Balance Point has been a great place for me as a developing professional. I started with the company several years ago when we were much smaller. I've seen tremendous growth within the company, management, and staff. A typical day for full time employees typically ranges from 6 to 8 sessions per day with time to seek consultation and participate in other staff support systems like one of our support groups or off site staff events. Balance Point sets high standards for our clients care and our professionals are dedicated to fulfilling this mission. The company management also is intentional in their efforts to care for the staff providing programs for education and advancement, supporting clinicians through all matters of concerns, and developing staff events to continue the company culture as we continue expanding. Developing work/life balance and self care as a new professional can be difficult for many but management does an excellent job of socializing new professionals. One of the most enjoyable aspects of working for Balance Point for me has been seeing how excited members of the management team get while developing new programs to benefit our therapists. 

Balance Point has been great ever since I have started working here. The staff is very welcoming from the very first day. The company is continuing to grow every single day. Everyone is dedicated to provide the best possible care for the clients while holding everyone within the staff to the highest standards as possible. Staff members are great with new members of the team, they help you learn and make sure that you know all the different parts of your department. Management does a great job with company culture, they are reasonable, very supportive, and flexible. They do a great job with scheduling events to get everyone in the company to socialize with each other. Balance Point is always motivated to help provide the best possible care not only to the clients but to the staff as well. There is no place I would rather work. 

This is a company that is always growing. Some may look at this negatively, but it is truly a strength. There is room for growth and advancement often, training is given and paid for when needed, there are high levels of support from all departments, and truly I could go on. I have also been impressed that when suggestions are made on surveys, it seems like they are taken and changes are made. I have never seen a company do that. PTO continues to grow, schedules are made more flexible as needed, and the accepting environment is so welcoming. This is a company that has expectations of employees, these are not unrealistic, and you will be held to these standards. This company is striving to be the best in the field, always growing and changing to meet the needs of the mental health landscape. If you are looking for growth and opportunity, I highly recommend!

As a clinician I am free to focus on my clients, which is most important to me. I have flexibility and support as an independent contractor. Workplace culture has changed as the company grows to a more rigid environment where bottom line is more important, and there is a clear divide between respect for support staff vs upper management, resulting in a lot of turnover. Less emphasis on client outcomes than money.  Overall for clincians the atmosphere is pretty good. Not so good for support staff. 

The higher ups on the operations team would gang up on therapists in meetings and agree with each other about how we should conduct therapy. None of them are therapists. They would then say my deliverables were not a lot after seeing 28 clients a week. The CEO of the company spent multiple meetings yelling at the therapists, and the last few months I was there felt like scenes right out of the movie mean girls. From my perspective, it seemed like everyone was just saying yes to him to stay on his good side.  Get used to the word deliverables, because it's all they ever talk about because us seeing clients pays their salary.

The friendships and connections I have made 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
New management. I love the company, I love the friends and connections I have made, and I actually love my job. However, new management has made working here unbearable. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The company itself is compassionate, caring, and really makes an effort to support employees. However, new management in some departments have caused the work environment to be toxic, and foster an environment where bullying from management is the new norm. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Anxiety, constantly have my guard up.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I enjoyed my coworkers. They were Very welcoming, friendly and family oriented. The team worked well together and they were willing to help you learn the job. There was a common goal there that they were trying to achieve- help others get the assistance they needed. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The job was not stressful. I had my own stresses going on in my personal life that made working stressful.

As I stated previously the were very warm and welcoming.

Go in set up, checkin clients. Set up appointments, very laid back.

The company culture was inclusive and welcoming, at first

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
However, it quickly turned into a toxic work environment that excluded everyone else except for a select few. Poor work-life balance and low pay compared to expectations. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Culture was unhealthy with unrealistic expectations of upper management. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Days were stressful and long. Starting before actual work hours and often continuing into nights and weekends.

The owner is nice, but they expect you to do more than they are willing to pay for. Constantly adding  new tasks daily and giving no type of training on the role they are throwing into you. You are expected to make the same daily goals as people who have been there for a year or more. One mess up and you’re back in the office, and if they feel you aren’t working out (Managing an entire department that was just started within 6 months of being employed) then you will be terminated at the end of a full work day. 

Make no mistake, this company is incredibly welcoming to begin with, but they do NOT care about their clinicians. They are constantly trying to get clinicians to take on more clients so that they can expand. What they expect from their clinicians is unreasonable, but it won’t start out that way. This company preys on baby therapists who don’t quite have their boundaries set firm and are still figuring out how to be a therapist in practice and outside of school. If you are a baby therapist, please run far away unless you want to experience severe burnout early on in your career.
