Working at a place where senior management only prioritizes minimal compliance with the law and demonstrates no loyalty to its employees is a disheartening and demoralizing experience. The toxic work environment that results from such an approach is a breeding ground for dissatisfaction and burnout.

The lack of genuine concern for employees' well-being and job satisfaction is reflected in the company's unwillingness to invest in their growth and development. Opportunities for advancement are scarce, and there's an overall feeling that your contributions are neither valued nor acknowledged. This breeds a sense of disillusionment, leading to high turnover rates as employees seek more fulfilling and supportive workplaces.

Moreover, the focus on bare-minimum legal compliance creates an atmosphere where employees feel constantly on edge, fearing that their rights and well-being are not adequately protected. The absence of genuine care for their concerns amplifies stress and anxiety, making the workplace a hostile and unhealthy environment.

In such a setting, the lack of loyalty from the company to its employees erodes trust and fosters a sense of betrayal. This toxic culture ultimately impedes productivity and innovation, making it a decidedly unpleasant and unrewarding place to work. Employees deserve better, and a company that prioritizes compliance over people is failing on a fundamental level.

-Job Culture used to be fun, mostly because of team comradery. But nobody cares about nobody now.
-Management is the worst. Constantly making bad decisions covered up by pointing blame on others, or divert the attention to something else. I overheard the IT managers (mainly the CIO) talk so much trash about good employees like they were enemies. Same for the BSA managers on several occasions. 
-Job security does not exist, never heard of anybody retiring from the company. I have seen whole lot of people laid off that are close to the age of 65. Promotions go to the managers' buddies, new job opportunities also go to managers' buddies. I've witnessed a ton of hard working employees passed up for an idiot. Hope is top heavy... a lot of demands but only a handful of people actually producing work. They hired all the rejects from big companies and are taking a good company apart.
-Only good thing at Hope are the medical benefits.
-Overall I hate it here and have been looking to move. 

Hope used to be a strong cultured company, something the community was proud of. Now its just one of the worst companies to work in SoCal. Customers are going to the competitors and Hope is a last resort bank now due to the service. The CEO is a puppet and the Board is looking to get bought out. HOPEFULLY some new investors will come and make the right changes. This place needs a make-over, or a complete do-over from 5 years ago. 

I worked in the Manhattan branch so it was kind of a hassle to commute from Queens. Bank of Hope is very professional in their hiring process, their training process, etc. They pay you overtime, which is lawful and appreciated by all the employees. I loved every single person I worked alongside at this branch, except the branch manager. My manager's were all so understanding and kind and respectful. They were also super helpful at times I needed the help. The branch manager is my least favorite part of the entire workplace. She judges people, customers and employees alike, based on their physical appearance and financial wealth. I understand that this is common amongst people but in the midst of all the humble and kind managers and employees there, she stands out in a negative light. If she wasn't there, I would probably be still working at Bank of Hope.

Management needs to step up their game. Work environment was more or less bearable but some of the employees (particularly the middle-aged wo/men) tend to gossip and age discriminate. The superior I was under was pleasant enough--at the beginning--before I quickly realized he was a narcissistic, egotistical man that had no qualms about fixing his rude temperament. It was starting to become painfully apparent that he, as well as the upper management, looked down on the newer, younger employees. The work in itself, however, was remarkably pleasant. It's a pity, as management definitely needs to step up their game, or else it would've been a great job to work at. Benefits were great too. Overall, I would NOT recommend my friends or anyone to work/apply here.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
depends on your team and department and managers.  the environment and culture were generally ok but the politics of a new C-level executive taking over and subsequent reorganization made coming to work and participating in meetings a nightmare.  we all know about friends getting hooked up with promotions/jobs and control/power while everyone else has to do the real work

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
scrambling to put out fires while managing triage of executives and various business requirements,

Managers care for employees’ growth. Benefits (health and 401k) are excellent; salary is decent. When needed, employees in other departments are willing to offer assistance and guidance regarding work-related matters. There is a cooperative atmosphere throughout the bank. Remote work was offered during Covid pandemic for back office which showed the the company’s interest in employee safety. The bank started a credit training program and has other trainings to help employees with work.

The bank is investing in software to keep the bank competitive and streamline work process. CRM and LOS have been very useful in consolidating, streamlining, and managing loan workflow from initiation to origination.


If you are thinking about getting in to banking, forget about this company. As many previous reviews mentioned, I chose this company as my first banking job because they dont require any previous banking experience. It was my WORST decision I’ve ever made in my life. Their pay is extremely low (I mean EXTREMELY low compare to comparable banks), management dont care about employees and worst company culture. Some reviews say that this is a good place to start your banking career. I wouldn’t say so. Because if you take the job here, you would waste more time at this bank and end up quitting without proper banking experience. You should know why there is always new job post at this bank every month. Very high turnover rate.

The company itself is pretty good. It's quiet, the work processes are generally fine, and it seems like a solid place for someone who's genuinely suited for the banking industry.

However, there are some definite downsides. A major one – although this might vary depending on the branch – is that the company culture is very traditionally Korean, and that can feel quite stifling for employees.

Also, I personally feel that the training for interns is lacking, especially when you compare it to larger corporations. On top of that, there aren't many opportunities for real professional growth or advancement.

So, overall, it doesn't seem like a great bank if you're focused on building your career.

Definitely pays much below than the market average which is causing high turnover rate. People join this company as a learning opportunity and no one wants to stay here for more than two years. It's a dead-end job.
Since there is a high turnover rate, the work load is insane. A lot of people quit and there are no new hires, work is just going to be worse. You are never going to be appreciated with the pay you get for the work you do. You are involved in so many procedures but there is no formal training so you have to figure it out on the job. Everyone wants to leave the company and look for a different opportunity. However, it's a learning opportunity, but you can definitely find a better learning opportunity. 

I work for the General Services Dept. and our main job is facilities maintenance/management, lease admin and purchasing. I feel like our department has a lot of work to do comparing to other departments, because my team of 8 people is the only department that manages and administrates all the bank locations, which includes about 100 locations all over United States. Although we have a lot of work to do in a daily basis, I like to work with my team because it is never boring and most of the times competitive and new, because I feel like i learn all the time.
