A typical day in the pharmacy for me consist of practicing patient care above all else.  Delivering narcotics to the floors when they are stocked out in the acudose.  Making sure medication orders are filled  and delivered to the floors in a timely manner.  Assisting nurses with their questions when they call.  Monthly completion of "Floor Inspections" assigned to me.  Assist with making IV's, Chemotherapy, and TPN's for patients.  Restocking medications in the pharmacy and assist in ordering them. Packaging and compounding any medications needed.  Working directly with Pharmacists when necessary.  All of my co-workers are great and work as a team.  

The Pharmacy Operations Manager/supervisor is virtually invisible and cannot fill in in any position of the pharmacy, she is unable to  make out a work schedule, can only be contacted by cell phone for calls outside the office,does not return phone calls in a timely manner and at times does not return them at all. She will ask who is this when she does call back.  She is confrontational and will confront you in front of new employee's for situations that should be handled in a private manner. She will sometimes compare you to other employees if you come to her with a situation that someone else has gone through. You cannot go to her in confidence about a problem that may arise with another co-worker, as she will address the problem but let the co-worker know who made the complaint.  

The hardest part of the job is not enough associates to get the jobs done in a timely manner, not having  management both department and upper management listen or acknowledge that there are any problems.

The most enjoyable part of the job is getting to know the people I interact with each day and the appreciation we show for each other. I also get a lot of satisfaction when I know that a patient has been helped by our efforts both in the pharmacy and the rest of the hospital.    

I worked at blount memorial a couple times. Both times I worked in different departments but both departments seem to have the same problem…..shady management. This company seems to hire friends/family for upper management regardless of qualifications and these people stay in these positions for a lifetime and never leave. I was victim/witness to countless illegal/discriminationatory/bullying instances by the upper management. The company has potential to be a successful company but cannot reach that goal unless they completely overhaul administration and management. The culture here is purely cut throat money making. The hospital treats staff horribly. I expected to fired at any moment even during orientation. I went to work feeling like that every single day. Heaven forbid you want to switch positions or departments(that is seen as a personal insult). If you complain or report anything you are an immediate target. If you are injured at work….start applying for other jobs, your days are numbered. I reported a patient injury caused by another employee and was punished even though I was in the right. Patients should be first but this hospital and their management/administration believes in profits/hospital first! Patients and employees are considered VERY replaceable and are NOT valued. I work at another hospital and the culture is soo different here like night and day! I would never be a nurse for this hospital again and I have forbidden my daughter to be a nurse here. I take my family members elsewhere for care! 

Blount Memorial Hospital is the second biggest employer in Blount County.  With that you would think the pay would be average to above average, but it is not.  For a fast pace, high stress position such as patient access they only start you out at $9.00 an hour.  There are some wonderful people that work for Blount Memorial Hospital so this is by no means a reflection of all individuals there.  However, my particular department has the worst management I have ever worked with.  My supervisor and her supervisor are very unprofessional, try to manage on emotions, and do not keep all employee information confidential.  There have been many employees try to contact the upper management with complaints and instances, but to no avail.  I enjoy my job there & I am good at it. But I feel my particular supervisor is beyond unqualified and unprofessional.  This is not a personal vendetta as I have not had a personal, bad confrontation with her myself.  This is from observance of her treatment to other employees. The CEO came to one of our meetings to give us a "pep" talk.  In that talk he stated that Blount Memorial doesn't need us, we need them.  If we do not like our jobs to go elsewhere.

The training process was great--lots of observation, then being observed, then I was on my own. I still have lots of questions (it's been less than a year, I'm not fully trained) but my supervisor is friendly, approachable, and explains things clearly. 
The company is broke. I'm not sure why, maybe they can't manage money, I won't assume. They keep taking positions away from my team and giving us extra work because they're cutting positions from other teams as well... but the work still has to get done so there's a ton of extra strain on the remaining people. We all have tasks to do in addition to the main function but we don't have time to do them because, as I said, we're short a few people already. 
We're not allowed vacation. Before I'd started working there, I made commitments out of town. I was upfront about them when I started and the supervisor didn't indicate an issue. When I made the formal request for time off (unpaid because I don't accrue PTO or Sick), I was told I'm not allowed consecutive days off because "we need you here", so I had to commute several hours every single day. 
The pay is far below what it should be, given the area and job tasks, and the added bonus that we're all expected to fit 16 hours of work into an 8-hour shift, so insurance for a single person, no dependents, costs a third of the total take-home... before taxes. I can't afford to work there.

CNAs/PCTs, if you are seeking employment at Blount Memorial Hospital (BMH), I strongly encourage you to read my review here before proceeding with your employment application. I speak for myself and many other CNAs & PCTs who've repeatedly encountered the same experiences. 
I worked as a full-time CNA. The nature of being a hospital nursing assistant is highly stressful. Unfortunately though, the long-standing poor working conditions at BMH notably worsen that stress. 
There are roughly 30 patients on each floor of the hospital. Due to long-standing staffing shortages at BMH, most shifts you will be the only CNA/PCT on the floor, and assigned to 15 of those ~30 patients on a floor. This was actually the case for me every shift. Even with occasional assistance from the overworked nurses, 15 patients is too many to document charting on and keep a watchful eye on. You are never guaranteed to work on your home floor. The staffing office will frequently pull you to work on other floors and/or to sit with patients. You never know where nor who you will be working with. 
If you don't mind the constant change in work environment and coworkers and being responsible for 15 patients, this may be a decent fit for you.

A typical day for me would be to cook for the patients and visitors to the hospital. 
1st off, the job description in the interview was NOT what I actually ended up doing. I was hired for the atrium cafe and they stuck me in the cook unit downstairs instead, How is that even ok to do?
2nd, the people in that kitchen are OVERWORKED and UNDERPAID for the sheer amount of work that is put on them. Overtime was forced with threats of being fired. Not cool Blount Memorial!!
3rd, the other cooks were given whatever schedule they requested but even when I asked for a day off 30 DAYS IN ADVANCE, it was not given to me because of the favoritism. 
4th, MANAGEMENT in the cafeteria is terrible!!! When you would go to them with any concerns, you would be either ignored, or placated. 
5th, Harassment happened daily for myself in that place. I tried to tell someone to get it to stop and I WAS IGNORED!
I am a great worker and I like to work but this was the most terrible place I have ever encountered. The only reason I gave them 2 stars on the pay/benefits section is because the benefits are decent. Pay sucked. I strongly suggest that if you are considering work there to RECONSIDER and spend a day in the atrium speaking to employees about how they like it there.

Typical work days start at 7am with surgical cut times varying between 7:30 and 8am. The surgeons and co-workers that I have been blessed to get to know and work beside have all been wonderful with sharing knowledge and assisting me, even if I do not specifically ask for help. I enjoy working with a team but I have been proven as a capable employee and have gotten the opportunity to fully run an OR without the assistance of another surgical tech. Duties include, room turn over (cleaning, disposing of soiled instruments, setting up anesthesia as well as my own supplies), ensuring that following cases are pulled and ready to be opened, helping the nurse and anesthesia with moving and positioning the patient, being aware of patient safety that is laid forth by my institution as well as the adhere to National Patient Safety Goals. The hardest part of my job is rising early. It sounds so trivial I know but even after almost seven years of getting up early, I still find myself struggling.

This was an opportunity that was provided by Maryville College and Blount Memorial to work with doctors, nurses, administrators, and patience at the local hospital. It was a two semester commitment where the students spent time learning from hospital staff the different fields and specialties that focused on geriatrics.
In the following semester, the students had the opportunity to follow patients to their homes and work with them on health coaching. Making sure that the patients took their medication, followed doctors orders, helped them around the house, and made sure the patients followed up with their doctors visits. 
The goal was to keep the patients from returning to the hospital.
For many, the program was a complete success and the patients wanted to continue to see the students; for others it was a complete failure and the students were unable to help the patient follow the program. 
It was success for the students, no matter what the learning outcome was.

Cliques everywhere, the facility’s struggles to keep any employees, and people are rewarded only for longevity in spite of their work ethic. Management will never listen to complaints, and favoritism is rampant. You will never get a truthful answer from your superiors who prefer to string you along in hopes you won’t quit, and when you do quit the brunt of your work is given to 1 other person because they’re incapable of planning ahead. I’ve never seen a more toxic work culture. The only saving graces are that sometimes your immediate overhead supervisor is amazing, and that the benefits are... adequate, if you don’t have anything too serious to hospitalize you, that is if they don’t change the cost of your copays every year like they always do. The copay for a doctors visit went from free to 20 dollars and the insurance increased as well. All in all, terrible company and I would not recommend it to anyone.

Learned to not trust management. Its now what you know but who you know. Sends patients home too early and puts them in harms way by not having enough home care staff to care for them. The hardest part of the job is lack of support from management when requested, Not being supported to provide best care to home care patients just productive care. Typical day prep from home at 8AM but not get home till 6 or 7PM then finish charting because there is no way to complete charting between or at each home. Home Care Management has never worked with charting programs in the home and just add more documentation without time. So average is 14 to 16 hour day and to make productivity must be off clock. Only paid Holidays Christmas and Thanksgiving  but you must work them to get paid or paid time and a half.
