It's a debt collection firm with a focus on individual credit card accounts; the supply of the financially illiterate consumer is essentially inexhaustible, and contract law is clear: failure to pay is a civil offense and the state will enforce that contract through the courts. 
o	They do promote from within, sometimes, but "new" employees can only advance if they are in the Naperville or Wheeling HQ.

o	No upward mobility. If you don't work in the HQ in Wheeling or nearby Naperville, not even a lateral move is possible. Being skimpy on staff means several people in the same office can and do work in different aspects of different departments at varying intervals. This is extremely advantageous for management b/c productivity is very high per worker. Of course, the employee is only paid for the work done in one assigned department, ignoring the productivity (thus dollar-value) contributed to other departments, keeping wages artificially low. Employees are discouraged from learning "too much" about a different department. Rationale for this is unclear, but serves to supplement work in other departments without requiring the hiring of additional staff, and not compensating current staff for doing extra work.  “Jumping ship” to a different department is difficult if an employee has only limited experience in that department, and management doesn’t generally encourage or support exploration into different areas.

o	Turnover is horrendous for non-manager positions. I have overheard conversations where managers discussed the concept of "this is a big company, and people will leave" like it's nothing remarkable.  There was a company email recently announcing that 6 (or more) attorneys were leaving the firm at the same time. Turnover is not viewed as a problem.  Every month, between 5-10 non-manager employees leave or are terminated.  Attorneys leave at a lower rate, but 6 at once is not a sign of confidence.

o	There is a tremendous amount of work, and it's never over.  Employees (at least non-manager) never really "complete" any task or have a work product to show. It's a constant conveyor belt of lawsuits.  If this is not a lawsuit factory, I don't know what is. The work is also very, very repetitive, and carpel-tunnel is never far from my mind.

o	Stratification of pay and recognition. It is clear that this company pays its partners, long-time attorneys and managers very well.  The other 225 people in the company are left to fight over the scraps.  When the partners brag in newsletters and internal emails about "the greatest month ever" and employees are rewarded with a $10 lunch, it's insulting. Everyone works hard, and everyone is appreciated, but not all appreciation translates into better compensation. 

o	Creativity and open and honest communication are not encouraged, in keeping with the culture of stratification

I left a good paying job at a reputable company because I thought this would be a better opportunity. I was wrong.

Although, I liked majority of the people in my office, getting anything done through the corporate office was like pulling wisdom teeth. I understand things happen. But communication is key in everything.

The company is also huge on incentive. They want you to figure things out for yourself. That's why they created so many "how-to" guides. But what they fail to realize is some people need a little extra help.

I thought the training was decent. I liked the people who trained. But their demeanor was not always appreciated. Getting a hold of them was tough sometimes. They tried to be available but they can only do so much when they're the only resource people go to. Maybe they were being stretched too thin too. I'm not sure.

I didn't have the best experience with them but that doesn't mean you will too. Everybody has a different perspective.

This is a great place for aspiring legal professionals who have an interest in debt collection. If you are a college graduate considering law school, this is a great place to get hands on experience in the legal field. If you are a GED holder, this is a great place to explore your strength and interest in the field of financial services, and the work at B&G will give you an idea of what you want to pursue in the future (e.g., higher ed, trade school). The biannual review is very structured. You always hear feedback from both coworkers and managers. Partners sometimes bring their dogs to work and they are super cute. Objectively, the pay isn't high, and it's probably not enough to sustain a family if you are an older professional with a family. However, if you are open to learning and don't mind being paid a bit less during the early stage of your career, I'd say go for it. 

Managers stick together, they take their anger out on their employees, don’t allow you to have a proper lunch break, they cheat on their tests (logging into fellow coworkers computers and taking tests so they can pass) no communication. No happiness, work till you are ready to cry, deadlines are rushed, mistakes constantly made. Half of the staff is either slow or doesn’t care one bit. Not understanding about health or family issues. So much work you dont have time to use the restroom. People are either sarcastic or fake nice and talk bad about each other. Managers gossip about other departments or flat out cursing in meetings to make a point. Breaking rules constantly so they can look good in front of higher management. One of the partners is sarcastic and will speak nasty things straight to your face. Inappropriate comments made. Good work is not rewarded, 15 to 20 cent pay raise only, so many more bad things! Save yourself the sanity! 

When I first started at the company, I thought it was great.... until I started hearing and seeing how disrespected employees were being treated along with how the Partners lined their pockets with money but not giving bonuses where they should be going..... to the grunts who actually do the job they are benefiting from!!!!
There is an employee in Data Management who comes in stoned and drunk, yet everyone looks the other way (rumors say that she and a partner and another higher up had inappropriate relations at a Bears game.)
The partners make innapropriate comments all the time towards employees and nothing is ever done.  
The turnover rate at that company is so high.... even the old HR person couldn't wait to high tail it out of there!!!!

Extremely high turnover rate, and I can tell you why. Very little training, maybe 2 weeks or possibly 3 of training and it’s very minimal. There is excessive micromanaging - you might as well keep track of how long / how many times you went to the bathroom . Benefits are not great. Work load is not equal to the pay. Terrible- work life balance - and they will give zero accommodations. Favorites constantly on the phone on social media and they won’t say anything but if you get up to use the bathroom or take a break, it’s an issue. By far the worst employer I’ve ever worked for. Someone quit in the middle of the day due to the toxic environment and I can definitely see why. Trust me it’s not a place you want to work at!

I was well trained in litigation and learning about the basics of the litigation process.  It was very clickish and snobby there.  High turnover probably contributes to that...didn't have a great relationship with the management.  I didn't see any chance that I would be able to advance or that my salary would go up anytime soon.  I don't think management had much confidence in me as an employee.  The law firm I am at now believes in me and pays me much better and gives me more opportunities for professional growth.  I am grateful for the training I received at Blitt & Gaines though.  I just didn't like the culture.

This place. 1st of on the outset, great place to work. Some of the people you work with are amazing. 

Management though, they keep tabs on you if you rub them the wrong way. Literally like they keep a secret file about then use it against you later. You can do something in in January and they'll bring it up in December. Thats the accounting manager. Him and the controller have a retaliatory behavior that shouldn't exist in a Law Firm. 

They will make things up about you or lie to either get you to quit or fire you. The executives don't even investigate and the HR department is as worthless as a wet paper towel while trying to dry your hands.

It  is a good place to get solid, hands-on experience as an associate attorney. Especially in the Courtroom. The pace is fast and you’re trusted with real work early on, which helps you learn quickly. The team is professional and knows what they’re doing, and it’s a good fit if you’re motivated and can work independently. Because the workload is high, expectations aren’t always totally clear, and new hires are expected to hit the ground running. Overall, it’s a good experience for attorneys who can handle a busy caseload.

This is a company who harasses poor people on behalf of some of the largest banks/companies in America - that should tell you everything you need to know about the type of ownership this company has (and the type of company culture they create).

Deep nepotism, non-existent H.R. that will always side with specific managers that have ownerships favor.

They will give you minor training on your role and then overwork you constantly

I would strongly recommend considering any other options available first.
