Typical day at work: deadline too tight, mission impossible, not enough clarification/instruction for direct management, always guessing what your manager wants, no sense of urgency, too many "discretionary" decisions, any creativity/change to current way of method will not be encouraged, exclusive friendly environment to Chinese employees (who also speak fluent Mandarin) ONLY

I'm grateful for giving me exposure to the career I now know which direction I want to pursue further, but 2 months in i'm already not happy working there.

Hardest part of the job is when there's a problem, you find out after it happened that you were included in the full communication, but you are scolded for all of it. Also really don't like that the management has no sense of urgency, there's too much cultural hierarchy that for a lot of necessary things, you have to seek signature from EVPs and SVPs and the CEO, and they are very hard to catch. I'm China born Chinese but working here reminded why in the beginning I didn't want to work and live in China, and why I don't want to work for Chinese companies in the US. Diversity really is a joke here.

Poor management and toxic environment. No life but work. Don’t assume you would get promoted or career advancement if you were a top performer. Your boss may rather find someone who is obedient and a loyal follower than an experienced professional. No paid maternity and paternity leave, no caregiver insurance. You thought you had been working from 9 to 5 and called it a day then you were wrong, you would be asked to work overtime after getting home and during the weekend. Lots of expats are put in crucial roles and they barely know how to manage their employees. 

As an intern, I mainly assisted auditor to conduct anti-money laundry audit, and translate the project report. During this internship, I learned how to perform internal audit in a commercial bank, and which section is significant for a bank. Besides, I learned how to plan and write the report and other relevant work paper. Bank of China has a quite friendly work environment. All of my co-workers and manager are friendly to each other. It was like I was working with a big family. Although it was busy season when I worked there, I really enjoyed and fortunately I did all works well. In conclusion, I love worked there because I was able to learn and practice in my daily work.

Verify and examine information and accuracy of loan application and closing documents.
Interview loan applicants in order to obtain personal and financial data, and to assist in
completing applications.
Assemble and compile documents for loan closings, such as title abstracts, insurance forms, loan
forms, and tax receipts.
Contact customers by mail, telephone, or in person concerning acceptance or rejection of
applications.
Record applications for loan and credit, loan information, and disbursements of funds, using
computers.
Prepare and type loan applications, closing documents, legal documents, letters, forms,
government notices, and checks, using computers.

I assisted my loan manager to complete 5 large private firms annual credit worthiness reports. My part is based on the annual financial statement to compute the financial ratio and then give a objective health and operational analysis. In addition, I accompanied my loan manager visiting the firms that we plan to evaluate, enquiring firms' operation and financial conditions, exchange thoughts and come up with a future prospect. during the conversation, I would take the notes and forth integrate into the annual report.

A typical day at work was to assistant manager deal with related businesses, including corporate business and personal business.
I learned how to fit the fast-paced environment in banking field.
The hardest part of the job was dealing with customers' transactions in first week when I was not familiar with the business. The most enjoyable part of the job was I contributing to create a harmonious working atmosphere between colleagues. We can communicate with each other and solve problems in a timely manner.

The job position was very secure, which also brings average job advancement and compensations. Work/life balance is perfect, with about 40-45 hours of work per week. My coworkers are all very helpful; they taught me many things in life when i just arrived at NYC, and in industry when i was fresh out of school. Overall, a very good place to work at for a newcomer in finance industry as an international student.

•	Attained skills and knowledge in different areas of the company such as Investment, Financial services
•	Assist customers with wealth and financial management planning.
•	Develop strategies for customers regarding exchange rates in their business and financial dealings.
•	Conduct training and supervision of internship students to assist in their transition into the banking industry.

Before I work for Bank of China I spoke Chinese may be a few times a week, at bank of China I spoke Chinese constantly. It build up my confidence of the language and improved my vocabulary with words that I either Forgotten or never knew. 
As for the work,  it was the standard PMO practices that are in place for any corporations.  
I enjoy working there becuase I regain my familiarity of a culture that I have lost touch with
