Typical day: 8 hour day / on call weekends.

What I learned: Great connections were made with patients and their families. It was an honor to be a part of their journey. God provided me with an experience of a lifetime, and a calling on my life.

Management: Poor management. Lacks communication skills. Not approachable, unprofessional. 

Company not to be trusted: when going through first week of orientation, make sure to ask as many questions as possible. Especially the costs involved with medical tests and who is responsible for payment of those tests. You could land up in debt before you even start your job.

Workplace culture: Definate changes need to be made as the environment has been toxic to work in especially when people are not team players. One cannot tell from day to day what atmosphere you would be walking into with mood swings that are going on.  Not a healthy environment. There is no respect for others. 

The hardest part of the job: Is working together as a team to build the company with positiveness and not disrespect toward one another, regardless of age. Allowing a hostile environment to exist, even though staff are passionate about their jobs, creating division. Allowing bullying in the workplace.
Management having favoritism - not very healthy.

The most enjoyable part of the job: Waking up in the morning, excited to start your day because you are going to be an inspiration to those who you surround yourself with, especially patient’s and their families, providing them with love, comfort, spiritual presence, joy, prayers. Most of all walking beside the families and carrying them through the bereavement process.


Bella Care calls themselves a family to get away with corporate toxicity. My responsibilities and job description changed 4 months in without warning. More responsibility without more pay. I had a corporate counseling after I questioned my new expected duties (that were outside of my scope) with well educated peers and advocating for myself. I was told to leave my concerns at the family dinner table. 

 I was easily seeing 14 patients some days. Traveling over 150 miles (just caseload, not including on call). No day really felt like hospice care. Patient acuity is very low- that's how they can justify 10 mins spent with each patient as directed by the once clinical director. 

Benefits and pto are the worst I've ever been offered

On call is an animal. If patients are case managed properly, calls/ visits should be minimal. This most certainly was not the case. Patients were often left without comfort medications in crisis situations. Lots of calls. Lots of after hour visits. Poor work-life balance. No opportunity to flex your time, you have 12 patients to see the next day. 

I stayed for the patients. But over time, the inexperienced clique in the office and the demands regarding patient care for patients they'd never met became too much. There was only one way to manage patients according to office admin. 

Ultimately, I left. But later found out I was terminated after working my notice? When you aren't complacent, I guess. 


What is the best part of working at the company?
Working at Bella Care Hospice has been a rewarding and meaningful experience. The organization truly prioritizes patient-centered care while also supporting employees in delivering high-quality hospice services. Leadership emphasizes compliance, compassion, and teamwork, creating an environment where staff feel valued and empowered to make a difference.

Bella Care is an excellent workplace for individuals who are passionate about hospice care, value teamwork, and want to contribute to an organization dedicated to dignity and excellence at end of life. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
All jobs have stress, but I can honestly say, I have a great team to assist me with anything if I am feeling stressed. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Strong collaboration and teamwork. Positive environment with a team that builds each other up and helps whenever needed.

Management would promise you one thing and do the opposite. A lot of disrespect and gossiping by management. EVERYONE from my original crew either left or got fired so not sure about the new crew. The previous DON and Director got fired and the current DON used to be the nurse case manager. On Call was crazy, Caseload even worse due to lack of staff. The part that is the hardest is that they expect you to do admissions of new patients at 4-4.30pm and then work the rest of the night for no compensation when the nurse on call should have been the one to handle the admission but because she would have had to be paid for doing it, the admission fell on the Case Manager because she is salaried and that's how they get away with it. This company will try to take short cuts on patient care to save a buck and pressure the nurse to admit patients who are not appropriate for hospice to boost the census. Unless the current management team has changed the culture of the office I would recommend that you run away from this one.

The hardest part about writing the view is the fact I have to describe this company in past tense. The environment is unmatched. In all my years of healthcare I’ve never worked for a company that cared about it’s employees to the level Bella does. From my first day I knew who the executive director and CEO of the company were. They personally introduced themselves to me and from there on would check on me as well as my fellow employees. They have outings for employees all the time. In my time there we went to top golf, had Christmas parties yearly with 1000s of dollars in door prizes(65” tvs, iPads, air fryers, etc). If you earn employee of the year they let you choose a a destination for you and a spouse and pay for it. During Covid we receive free lunches daily and they made sure to continuously monitor our mental well being. You also get yearly retention bonuses from year one on. I am going to miss everyone here and hope on my new adventure I can find a company that’s even half as rewarding as it has been working here.

Bella Care Hospice Independence location is the absolute most poorly organized hospice organization I have witnessed to date.  Office management is proven to be incapable of exectuting the duties needed to run a smooth operation and for this reason nurses quickly burn out and the turn over is tremendous.  You're expected to work territories from Akron to far west side in and hour's notice and have patients added to your schedule same day.  Needless to say the wear and tear on your vehicle is great.  When you reach burn out, you're expected to give a THIRTY DAY NOTICE or you will be paid minimum wage on your last pay and have. none of your  earned PTO paid out.  I most certainly do not recommend this hospice for any nurse who has extensive hospice experience and expect a positive experience with this hospice.

Being able to bring guidance, hope and comfort to pts and families 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Change in management and focus which led to deterioration of team unity and upholding the hospice philosophy.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Wonderful in the beginning.  Great supportive leadership, team unity and feeling of value to the team.  Drastic changes came after new leadership took over. Resulting in a hostile work environment, ex micro-managing w/o guidance, direction or education, clicky, lack of integrity, unprofessional and favoritism

I joined this company 18 months ago as an RN case manager. The team of professionals I work with are amazing. Working in hospice  can be challenging but extremely rewarding.  In all my years as a nurse, I have never worked for a company that does so much to encourage you and make you feel appreciated. My managers from the beginning took a vested interest in me and were patient as I learned a new role. Fellow nurses were there to provide friendship and support. I recently  joined the office team  and again am grateful for the ongoing support of my team as I continue to grow professionally. Especially now,  I get to see  on a larger scale how so many of our staff going above and beyond every single day to bring comfort and healing to patients and their families. I am blessed to be part of this company . 

Co- workers, field staff, were great to work with and all worked together as a team to enhance the quality of life when all aggressive tx and medical options no longer offered the highest quality of life for the individual.  Communication with each other was wonderful, teamwork was wonderful. Response time never a question. Mainly worked with facilities and pts within, rarely pts in their homes.  Small company, very different from larger hospice companies in Greater Cincinnati.

First GM was great, and had created the growth of another local hospice; however, with a small hospice, there were 'friendships and influence.'  People lost jobs, people moved up in management and people were eliminated and hired depending on who knew who.  The atmosphere changed completely.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Work with great people.  The ED at the Columbus office is a kind and compassionate person.  She is great to work for.  

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Same as any Hospice company. Patient deaths.
Driving seems like a lot some times but it is part of the job.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I work with a great team.  The environment can be stressful depending on how busy we are and staffing. The company in general is caring.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I see up to 8 patients per day but my average is 4.  I may have to adjust my day depending on needs.  It is very important to be flexible.
