I have worked in a variety of positions at BHN and no matter what level I have been at, I've been treated like dirt. Not only is the management horrible, pay is barely above minimum but they also do things illegally. There have been several shifts I have worked on and also heard from other staff that, where they were out of ratio meaning, two little staff for how many clients were home. Not only is this not providing the best care for the individuals but it makes it completely overwhelming and unsafe for the staff member. They also have repeatedly done poorly on state run audits, mostly due to the fact that they do everything half a** or are completely behind in the times, until about 3-4 months before the audit is supposed to happen so all staff have to work insane overtime (which for management you don't get paid overtime) just to meet a substandard level. Residents are given mediocre care at the best times due to BHN's inability to provide adequate care and hire professional and competent staff. The majority of the staff, including management, that work there are undereducated and desperate for some type of job. The few handfuls of people who actually know what they are doing, leave rather quickly when they see BHN's true colors. In addition, they are also completely behind technologically speaking, and still use all paper records and do not have a cohesive way of doing things across different locations. If you actually go to a good agency, you would see an electronic organizing system and more structure. Finally, one of  BHN's biggest flaws is the way they structure their organization. The staff are in the house with the residents and the house coordinator (who runs that house) is completely separate in the office with other upper management. This creates lack of accessibility, communication and organization. In the majority of group homes, especially those that are organized and run properly, a house manager and coordinator have an office inside the home. The rest of the upper management are located in a central office. Because of their strange organizational setup, staff slack off, constantly run late, provide inadequate care, rarely speak to their coordinator, the houses are unorganized, coordinators don't know their residents like they should, etc. and does BHN care? Absolutely not. They run subpar car, on minimal dollars while completely overworking and overwhelming their poorly chosen staff. Before filling out an application for BHN just think, do I want to work for an organization that doesn't care about me or the people they serve?

Loved my job and helping the clients and other staff. To many higher ups who had no idea how the job is done, they would change procedures constantly. Titles mean everything, VP's even have VPs under them. There were a few employee's that did their job well and never got acknowledge for their efforts but if you played games on your computer or did your shopping and watched  movies your work was given to the hard workers and nothing was said to the non worker. Supervisors had no idea how to be a supervisor and they were usually not there in the building especially during the pandemic, regular workers were there but not them.  The supervisors are the ones that needed to be watched. Corp has no idea what goes on in the facilities, they only show up when there is a photo op or they want to impress the community. Waiting list were long and one minute you can tell the client, then next min once they get state contract were not allowed to tell clients that it could be over a year to receive services. Facility was filthy and no one cared if it was sanitized during Covid or not. If they got rid of half their upper management that came up with ridiculous policy's all the time that usually never worked they would have enough therapist to work with clients. Very toxic work environment, low wages and lack of trained staff. They hear what they want to hear,  I don't usually care for unions but this company definitely needs one to help the workers. 

Terrible management, the culture at BHN Greenfield mimics the movie "mean girls." I have seen staff reprimanded or fired for things that are minor, while staff sleep with and date clients and are promoted and praised. On more than one occasion a staff member has had relationships with clients whom they've met at BHN and although reported to management nothing gets done. The "mean girls club" make for a very uncomfortable work environment because if you report something they have done you will likely be reprimanded and written up. Things I have seen swept under the rug are skin checks not being completed by the intake nurse/RS, staff having relationships with clients(with proof via photos and text messages), staff of the mean girl club taking long breaks of leaving to care for their dogs while other staff get written up when they leave early due to childcare or illness. The list goes on and on. Staff that report this hostile environment have to work with the fear they will be fired for something minor. The positives of the job would be actually feeling like you are helping the clients and the schedule (nurses work 12 hours shifts).  The medical director, Dr. Potee really makes it worth coming to work- she has a positive attitude and has a great vision of really helping the people we serve. It's too bad they couldn't get better management in to change to mean girl culture.

The agency is dedicated to serving the population of individuals with developmental, and, or mental health disabilities. Sadly, the "turn-over" rate of employees (Residential program) is high, for several reasons. Overall, from my experience with this agency, salary, and employee rights/protection may need to be enhanced, for it is limited compared to unionized agencies. In regards to the workplace culture, it can vary from residence to residence. I would note the most enjoyable part of the job is the "customer service" aspect, whereas you help individual obtain their goals or access services to their benefit.The most challenging part of the job for me is when you are on a "team" with an individual who exhibits behavior that eludes to a lack of integrity, self-control, diplomacy (when required), and a basic level of organization. In regards, to management then the hire-fire rate for the Residential program is high, for various reasons as stated above, and there may be some issues with training record keeping.Overall, it's an opportunity to assist another diverse population group and enhance your communication skills.

The times I used to walk in to work at 7:45am to open up the clinic for clients to walk in at 8am. They usually check in for appointments for 7:50am and it will be steady busy starting at that time. I will call those days my typical days at work.

I've had mutiple experience at this job, for instance. I've learned to built a relationship with co-workers as just that (professional) job relations only.

The manager was not to serious about her position, as an just building relationship with certain co-workers. Basically having select preference between us.

Co-workers? Most will be very nice, but most will just try to make me look like a bad worker and try to point out my wrongs, the reason why, was because they were one of the managers preference.

Honestly the harderst part of the job was seeing kids not being themselves. Crying out of control because their parents didnt know how to control them, and when they do they will be extremely drugged up with legal drugs. Which was very sadning to see.

The things I enjoy the most about the job was seeing kids being discharged and no longer taking medication for their "bad behavior".

1. I take care of the residents. I walk with them , I eat with them, and i also apply them with them with their medications, when they are ready to go to sleep i walk them upstairs and make sure they are comfortable in their environment.
2. I have learned to help people who struggle with Alcohol & Drug problems. I have learned that struggling with these problems is a major problem that many people are facing throughout the world and it can be considered as a mental illness that can lead to a fatal ending if not treated carefully. 
3. The management in the place ran very well, and we understood our tasks and did exactly what we were told to do. 
4. My co-workers were outstanding, we will always get work done untied. we will always work together as a team.
5. The hardest part of the job is when the people that we are trying to help repeat the same steps as day one.
6. The most enjoyable part of the job is when they get what recovery is all about and they take a step forward into controlling their lives.

At first it appeared BHN was interested in providing treatment for their clients, however once I started working their (at more than one treatment facility in Greenfield) it was apparent that they were interested in "filling beds" and opening new programs to expand. The problem with opening new programs is that their older ones would be less supported as they expanded their "empire" of treatment. There appears to be alot of turnover and alot of unsatisfied employees as well. Staff is not appreciated, especially by higher ups and our concerns are heard, but not addressed. When concerns for programs and client's well being are presented to management the consensus is to listen to the concern, agree with the concern and vow to mention it to someone higher than them. It appears they are also more preoccupied with billing for services rather than the content and quality of those services. If you want to be supported in your line of work and make a difference in people's lives, I would suggest looking elsewhere for employment.

There is no "typical" day in the mental health field. Each day brings its own challenges and rewards. I have learned to adapt to each situation as is needed to best serve the individuals in the residence. I do enjoy working toward a goal of independence for the individuals I serve and have the wonderful honor of seeing their triumph first hand. Several of the residents have made great strides since the day of my employment and some have moved on to their goal of independent living. The hardest part of the job is seeing someone struggle with addiction, increased symptoms or behavioral issues. Sometimes in this field, we can offer all the tools but ultimately the individual has to be ready. The most enjoyable part of the job is seeing the individual with mental health issues come out of their comfort zone and enjoy a better quality of life. I have great respect for my supervisor and have learned a great deal from him. We do have a great team and work hard to maintain a support system with each other.

many times i would work at nigh so by the time i would get there the clients would have an hour before it was time to shut down. The tv and use of appliances. It then would be time for them to go to sleep after that i would do work on computer. While making round making sure that safety  of our clients came first. Because we would have man and woman sleeping in one room. So we would have to keep a close eye on all clients. Then around 6 am i would start the clean up. Clean the bathroom, Living room, kitchen and more. 7am the other staff for the morning shift would come in and we would share notes of clients and if there was any thing to watch out for. what was the clients story for needing to stay at the living room. For we was not a shelter but very similar on because we would not let one client stay at our location more then 4 to 5 times in a month but ever month the count starts over and they would be able to stay again.

A typical day at work is listening to managers brag about how great the place is but it isn't.  it is a good place to work if you are lazy.  

I learned that  you can get paid for doing no work.  they pay you to sit down and do no work.  

the supervisors are nice but they don't work.  the inmates run the asylum. 

don't work here if you have a work ethic.  no one else does. you don't get trained right because the people who work there are not teachers.  you learn by making a mistake because you did not get trained right.  you will be doing other people's jobs.   a lot of drama and immature staff, it is a toxic place.  it is a daycare center and they don't help anyone.  
don't work here.   there are many other companies. 
this company keeps people sick.
