Bigge Crane and Rigging

Bigge has been a blessing for me and my family. Since I've started with the company it's been nothing but a great experience. I've been extremely fortunate to work with and learn from a great team/department as I had no prior experience with cranes. Management on our team has been exceptional and they've afforded me the opportunity to grow with the company. They lead by example and I can certainly appreciate that. I enjoy the culture because everyone is approachable, helpful, and insightful. Their company luncheons and giveaways are pretty cool. They use it as an opportunity to be more transparent about the company and not many do that type of stuff. The toughest part of the job is the amount of work there can be. It sometimes feels like you clock in and not too long after it's lunch time or time to go home. The best part of the job is having the opportunity to work and grow with a company that's as ambitious as Bigge. Compensation is fair considering the amount of overtime you get. I truly believe some people live there. I say that as a joke. Can't wait to see what the future has in store for this company.

Bigge had a great work environment. But several years ago, things started to get unpleasant for employees which now resulted in ongoing high turn over rate. The change came from the executive level and affects all departments. Highly talented people got laid off because of politics, other talented people left the company to work at a better place.

Most coworkers are nice but increasing pressure and competition make it sometimes hard to help more than what is needed. You are measured in reviews by subjective measures, no real metrics or goals that show the employees contribution. 

Department goals show only upper management's weakness in providing achievable goals and work environment stability. Almost daily changing directions and ever increasing work load make it hard to standout and are frustrating and tiring.

Your rock star effort is expected and not appreciated.

Bigge in Bloomington has good coworkers. However, management is something completely different they don't  have no great communication amongst each other let alone with the employees. Long hours ok pay however, they also cut hours at times. Pluse management has their preferred people. I have worked their 2 years no advancement. The worst part is that I got interviewed to become a tech after 3 months of employment and never happened. They also layoff big group at a time of people. I made de cut twice but never progressed in all reality I belive it is do to me being of mexican ethnicbackground. The thing in this company it really feels you need to be caucasian ethnicity to move up and its not an exaggerating. So I had to leave and look for better opportunities. 

Used, abused and then tossed if you can’t hang in there. There were many times I’d work day shift and then go cover night shift at another job for days. Longest time in a crane was 5straight days. Money amazing but if you have a family it will become immensely difficult. Dispatch will determine how much you make, if you aren’t one to kiss a** then you may struggle a little. If you refuse a job (you worked all day and they want you to work night shift) the dispatch will act like you never helped him before and stop calling you. My advice, still go to Bigge if you want to make money, but if you can’t work 85-100hrs a week then walk. About the same hrs as the oil field if you’re a good operator. You will get used and abused 100%. If you can’t operate then obviously you won’t work much

Loved a lot of aspects about the job. Co-workers were great and the management trusted their employees enough to have us work without too much oversight. The day to day challenges of covering all the work and balancing the wants of customers, the demands of the sales team, and the requirements of the union hands made everyday interesting. Working in operations gave an excellent overview of handling the issues that come up in a fast paced work driven environment. Overall, the job isn't for everyone, but if you can handle the stress and the occasional maniac work schedule, its a great place to work.

I had some very good co-workers at the organization that I was able to learn a lot from and build a relationship with that has continued even though I  no longer work there. Management needs some work. They are very slow to take action on anyone in a manager or above position when non-managers make complaints. It is almost like if you are not a manager, you are automatically deemed an unreliable source of information when in fact,  a manager's direct reports are the best people to be able to tell you how a manager treats others because we are the only ones working directly with them day in and day out. Going to the HR Director is not a lot of help. He talks down to people and acts like he is superior to anyone below him. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
It's hard to get on their rotation. They have their favorite operators that they keep busy. And will only use new hires when they absolutely need to.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Calling their dispatch every day trying to get sent out on a job. They string you along so that you won't go work for anyone else and you will be available if they need you.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Good company to work for if you can get steady work out of them. Very safety conscious

Getting paid and working with a few good guys

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not knowing if you are going to work the next day and running equipment that should be out of service

Management is horrible . They don’t know  what goes on in the field and the salesmen don’t know cranes either

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Not knowing if the crane they put you on is going to break down on you or your job will be canceled

High turn over rate, upper management still trying to figure out why with survey's etc. Look in the mirror there you see the problem.

Highly talented and productive people get worn out with no work/life balance. People not agreeing with management will be driven or kicked out at the next opportunity.

Environment is more about cooperation than collaboration and very stressful and frustrating. Everyone fending for themselves. No team and support especially in IT dept.

Cool people that work there but the company overall is a joke. They lie to from the very beginning don’t buy the stuff about we are a family here cause it’s not like that. You will never make good money with them and never know when you might have a job. If you ain’t buddy buddy with people then you are a target. This place literally reminds me of high school. Bunch of grown men acting like little school girls. Trust me when I say keep looking for a different job don’t waste your time like I did I was with this company for years
