Behavior Treatment & Analysis

Starting a new role is always a big step, but joining Behavior Treatment and Analysis has been an incredibly positive experience. As an Executive Assistant supporting compliance and operations, my typical day involves responding to emails, managing various projects assigned by leadership, helping to fill employment gaps, and finding ways to contribute meaningfully as I grow into the role.

Even though I’m still relatively new, everything about this company aligns perfectly with what I had hoped for in a workplace. The culture is relaxed yet professional, this is definitely an environment where being a self-starter is key. What stands out the most is the incredible leadership team. Management genuinely cares about both employees and the clients we serve, which creates a strong sense of purpose and community.

The hardest part of the job so far has been holding myself accountable, which is also a reflection of the autonomy that comes with the position. It's up to me to seek out tasks, add value, and take initiative each day, but that’s also what makes the work meaningful.

What I appreciate most is the work-life balance. I can leave work at the end of the day without stress hanging over me. Additionally, the company’s strong emphasis on internal growth is truly motivating. It’s clear they invest in their people, promotions from within are the norm rather than the exception.

Overall, this has been a great place to start a new chapter in my career. I feel comfortable, supported, and excited about the future here.

Came on this job as a BT with some prior ABA experience at another company. The facility I was assigned to work at (Walnut Creek) has friendly office staff but the facility is somewhat lacking in organized/complete toys, snacks for kids and staff, and lately a 2nd working bathroom. While I as a BT have received weekly support from my clinical team, it is difficult to get in touch with upper management about concerns. The job description describes insurance benefits for full time employees. While I came on as part time, I’ve expressed my interest in going full time in hopes of earning insurance coverage. However, frequent session cancellations and the stringent prerequisites make it very difficult to attain and retain company insurance coverage. Tried expressing this to the HR department only to be ignored for about a week; will send a follow-up email soon, been told that you need to constantly “bug” them to for something to happen. It appears there is also high turnover in staff across the board as I’ve seen a clinicians and office staff leave in the short time since I joined BTA. Additionally, because of inconsistent hours, fellow BT’s have additional jobs to cover finances and consequently don’t rely on BTA as their primary source of income. Seems this company is lately been more focused on filling positions as quickly as possible as a solution to high turnover instead of caring for those already in the company to insure retention.

The admin team pressures new employees to write positive reviews in an attempt to cover up the company’s negative reputation. Toxic work culture is driven by favoritism and nepotism. Leadership lacks competence, rewards personal connections over performance, and makes poor decisions without understanding the impact. High turnover reflects low morale and lack of growth

Nepotism and favoritism are deeply rooted in the company’s culture, creating an unfair environment where talented and hardworking employees are often overlooked. Promotions and recognition are largely based on personal relationships rather than performance or merit.

The executive team lacks the knowledge and experience needed to lead effectively. Decisions are frequently made without a clear understanding of operational impacts, and while not always catastrophic, the consequences often cause unnecessary disruptions.

Leadership overall is ineffective and unprofessional, valuing loyalty over competence. This approach not only stifles growth and morale but also contributes heavily to the company’s high employee turnover.

There’s little incentive to excel when leadership consistently rewards the wrong behaviors.

Pros:  
Some frontline staff genuinely care about the children and try their best within a difficult system.

Cons:  
Leadership appears far more focused on rapid expansion and optics than on maintaining the quality and integrity of ABA services. The company often hires individuals with little to no experience working with children and provides minimal training or clinical support before placing them with clients.

Rather than investing in developing knowledgeable therapists, the priority often seems to be filling positions quickly to maintain billable hours. This creates a revolving door of staff and inconsistent care for the children who depend on stability.

There is also a noticeable disconnect between leadership decisions and the day-to-day reality of providing ethical, client-centered ABA services. Important concerns about professionalism, training, and service quality are often overlooked in favor of maintaining growth and coverage.

For a field that serves vulnerable children, the lack of investment in staff development, clinical oversight, and consistent standards is deeply concerning.

Advice to Management:  
Slow down the expansion and invest in proper training, supervision, and ethical clinical practices. Children and families deserve quality care, not a system that feels driven primarily by numbers and growth.

There are pros and cons as is any company but although there were some attempts in my time of them trying to improve which I was in support for, I was quite disappointed  in the end outcome of what I've had to experience.

To summarize, this company is so focused on trying to grow and expand when they don't even have the manpower in multiple positions to cover. Some leadership are kind and great, where some which I've experienced are overbearing, rude, and confrontational. They expect you to take on more than you agreed to on your contract, there's poor communication and structure/organization, individuals are attempting to fix issues without proper guidance, there have been employee situations that were poorly handled, employees who have quite for how much their roles and peers have mentally and emotionally affected them, and at the end of the day they'll just try to find a way to replace them if someone quits or leaves and attempts of improving things as feedback for why people left is seldom seen

There's a reason they have a high turnover rate for multiple positions in the company. I root for them to grow as any startup has its own issues, but please invest in your employees more, listen to them, and train them

I enjoy my driving adventures throughout the day. Aside from driving from house to house, I enjoy buying myself lunch, reading a book at a cafe, and shopping in between sessions. 

However, the hardest part of the job is frequent client cancellations. This leads to wasted time driving, less pay, and less opportunity to earn & maintain company benefits (such as healthcare). There are no consequences for parents who cancel frequently. So, parents take advantage and withdraw as they please. This does not benefit direct care staff who are prepared to work.

The 2nd hardest part of the job is a lack of in-person supervision from higher-ups. As a Behavior Technician (BT), I often go 2 months without supervision... I could use the help, and ask for it, yet Behavior Treatment & Analysis staff seem to be too busy/overworked to help the BTs and families improve their skills.

This company is one of the best, there is no micro management, as long as you do what you need to do and do it right, you are in the clear. I really like how generous the company is, they provide snacks in office, coffee, tea, etc. Despite being a small but steadily growing company, they are very open with giving employees extra perks, they pay for employee travel arrangements and employee get togethers when going into meetings in other areas which may be outside of the office. The employees they hire are also generally nice and easy going. Management is open to feedback, not only open to it but they do their best to implement the feedback. 

A typical day at Behaviour Treatment Analysis is structured and fulfilling, with consistent routines and supportive supervision. I gained valuable experience in behavior intervention, data collection, and working one-on-one with clients, which strengthened my skills in applied behavior analysis (ABA).

Management is approachable, communicative, and always open to providing guidance and feedback. The workplace culture is positive, collaborative, and focused on both professional development and client success.

The most enjoyable part of the job is seeing the progress clients make and knowing your work has a meaningful impact on their lives.

I started off at BTA as an Assistant Center Coordinator at their Antioch Center back in March 2023. This company has given me so much opportunity to grow and move up. They've allowed me to implement my ideas and increase my skills with new tasks and collaboration. This company cares a lot about their employees and encourages internal growth. I feel extremely blessed to have come across their job posting 2 years ago. The people you work with are great, Management is very supportive and helpful. If you want to work in ABA and not work in a toxic environment , BTA is the place for you!!
