to be clean, perfectly normal. However, the rooms I cleaned were 2-3x BIGGER than the average room and no extra time was allowed, it counted against me and my performance if it went over the time, which I almost always did. Even after months of doing it and getting the quickest routine down, I was barely cutting it and it was still counted against me. My rooms were always done properly and cleaned to the max but was still counted against. I was told I’d get 2 day off every week and that I’d get every other weekend. I ended up working 6 days and then getting every other weekend, they would become upset that my times had slowed down later in the week than the beginning. I was tired because they never accommodated my school schedule that I had given them prior to hiring me, which they said was not a problem to work with. I would go to school at 7:30 and the finish at 2 go to work at 3 and wouldn’t get off till almost 11:30. When I tried explaining how they had messed up my schedule they blamed it on another employee and didn’t fix it until a few weeks before I quit. I wasn’t enjoying my job so I was looking at moving to a different department, when I tried to move I was denied and told that I was not able to move until I had been at the company for 6 months. Basically someone who hadn’t been at the company could come in a get a job over you just because you hadn’t worked there long enough, even if it was a chance to promote. At this point I was frustrated,I attempted to give notice at this point my supervisor came and spoke with me about getting me to stay, I told him that the job didn’t pay enough for what we did and the schedule needed to be fixed. I was offered the option for more money but they didn’t follow through and when I tried to fix the schedule I was told they couldn’t because of the floor I worked on. I kept attempting to email all the people above me because I wanted proof of everything and it wasn’t until I got the big boss involved that I got a response. At this point I just quit on sight and they threatened me with never working there again, and with that experience I didn’t want to. I was only paid 9.50 to clean up people’s throw up, feces, blood and other toxic and hazardous waste clean the over sized rooms, staff and visitors bathrooms, break rooms, halls desk,etc. Stay late into the night and I even got sick myself while there. I was there for my shift but they noticed I didn’t look well so they sent me to the employee nurse and they saw I was running a fever along with other symptoms so they sent me home, came back a few days later only to find out that I had been written up because I didn’t start my shift on time and left work without an excused absence even though they sent me home and to the dr. This job was not worth it. We got paid so littler for what we had to go through while a food runner or ambassador got paid $11, they only took the food to the rooms and then would just wait till the next cart came. DO NOT WORK FOR BSA, ITS A JOKE!!!!

I was at the ENT clinic. One of our insurance does not even cover the hearing aids due to some hire up forgetting to sign the paper. Two they will not hire an individual to scan in our paperwork and there is A LOT of paper for a "paperless" environment. I'm a doctor/provider, I do not have the time to scan in my paperwork on top of seeing patients. They refuse to hire a front office staff to check out patients so there is a long line for patients to check in for their appointment. That then puts the doctors behind more. The people that have worked there are always so kind and helpful. They let you do your job without being overly nit-picky about how you do it. They care about the job getting done and done correctly. Really good about leaving by 5pm now. The main hospital and Ardent do not know anything about ENT or audiology. Always had to fight about coding and coding it correctly. Also, the company part always has unrealistic goals to reach to get your raises. Besides that still a good place to work for considering they do not hound you for everything and there is an office manager that you can rely on. There are not tons of "managers"( fake managers). Also, blamed the staff for bad reviews when 90% of reviews were wait time. Like I said having a front office staff would help and having the accurate amount of nurses as well. 

A typical day at work begin with me making fruit cups for the customers at the deli, then i would make sandwiches for the customers also, i would often give other people there breaks and lunches, so i would do what ever position they were doing while i was giving them their breaks/lunches.I worked in the coffee shop at night for the rest of my shift,( it was about 2 hours) then help the coffee shop close then go back up to the cafe to help the cafe close. I learnd great communication skills along with ,flexibility skills,team work,time management skills, and written communication.The management was great she was always checking on us to make sure if we needed anything or helping us with anything we needed. She was always on the floor to make sure everything was alright.The co-workers were a plus they made it so much fun,and i wanted to go to work everyday. They were very welcoming when i first started and showed me everything i needed.The hardest part of the job was cleaning up the dining center(the place where everyone ate) not so much the hardest job just the most tedious. The most enjoyable part of the job was, my co-workers and the customers. They made it a very fun work place and always very very helpful.

A typical day at this work day starts with crazy and ends with crazy. As a patient care technician, you are expected to get vitals (2-3 times), check blood sugars (2 times), offer and give each patient a shower or bed bath, change the linens for every patient, walk each surgical patient (3 times), turn patients who qualify with a TAP system, keep track of each patients intake and output, keep the patients room tidy, get new patients settled in or get the patient ready to go home after being discharged, and do purposeful hourly round. Which is not bad, unless you have 15 patients and all of the above is required of you. This is a highly stressful job and I personally do not think that this is a good place for patient care technicians to work. 

Day would start by looking at the schedule on the board and start getting the paients from thier rooms in wheelchairs or beds to xray then back again. Or get paients in the waiting room. I learn how to tranfer people from bed to wheelchair, or bed to bed. and hold all the pole they have. Copy film. Hardest part of my job would to keeping smiling to a very angry paients that was not happy about going to xray! but at the sametime it was good to encouter all kind of people and help them if you can. Working with my co-workers was good, but had couple of techs thought they were more important then you! management was good to you along as you do your job!

When I first started working BSA, I would get xrays and reports and take them to Dr. offices that needed them. Take phone calls from Dr. offices and file the film and report where they belong. Use my car.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The educators and floor managers on ortho/neuro floor were amazing in trying to help or teach and making sure I was comfortable where I was at. Awesome people.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
As with any company there are people who do not want to follow protocols. The amazing people on the unit set up a buddy system to turn patients who have a hard time turning themselves. As usual there are a couple nurses who do not feel that this is apart of their job and their attitudes show it.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Positive for the most part, there is qlot of teamwork you just have the usual downers who do not want to be apart of that.

Steady paced, some days patient's made it fun

I worked in the Dining Center.
We were Always short handed,and the supervisors didn't care. To this day they are still short handed,and the employees,not supervisors have to work extra hard.. 1 person has to do the job of 3-4 people. That's why good employees leave. 
Supervisors hide in their office until they came out for breakfast or lunch.
The only time they'd come out was to put on a show if they were told that the Director of the dining center or the CEO of the hospital was in the dining center...
Then and only then would the supervisors act like that cared,and help in either the Deli or hop on a register.

My typical day was checking in at the office and getting pass along from the previous shift.  Going out on patrol either on foot or in the truck, we'd split up based on who wanted to do what.  We locked up patient valuables, assisted with heavy lifting, locked and unlocked doors...mostly ordinary stuff.  Occasionally a crazy or combative person would show up, and we'd have to restrain them without getting hurt - or hurting them.  

Sometimes we were understaffed.  Our managers were okay, some better than others.  I didn't have a lot of confidence in the leadership of some of the other departments though.

Unless you have a upper Managment or Department Head job don't work there. All the patient service department cared about was the numbers looking good.(how fast you did the job/ number of jobs) They did not care about you as a employee. Always felt like you were about to lose your job or get fired. Never felt appreciated for the hard work you did. Worked there for 7 months was told I could switch jobs after 6 months to try and move up. Applied to 15 different other jobs within BSA not a single interview. In the 7 months working there we went through 21 people in the department most would quit/ leave after a short time. Mostly due to management/ supervisors treating them poorly. Lowest pay at the hospital out of all the departments.
