Basic Home Infusion

In addition to those duties outlined above, I have continuously served as a Lead Certified Pharmacy Technician, supervising 
	two Technicians and conducting sterile compounding of medications for intrathecal administration to 1000+ patients.  

•	Sterilize non-sterile medications (powder or liquid form) in a Class 1000 Clean Room; ensure compliance with JCAHO, 
	USP 797, and FDA requirements and regulations pertinent to clean room operations and maintenance.  

•	Manage all clean room procedures including proper gowning, opening / closing and maintenance procedures.      

•	Check daily medication orders for accuracy against prescriptions and that calculations and medications are correct prior to 
	compounding; interact with physicians to obtain signatures on unsigned prescriptions. 

•	Participate in in-house quality assurance testing daily, weekly, monthly and annually.  

•	Coordinate shipping and delivery of infusion medications to forty-five field nurses serving 1000+ patients nationally. 

•	As Inventory Supply Buyer, maintain par levels of all medications and reorder as needed; order in-house supplies for 
	compounding, cleaning and testing as well as supplies needed for field nurses.  

•	Oversee pharmacy billing for four outside pharmacies with which we do business; reconcile any discrepancies and sign off 
	on all bills for payment by Accounts Receivable.   

•	Prepared for, participated in, and passed inspections conducted by the National Association  Pharmacy Board Inspectors, 
	the New Jersey Pharmacy Board Inspectors, and JCAHO Inspectors

A typical day at work might consist of 1 to 4 patient visits.  You might have to drive 20 to 200 miles one way to see a patient.  You will visit the patients' homes as you have scheduled.  You will have to pick up with mediations you will dispense from fed ex once a week.  your nearest co worker will most likely be in another state, but they are easily reachable and will cover your patients for you when on vacation or sick.  Management is in New Jersey and as long as you perform your job correctly, you seldom hear from them.  Bu they are available if you need then or have questions.  The hardest part of the job is the excessive driving.  The most enjoyable part of the job is the flexible schecule.  If you don't have patients who need their pumps refilled that day, you don't have to work; but you must be available if a need arises.  And you still get paid. Another drawback to this company is the lack of communication between the home office in New Jersey and the staff in the field.  But over all, it is worth it if you are full time.  If you are part time or per diem, it is hard to be available at all times and not get paid extra.

I had the pleasure of working with many pleasant people during my time with the company. Unfortunately, management is often pretty bad, they will only do what's best for them or the company financially, no matter the cost on their employees. Often times they refuse to hire new employees and just keep increasing the work load for existing employees. Raises are often promised, but never delivered on. The heads of the company can often be rude with zero sympathy for their workers. Threats were made that they would track our work and we were told more than once that they would be watching our computer screens to make sure we were working. If they don't like you, they will make it known. Turn over rate can be very high. It really is a shame as I met many wonderful people during my time with the company. 

This company is horrible.  Employees are treated like disposable commodities.  The owners are pathetic and will be the downfall of the company.  I have wasted a small part of my life working there that I can now never have back.  A few of my direct Co workers were great to work with but all those in management are terrible excesses for human beings.  The work itself was boring and repetitive.   If there were any issues, don't try to have an original thought to try and solve it because that is looked down upon here.  Lastly, honesty will get you let go, just keep to yourself and never speak up.  Horrible horrible place to work, trust me that is no exaggeration.

As innovative as Basic Home Infusion is within the healthcare industry, they are very far behind in compensation. Pay is not on par with the current market. 

While there is room for advancement, people have been promoted internally and given subpar raises in order to avoid paying an external hire the market rate.

Management is firm but fair. However, there is an uncomfortable feeling of always being on the chopping block which can make the environment tense.

A lot can be learned from Basic Home Infusion about the inner workings of the healthcare industry and business as a whole. But the organization is more for younger people new to the workforce to gain experience or for those comfortable with working in the same position with no desire to move upward.

BHI is an excellent work place. All the employee are friendly and courteous. The communications between employees, supervisors, and management is excellent.The management ensure that all employees are treated well and are respected, and have zero tolerance for anyone who is rude or disrespectful. 
I can't think of anything that I can add as to the hardest part of my job. If anyone get overwhelmed with too much work the supervisor will find someone to help out. Periodically checks to make sure everyone is doing well with their work load, and asks if there is anything we need to address.  
The best part of the job, is that those in charge are conscientious of their employee's well being and that anything that's needed is promptly and properly handled.

The IT therapy is very interesting & challenging. You need to be an organized self starter to be successful at this job & not mind a lot of unexpected changes to your weekly schedule. It requires substantial flexibility & travel, as well as an open mind. There are regular issues w/ medication delivery & patients needing dose changes, which make planning a personal life challenging. Some weeks are smooth, & some are very hectic. The other difficulty is related to working remote, the company is in NJ and most of the staff work out in the field all over the country. There is a lot of support from managers & office personal but at times there is a disconnect w/ information.Over all it is a rewarding but frequently frustrating career.

Having been hired more than 6 years ago, I have witnessed growth that has improved the cohesion of this company. Many changes have been implemented that not only make my job easier but more effective for patient care. Our DON is fantastic ! She communicates clearly and frequently with us regarding any upcoming changes or issues we are facing. We have a very responsive and knowledgeable staff of nurses in our Monitoring Center that are always available to us nurses in the field. 
 It is a real joy to be able to care for patients in their homes, without the time constraints of a clinical setting. What could be better than developing your own schedule and working outside of an office ? This is the best job I've ever had.

Sometimes the traffic when traveling  to patient visits scan be stressful , depending in location and time of day

I am mobile most of the time so the work environment is good .

I have home based patient visit n some days and some days I work from home talking with patients for follow up , scheduling visit , communicating with providers and ordering medication

Working at BHI has given me many opportunities to grow and develop as a professional. I have learned how to work with other departments and how to develop working relationships with field nurses all over the US. The managers are very easy to talk to and their doors are always open to talk. Because BHI is a privately owned small to medium sized company, your hard work does not go unnoticed. There is always an opportunity for growth. This is a great place for entry level workers looking to get their careers started in the corporate office of a medical industry.
