I cannot speak to bay cove as a whole, but ACCS and the leadership of the program are not supportive at all. They are overloaded with referrals and are severely understaffed, making it a very stressful and toxic work environment. It feels dangerous to be responsible for that many vulnerable people without active support or a plan for how to shift things while being down so many staff. 0/10 would recommend taking a job with ACCS until they get their service figured out more. It’s too broad of a program, needs to be a bit more focused so they can do something well.  Even with more staff you have to really figure out if the leadership style is aligned with your own personal values. In my case, it was not- I believe in giving quality care to people, not looking at them as a dollar sign or a piece of paper. Leadership look at clients like dollar bills and nothing more.
I did learn a good bit while I was there, and I stayed almost 4 years because I had a great supervisor when I started. I remained hopeful things would improve until it became very clear that there was nothing improving. There’s no staff in sight- and doesn’t seem any are applying. Save yourself a lot of stress and think HARD before applying to an ACCS job at Bay Cove.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The work itself was fulfilling. IT was supportive. Upper management, especially MH was also encouraging. We always had what we needed for supplies. Great vendor to work for. Pay was competitive.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful thing about working at Bay-cove was the lack of transparency. Being told you are a map administrator but not being allowed to make changes to the department that would really count. This created confusion and conflict. The daily disrespectful interactions. Without clear job descriptions and boundaries no team can survive.  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The culture at the company is that there is a diverse group of workers. I will say this so many MAP students touched my heart.  They spoiled me. They kept feeding me. I felt very honored to teach here at Bay cove . I have never been treated by students anywhere else with such warmth and gratitude before and that really stayed with me. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
My typical day was I got in early around 8 and I worked until 4 or 5 
I didn’t have a typical day. Some days I taught other days I had administrative duties

A typical day at work is making phone call to cts parents offereing supports and making referals for home base ect... Everyday i am more amaze by what i learned from my cts ie.. mostly being patient and learning when to empathise and when not to.   When one works in a mental health clinic you learn something new everyday.   When i first started this job five years ago I never imagine that i would be able to manage so much in a day.  But each day i priotize and now i able to manage time and re able to get everything done with the time given.  I ma grateful to work with some of the most talented social worker who have learned so much from over the year.  The hardest part og my job is when i am unble to help a family who is sometimes in needs of a family shelter or an 18year old who needs shelter, half of the time is the hour they are presenting but it's still hard for me to let go even after i leave work.   The most enjoyable is when all my cts  are able to get what they need and want those days are the most enjoyable days of my life because my ct get to sleep somewhere they get to eat and have piece of mind

When I left, I was happy, thinking goodbye to the poor pay and odd management. Actually, their time off benefits are terrific and it us a company of good people. They understood when people needed time off, etc. one thing I didn't like, even though I was part of it, was the management. It seems you don't have to be a good social worker to advance there, just stay for two decades. It is a battle attrition really. I also found that management is overly critical of their clinicians and often hire outside the organization to fill positions. They routinely fail here too, making turnover somewhat frequent. I wish they would just say thank you for the difficult work we do and not nickel and dime over interpersonal conflicts. We all work there to help the clients. 

I do miss bay cove though and would consider returning if they paid better. it is an organization that puts the client first and it can be a rewarding place to work. No shortage of interesting characters at the higher levels. A good experience nonetheless.

Throughout my 2years of employment at Baycove (Andrew house Stoughton) I was offered regular clinical supervision, had a supportive supervisor, and attended daily “treatment team” meetings regarding each clients care. The team members were very supportive of each other and most felt like family. Many staff members are in recovery. I was offered career advancement opportunities being promoted from within the organization. I would have continued working at AH Stoughton had I not had to relocate. Recovery Specialists are often mandated to stay due to the following shift being late or calling out. If you can not EVER stay then being an RS is not the position for you as you could be terminated for leaving a mandated coverage shift (unless you have per-diem status). This is a wonderful job for those who are seeking 50+ hours as there are plenty of shifts available. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
It is a great company to work for. Lot's of room for growth including education. Unfortunately the site I worked at was run by someone that had no business doing their job.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The company has many sites to work at. The one that I worked for did not hold people accountable and let peeps get away with using coming in way after curfew. Great company it all depends where you end up working.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The company itself is full of great caring people the two day's you spend learning about the company taking tests on line you get to meet just about everyone that makes Baycove run. Unfortunately the site I worked at was not a good place to work.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I made sure the guys in the house lived by the rules. Dispensed meds during med times. Listened to the the guys that needed to talk and try to help to the best of my ability. Made dinner on weekends.

I have been working in the human services field for over fifteen years with a number of private and non-profit agencies around Boston...

In my view BayCove rates as above average in quality of care for consumers and in the manner in which they treat their employees. I think the majority of my colleagues take pride in their work and feel as though BCHS provides a place where they can have positive impact on their community.

As is typical with human services work; it can been very stressful and emotionally draining and the compensation is is not terribly good. BCHS is managed well, and we do receive regular raises or bonuses, but many workers need to work a "side-gig" to make ends meet. 

While there is generally a sense of comradeship within the agency, it can be a challenge at time to connect ideas to action, especially across departments. The Human Resources department, for example, is notoriously poor in providing clear and timely communications.

My position at Bay Cove was a rehabilitation specialist, more commonly called worker or case manager, though our work was not managing cases as much as it was educating and rehabilitating people with mental health illnesses.  I learned a great deal from BCHS and from the clients we served like conflict resolution, relationship building, medication management, emotional regulation, boundaries, problem-solving, etc.  Management was exceptional as well as were my coworkers--from director to rehabilitation specialists.  We worked individually and also came together as a team when needed. We worked from a persons strength and person in environment perspective.  With that said, the hardest part of the job was to manage my own expectations of the clients, as they may not have the foresight to common problems in the environment.  Overall, I could not ask for a better non-profit.

This is the most diversified and interactive Job that i have had so far. I loved my experience at Bay Cove Human services, The Clients were the people i was trying to help with their day to day living and upkeep. But the Clients were the ones who ended up touching my life and moving me to a more aware state of mind.
I loved coming in Every day not just to work, but to see how the lives of each client was improving as our partnership and bonds grew stronger. Bay Cove Human services puts the lives of their clients first and prioritize them. Making the clients feel like one of us, vs making the clients feel like they are one of them. And for that i commend and thank Bay Cove for such a wonderful experience that I have witnessed and lived, through my years working there as a staff.

.Management  from the top down really care, and are hands on, so they really know what's going on

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management is very involved  so you really have to "tow the line" there, and the expectations are high, but it's very fulfilling 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Calm but observant.  It's low key and very cordial as management not only work well with each other, but also like and respect each other

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I worked at Andrew House Detox on evenings. The actual physical work depended on the physical, emotional, and psychological  state pts were in. As an RN we did tasks such as vital sign, medications, admissions, and physical assessments.  We also spent time with pts doing teaching about alcohol/drug/mental health recovery
