Working at BCRI was one of the most disheartening experiences of my professional life. While the mission on paper sounds noble serving individuals in crisis the internal reality is a different kind of crisis altogether.

Leadership and Culture:
The organization is plagued by poor leadership, favoritism, and a deeply toxic work culture. Employees who raise concerns are ignored, dismissed, or worse targeted. Constructive feedback is met with retaliation instead of resolution. Communication is inconsistent and often laced with condescension or passive aggression from management. Morale is consistently low due to a culture of fear and dysfunction.

Workload and Expectations:
The expectations are unrealistic and support is minimal. Staff are overworked, under-resourced, and frequently put in situations without proper training or backup. High turnover is rampant for a reason. You’re expected to give your all for a company that gives little in return.

Mental Health Impact:
Ironically, for a place that claims to prioritize mental health, the internal environment does more to damage it. Staff well-being is treated as an afterthought unless you’re part of the inner circle. Burnout is not only common, it’s normalized.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Though the nurses are competent and give the patients quality care, this is a small facility and there are cliques which cause newer employees to find themselves at odds with other nurses (certainly not all) which can create a less than optimal experience for them.  My advice is to definitely not give much personal information about yourself.  Remain a team player and do your job.  Remain pleasant and professional and leave your private matters at home.  The patients are not the issue. It is the select nurses who have known each other for years and developed friendships that interfere with the job.  

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Dealing with a number of nurses own personality issues and a bullying aspect at times.  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Both excellent and difficult simultaneously for the reasons explained before. There also appears to be ageism within the company.  

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It varies.  It depends on the shift and who your coworkers are.


This organization is plagued by favoritism and unprofessionalism, creating an environment where accountability is lacking for those who align with the right people. The nursing department, in particular, is problematic, with poor performers overshadowing the dedicated nurses who are consequently driven to leave. The department's issues stem from ineffective leadership, with the nursing director contributing to the dysfunction. The company’s hotline operations are disorganized, further reflecting the lack of effective management. Significant changes in upper management are essential for the company to realize its potential, as the current leadership fosters unnecessary friction between departments. Additionally, the six-month probationary period before employees can access their vacation time indicates a lack of support for staff well-being. BCRI has potential, but it won't be achieved under the current leadership.

A day filled with getting to know our locals and their needs while they are experiencing a crisis. Learning constantly available resources depending on each one's need and accessibility. Management is super open door and inspiring, building morale, encouraging bystander intervention (safe), always learning and moving forward no matter where we each are coming from (as their employees). Workplace environment is positive. 
Hardest part of the job is to remain neutral when clients are in a crisis that can be overwhelming for ANY human to experience let alone share in their horror story. Sometimes it's hard to balance logic and emotion when other people's triggers can be triggering. It's a constant self learning experience. 
The best part of job is being a part of a client's success story after their crisis and building the community one person at a time!

Started off as a great and rewarding place to work that sparked a strong sense of purpose. However, over time being overworked, underpaid, and unappreciated became the norm. The internal culture is toxic and very unprofessional and staff are constantly left feeling unheard and defeated despite good intentions and commitment to the cause. Leadership and HR have a lot of  questionable and unethical practices in terms of financial transparency, salaries/raises, hiring, promoting, and terminating staff. The organization promotes nepotism and conflicts of interest. Nurses are constantly putting licenses on the line by being put in unsafe situations with inadequate resources, training, protection, support or guidance  as well as being encouraged to work out of their scope of practice - all under the direction a CEO who is more focused on the client census and $$ than the well being and integrity of staff. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Getting to sometimes help the clients that need help.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not being able to help people who need it. Not being trained sufficiently to know exactly what you are allowed to do. Or what your job entails.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very clique like. A lot of gossip between co workers.And the supervisor. You aren't told when you do something wrong.There is just a mass email sent out about it. So it creates a hostile work environment 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Sitting waiting to see if we get a referral for someone who needs help. Most of the time we can't go out on the calls because there's no clinician on duty

I will simply state that this is an amazing place to work. Many companies promise diverse methodology, open door policies, and a straight forward system but BCRI does more than promise: they deliver. 
My supervisor is a hard working individual who always makes time for me despite being engaged the majority of the day, and always has an answer to my queries, and will guide me in the proper direction if she cannot. 
I was fortunate to find such an amazing career opportunity, and I look forward to each day providing services to my clients, and having unfettered support if I need to utilize these specific resources. 

Days vary dependent upon climate of mileu.
Effective monitoring and supervision of all clients also assisting clients with basic care, therapeutic and leisure needs. 
Timely reporting and recording of all clinical and client related information. 
Effective crisis intervention. 
Team building
The hardest part is the revolving client who is deteriorating with every episode. 
The most enjoyable part of my job is connecting clients with resources that have assisted in getting them on the track to building a better foundation for recovery.   


you are just a number and there is a reason that the turnover rate is so high, a lot of misleading information, dangerously low staffing, expect a lot of work but get mad about overtime even though staying over is the only way you can get everything done, love the people I work with, but the administration and upper management and people who aren’t there on a day to day basis are horrible and have no idea nor do they care about their employees or the conditions, more about the money than the clients, very sad. It is rewarding at times and helping clients is the best part, but it’s unacceptable the way the place is run with little to no policies or criteria in place, among many other things…

BCRI is managed heavily by middle management which means your experience varies greatly depending on your dept. Upper management rarely intervenes in issues in your dept so you can feel powerless. Additionally, there's no clear sense of vision and direction of the organization so your future can feel uncertain. Morale is low, hence turn over is high. An unprofessional environment but they provide a great service for vulnerable people. They're several opportunities that provide a lot of flexibility.
