I have worked here for a while and between the ridiculous amount of work for little to no pay off and the way the company handles residents, it's all a mess.

I have watched many residents come and go, some were great and wanted to move on and get back to their lives. Others would sit around and break all the rules and even harass other residents and make them uncomfortable. The company would stand by and let this happen with no consequences as they would never jeopardize a warm body to fill the bed so they can continue to cash in money from rent, billing, etc.

If at any point you bring your ethical concerns up to management, they will shut you down and retaliate. I have seen multiple people fired for refusing to let go of the ethical concerns, of course the company will always set it up that they were fired over something else.

You will go nowhere in this company, they have so many different positions that come with more work but don't actually pay you more. It's almost like having a gold star badge to differentiate the positions but the person with the badge does 2x the work. They get rid of positions and add them as needed to give the illusion of career progress.

The best part about the job is the PTO, you will be burned out so quickly that you will want to take a few days off, luckily you pretty.much 8 hours of PTO every pay period, along with about 5 hours of sick time. The only problem is that some.management will make you feel guilty about taking the time you earned off. In some cases they will ask you to end your vacation early and come back to work.

Stay away from this dumpster fire of a company, you will be so much better off without all the stress.

I’m honestly at a loss for words when it comes to describing my experience with BHSN, specifically the People Operations Department and the leadership of Social Programs. Goodness what a disappointment! 
Let’s start with the PODepartment quite possibly one of the most unprofessional, disorganized, and tone-deaf department within the organization. The lack of communication is astounding. They operate in complete radio silence until you have to practically beg for a response. And when they do respond, it’s either dismissive or condescending. Forget about getting a straight answer or any type of support. Everything is shrouded in mystery and indifference, as if they're too busy causing chaos to do the job they're supposed to be doing. 

Now, onto Social Program “leaders” if you’re looking for leadership, vision, or even basic competence, this is not the place to find it. It seems completely out of touch with the very social programs they're supposed to oversee. I’ve witnessed firsthand how they continuously make decisions that hurt the people these programs are supposed to help. They either don’t understand the community’s needs or simply don’t care. Their approach to social programs feels more like a resume building exercise for the future than an actual effort to improve North Country people's lives. 
What’s worse is the blatant lack of accountability. The leadership seems to have no qualms about throwing their own team under the bus to cover their own mistakes. This toxic environment starts from the top and trickles down through every layer of the organization. It’s baffling how such ineptitude is tolerated, let alone celebrated. 


I had the privilege of working with Stop Domestic Violence, a company dedicated to preventing domestic violence, and I can confidently say that their commitment to creating a safer society is truly commendable. From the moment I engaged with their services, it was evident that StopDV operates with an unwavering dedication to their mission.

One of the most impressive aspects of StopDV through BHSN is their comprehensive approach to tackling domestic violence. Through educational programs, community outreach, and collaboration with various organizations, they strive to spread awareness and understanding about this critical issue. Their holistic approach aims to address not only the aftermath but also the root causes of domestic violence, empowering individuals to break free from the cycle of abuse. 

The team at StopDV is a group of compassionate professionals, who work tirelessly to offer support and resources to survivors of domestic violence. Their non-judgmental and empathetic approach creates a safe space for victims, empowering them to seek help and regain control over their lives. They’re dedicated to actively engaging with schools, workplaces, and communities to foster an environment where domestic violence is not tolerated and where everyone is encouraged to be an ally in preventing abuse.

Unfortunately, this company is not patient-oriented, rather they push employees to only provide services which can be billed for. There is much hostility in the workplace which created a toxic environment. I would like to think that it’s only been going on for a short time (which is what I have been telling myself), but we all know that there is an underlying cause for the high turnover that BHSN has. Not only is this hostility affecting employees, but it is affecting patients. I, personally, cannot morally support a company which I believe is not patient-oriented. Employees are not given the opportunity to appropriately care for patients; such as things that are not billable, for example. The care that they are wanting us to give to patients is not of any quality and that is reflected when we speak with them over the phone. Roughly, one in five patients tell me how disappointed they are with the care they are receiving, whether it be due to medications not being filled, clinicians “not helping,” no one calling them back, rude staff - the list goes on. I have tried to do what I can to advocate for patients and provide excellent care, but my hands are tied as they have been when I am micromanaged and told the limitations on what I am “allowed” to do for them.

Oh, and if you bring your concerns to management or HR, they will gaslight you and retaliate. 

My experience at this company still haunts me. You can do everything right: show up early, dress professionally, excel at your job, and be compassionate; yet none of it matters because they don’t care about you. 

Just being in the same room where an inappropriate conversation is taking place, even if you’re not involved, can lead to your termination. 

Not only that, my experience felt like a witch trial, where anyone could accuse anyone of anything, and you'd be terminated without question.

Moreover, the company should conduct better background checks on their hires. An organization focused on preventing violence should not employ people who openly discuss using violence in their personal lives. 

Additionally, if there is a policy against giving or exchanging gifts with coworkers, it should be enforced. However, raising this issue with management doesn't offer protection; instead, it makes you someone they view with suspicion, ultimately leading to your termination. There is no room for inquiries, and they will avoid you at all costs. 

You're treated as just another body, easily replaceable. The high turnover rate only makes things worse, as clients suffer when no one stays long enough to gain real experience.  Not to mention, the pay is bad. Ultimately, it is not worth it. It will go on your record. Look elsewhere, for your own sake.

The amount of support you receive working at this company, is the best I have ever received! BHSN cannot read your mind, but if you express concerns/thoughts/idea, you will be heard! Any time I have had concerns they have been addressed, worked through and have helped me grow professionally and as a person. Working here I have gained a second family. The benefits are great (pto, sick, holidays, and more). I have never missed my kiddos doctors appointments, soccer games, parent teacher conference since I have started here. I started at this company 5 months pregnant with baby number 4, and I am thankful every day to be here. If you are looking for a place to help our community and have a desire to grow, then it is BHSN! You will work hard and it is fast paced. BUT, every second of your day you are helping this community or a person in this community. It is exceptionally rewarding to know that my job helps people. And, this company, has big dreams and goals to continue to support our community. All of the upper management, including the CEO (yes we actually get to talk with our CEO here), are passionate about our company, employees, and our goals.

Stop Dv is a great place to work if you are looking to advance in your career and learn people driven skills, along with how to work in a team. The workplace environment is extremely professional  but maintains a friendly and caring atmosphere. I loved working for Stop Dv because of how much support you receive as an employee. If you have a question all you need to do is ask. The Director of Stop plays an  incredibly important role in the workplace environment. There have been times in which I have called her to ask questions at night,  during holidays, and her personal family time. She is always there to help. She works hard at her job and often works during her time off.  She is always coming up with team bonding exercises and planning work events. As well as always coming up with knew ideas to help the program advance and her employees succeed. She understands how to work with people and how to run a department on a deeper than surface level. 

I've worked with BHSN for just about 3 months as a fully remote/virtual clinician. I can say I am very happy in my position. BHSN's compensation is exceptional. 
I get supervision for my clinical hours on a very steady basis (weekly), which is required as a licensed social worker. I also enjoy that BHSN has group supervision. Supervision is structured and allows for great feedback from other knowledgeable clinicians. 
I feel there is a great balance of working independently and getting structure, expectations and supervised tasks. 
Managers or other individuals in leadership roles are approachable (even being fully remote), and are kind. Every person from any department you speak to always welcomes you to reach out at any time. 
One of the biggest things I appreciate about BHSN is all of the programs/services/resources it offers for clients and families. 
One other thing that stood out to me was during orientation, the CEO speaks and presents. He is full of energy and drive, which really got me excited not just to work for BHSN but reminded me of why I got into social work.

​BHSN has been a strong pillar of support in this community for years, and I am grateful for the positive experiences I had during my first tenure there. Unfortunately, my recent experience after rejoining has been disappointing. While my initial time at BHSN was fulfilling, this time around, I’ve faced challenges that have significantly affected my outlook.
I brought a sensitive matter to the attention of the POD team. I was unsure of how to proceed and sought guidance. Unfortunately, the advice I received did not feel supportive or aligned with the professional standards I had come to expect. 

While I’ve heard similar concerns from other employees, I had hoped for a better experience. I believe it’s important for all departments to foster an environment of trust and confidentiality, as this directly impacts both the organization’s reputation and the well-being of its employees. I hope BHSN addresses these concerns to maintain the strong community trust it has built over the years.

I started there several years ago. I loved helping the clients , speaking to them and using nursing knowledge and judgement to give them hope and valuable information about the challenges that they were facing. The nurses interviewed clients on telehealth and on site depending on the situation. I learned a lot about the psychiatric telehealth process.  I really had hopes that I would be able to stay there and continue to make a difference in the clients' lives. Cons of the position was that there was a lot of backbiting there.  People were encouraged to run to  management with disagreements or issues that they had with other employees. Instead of having a discussion with both parties,  management  would listen to the complainer and make decisions in a knee jerk fashion in favor of the employee that had a longer relationship with the manager. Employees were treated unfairly .
