I’ve been with BHR for almost 4 years, working in a couple of different positions. My first job was entry level and front lines. It was fulfilling but really hard and easy to get burnt out. When I transferred to a different department, I felt supported, seen, and getting completely different level of clinical work. I developed great skills and got licensed, but the cracks of the job and culture are beginning to show and shine. The company is 24/7, which is great for clients, hard on clinicians. Holidays are provided in the PTO package, but not guaranteed you can you take off on the actual holiday. You’re made to feel guilty for taking your holiday time, and compete with your coworkers for that time off. 

With regard to management, my current direct supervisor is very supportive, but our department as a whole is very limited in our freedom to adjust schedules, and hire appropriate staff to meet the needs of the department and client load. The upper management only care about numbers, and they don’t take time to see the impact on clinicians, or listen when confronted by employees or middle management about the concerns. Clinicians are grossly underpaid for the amount of we do, and are expected to do, compared to competitive agencies. Clinicians are constantly pressured to take on more work with out the accompanying pay, making the clinicians feel burnt out, unseen, and under appreciated. 

BHR has seen a lot of change and growth recently, which has been great in terms of being able to hire new people, create new positions, and has allowed many people to be promoted within the company. Overall, this is a wonderful place to work with decent benefits. Due to the recent expansions, sometimes it can feel like you're disposable as an employee with not much clinical supervision or support. However, overall, all the managers, leads and co-workers are typically very friendly and willing to help or answer questions as needed. However, overall, the salary is low given the stress of the job and what is expected. If you're not able to operate in a high stress, changing environment with all types of people, you won't last at BHR. Although, there is plenty of room for advancement, this really isn't a great place for therapists/clinicians long-term if you're looking for further clinical development beyond providing crisis intervention and basic assessment and diagnosis. Opportunities for paid training are very limited with the company only willing to pay for further crisis intervention training. BHR will contribute 40 dollars per week toward licensure supervision.

Working at this company has been one of the most stressful and disappointing experiences of my career. The high turnover rate should have been a red flag, but I initially thought it was due to the demanding nature of the job. Unfortunately, it became clear that poor leadership is the real issue.

The boss is unprofessional, lacks clear communication, and shows little to no support for the team. Instead of providing guidance and solutions during high-stress situations, they are quick to criticize and blame others. Feedback is rarely constructive, and there’s a general atmosphere of fear and uncertainty because you never know when you'll be the next target.

Morale is at an all-time low, and it’s no surprise that people are leaving in droves. New hires rarely last long because the environment is so hostile and chaotic. There’s no real effort to address these issues — instead, management seems content to cycle through employees rather than fix the root of the problem.

If you’re considering applying here, be prepared for constant stress, lack of support, and a toxic work culture. Unless significant changes are made at the leadership level, the high turnover will continue, and the work environment will remain unhealthy.

The staff here is awesome, the leads especially are super nice, managers are super nice. The work itself  can be very challenging but a great learning experience for those looking to work in mental health. You will learn some basic clinical assessment skills, however, I feel that the training provided at this job is good for basic level but not good enough for the type of calls you get. Phone crisis is really for the folks with clinical experience. But HR is almost never consistent and has a lot of turn over. The job itself has a lot of turnover as well, so on weekends and Mondays, there is barely anyone there. You will be answering crisis calls for multiple phonelines, not only 988, so you have to follow protocol for at least 6-8 phone lines. You will be massively overwhelmed and expected to end calls quickly unless there is actually psychiatric concerns. What really breaks the job is the amount of protocols and phone lines you have to answer and the staffing. 

I’ve worked in mental health for many years. Many places were better to work at, a few were worse. But BHR wears the crown for least fun place to work.  It’s robotic, isolating, they really have no idea how to take care of their staff.  If you work there, you’ll get a decent lead crisis counselor to talk to once a week for 15 mins, but otherwise, you’ll be managed by email and protocol call sets and learn through a series of punishments. The place is 100 remote now.  They do pretty much nothing to connect you with coworkers. You’ll have to figure that out on your own.  If you do take a job there, just be ready to be on your own after orientation. This is no way to treat people who are helping callers who are anxious, often having suicidal thoughts and very depressed.  

Ive never done an employment review, but felt it is my ethical duty to take care of this one. 

This job can definitely be stressful at times but if you enjoy working in a fast paced environment with the opportunity for a lot of clinical practice this could be a good fit for you.
A typical day involves taking calls from a variety of mental health and other relevant phone lines and assisting with providing clients in the moment support and linkage to services for long term care.
There is a lot of training on mental illness and on working with people with thoughts of suicide or self-harm.
Some calls or clients can be difficult to process or work with but I have found management to be supportive in providing both clinical assistance and mental health support for myself when needed. 

Since the new CEO took over, the culture at BHR has changed dramatically, leaving frontline employees feeling unsupported and unappreciated. There is a notable lack of validation and encouragement for the hard work they put in. Staff members now feel abandoned and must fend for themselves. A major point of contention is the paid time off (PTO) policy; PTO was taken away without warning, and employees are expected to use their remaining hours to cover missed time, even when the issue is faulty company equipment. Ultimately, the work environment has become so toxic that it's detrimental to mental health, a bitter irony for an organization that is supposed to provide mental health support. The new CEO seems to prioritize public image over the well-being of her own employees.

Behavioral Health Response creates a stressful company culture by focusing more on numbers rather than supporting their employees. Staff is stressed out by the constant turn over, low pay, lack of communication and strict monitoring from management.  The training program they offer to new hires does not adequately prepare them for live calls. Leads do their best to advocate for staff but are often meet with pushback from management. Behavioral Health Response does a great job providing supportive care to the communities it serves, but needs extend that compassion to staff. 

Staff are micro-managed. Supervisors are judgemental. You have to stay late while they review your daily documentation. You are REQUIRED to ask about caller demographics before you can even attempt to build rapport or assess for safety. Their mobile crisis dispatch process is a joke. The mobile crisis team members don't even WANT to go out to people who are experiencing a MH crisis in the community and they have terrible attitudes. Besides like 1 person on the training team, the agency is not trauma informed. Stay away, especially if you are more experienced in the field. You will be shocked at some of their policies and attitudes of management. 

After 6 months I was on the verge of losing my mind. There is no support for the type of calls you encounter. You feel hopeless and like you’re not helping those who need it. This job is very overwhelming and not idea for a new therapist or social worker. I learned a lot here overall but the way they expect you to work is crazy. Also for people of color you’re treated different when it’s time to advance, you don’t get the same advantage as the white people there.
