After a year and a half of working for Bio-Techne I can confidently say that there is no formal training or trainer, most paperwork is outdated, machines used for diagnostic testing are questionable at best and management needs a refresher on how to manage and prioritize instead of picking favorites based on how long you've been at the company. While the job itself is not hard to do it's the lack of support and consistency that makes it difficult to thrive. The best part about working for Bio-Techne would be the production workers out back who are often looked down upon by management and get paid less than everyone else in the building despite being the only ones who know how to fill product and run the machines. They are so kind and treat you like family. Another pro to this company is something called the Ark Program where they employee disabled folks. Other than that, this place should just be a steppingstone, so take what you can and move onto something better. Oh, and instead of a pizza party they do steamed hotdogs.

There is a big disconnect between upper management and lower management and the average employee. The biggest benefit was the flexibility I had with my schedule. Pay raises were not big enough to keep up with inflation and living expense increases. Low level internal promotions are pretty common, but there is a regular turnover at the supervisor and manager level because the pay is not competitive. So the end result is Bio-Techne loses most of its talent to other companies and then tries to buy them back at the director level and above. Also, HR has way more power than they should and essentially does what they want, when they want. They do not take input from supervisors or managers, and when there have been layoffs, supervisors and managers are not included in the discussion and are told who to let go. 
They are ultimately a cheap company that you will outgrow, but may give you some experience to help you get a better position somewhere else.

Bio-Techne is a growing company. You will definitely learn a lot. However, if you're looking for some place to uplift you and help you advance, you're definitely not going to like working for this company long term. Their expectation is that you better just be good or you're out. Either you have it or you don't. And they have said this verbatim. I will specifically say that this is the Finance department in Minneapolis. There's no real guidance and the managers scold their subordinates rather give professional feedback and expect you to grow after putting you down. They judge everyone. It might be due to their young and new management team with 0 actual experience in management. They just hold the titles making them pompous. Favoritism at its best. A very toxic workplace. Join with caution.

Management/HR do not value employees or know how to relate to them as people first, employees second. Very old school, male heavy executive leadership with limited skills in connecting/empowering employees rather than controlling them. The deficits in employee respect are reflected in salaries, benefits and wfh policy. It also effects the quality of employees they attract. Keep looking for a company that, during Covid, has expanded employee benefits , offer remote/wfh options with reimbursement for setting up a home office and internet, and unlimited PTO based on work flow. These are the forward thinking companies that truly respect employees as people first, employees second, trust employees to autonomously complete their work and reward those who produce. 

Company appears strong at first glance, but is an unorganized mess.
Production is expected to work 12+ hours a day for unrealistic sales orders numbers.
Benefits are bare bones minimum; only gives health, dental and and PTO. Other benefits are subscription based and are subtracted from your pay.
Shift differential was eliminated in favor of a higher base pay.
Management will refuse to move you to a different department if space is available and requested.
Company will deny you FMLA and unemployment benefits.
Management does not listen to concerns about site maintenance or product quality.

I cannot in good faith recommend this company. I have never once gotten a straight answer from anyone and had been verbally denigrated over egregious issues while serious issues were left unattended.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The culture is amazing and they support growth and listen to what your interests are and where you would like to take your career. Work life balance is also a huge plus. Really makes you want to work harder when the company cares about you. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not too many things I have encountered that’s are overly stressful. Any job comes with stress, it’s just how it is. But the team environment here helps out a lot with being stressed. Everyone is willing to jump in to help.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Get your tasks done and enjoy life outside of work.

As a lab tech, I was responsible for working with a team of scientists developing high quality immunoassay products. I assisted with completing assay or equipment validations, writing/reviewing standard operating procedures (SOP’s), summarizing assay, validation results into final spreadsheets and writing reports. I also, had responsibilities to perform screening and validation of antibodies for assays. Other duties included feasibility, product development, validation, and technical support of immunoassays. I performed additional duties as assigned by my superiors. This jobs required an attention not only to detail, but also to safety and technique. It was a unique experience and showed me the levels to which science can rise when separate talents are united.

It's a field sales rep role, and overall it's a solid place to work. The team is supportive, collaborative, and genuinely enjoyable to work with, which makes a big difference day to day. The products have a strong reputation, deliver real value to customers, and are relatively easy to stand behind from a sales perspective. That said, the biggest drawback is the limited career growth. Advancement opportunities are scarce, and there isn't a clear path for progression into more senior commercial, leadership, or strategic roles. If you're looking for stability and a good team environment, it's a great fit, but it may not be the best place for someone focused on long-term career development and upward mobility.

Yearly raises are unreasonably low for a company making record-setting growth quarter after quarter. There's a constant push to get more out of employees for less investment.

Infrastructure (software support, ordering system, SOP submission) is highly inefficient for a company this well-established and lucrative.

Most company-facing individuals are professional and helpful and do well with what they have.

Management is highly variable: you may get lucky and have great culture.

What you learned: How to be more of a self-starter.

Management: Upper management seems more worried about their own agenda/looking good than making sure people below them are doing well.

Workplace culture: The culture is good in certain departments that are cared for but it's honestly a mixed bag. The culture doesn't seem the same across the company from what I observed.

The hardest part of the job: Managing your own workload, which never gets any better

The most enjoyable part of the job: Going home
