First warning sign: This employer does not use proper verification methods for obtaining I-9 documentation. There is no protection of your information other than their saying it's secure. 

2nd/3rd warning signs: lots of seasoned agents leaving the company over a short period of time & extremely understaffed because of this.

Incomplete and ineffective training. Extremely disorganized and when there's a problem with their systems, management will try to make it seem like you're the problem. Every manager will tell you a different answer to the same questions. Nobody really seems to know anything beyond the seasoned agents, and they've been leaving in droves. Also, management is sensitive to criticism/feedback.

As far as the actual job, not difficult when things work. Their chat system is completely broken. Management will tell you one thing about how the metrics and systems work, and acknowledge there's issues, but yet you're still held to their metrics. They'll tell you that you have 30-40 seconds to accept a chat. More like 20-25. If you don't accept within 10 seconds it'll flash red at you even though management says it's not supposed to. That'd be acceptable if it didn't affect metrics, but it does in a negative way. Email system broken, chats broken, phones good luck maintaining a positive friendly tone while you work for a company that doesn't seem to care.

Management refuses to understand that all they're really doing is creating more work for their agents, rather than actually fixing the issues.
Not a single thing is done with a coordinated well thought out plan, they just throw things out there and see what works and what doesn't. They spend a lot of time at the drawing board.

Also they have you keeping track of your scheduled work day through a excel spreadsheet rather than using scheduling system. Your days will never have consistent break times or lunch times. You will experience days that are heavily imbalanced in your workload and expectations never seem to be consistent.

A typical day of work consist of running the assembly line and hitting our goals. The assembly line consists numerous of workers putting items in boxes for approbate menus, closing, and palletizing the boxes. This job doesn't take any skills so technically anyone can do. I come to realize that this is a dead end job because there is nothing to learn and no room to improve. Even if a person want to learn, spaces are limited. For example, to be certified for machinery such as forklift or  auto bagging is almost impossible except for the few because the company don't want to give people a raise.

Management is a joke. They're not serious about their work. And the company is relatively large, they don't know who did what. At the end of the day they only look at hitting numbers and if the number are met, they usually congratulate themselves and their friends. If otherwise, they point fingers at everyone else. Despite being a good worker, I was written up several times just because I was not liked, so I ended up at the end of the receiving stick.

Some co-workers are really ghetto, nevertheless hard workers. However, due to geographic of the facility, which located in Richmond, employers treat everyone like children and potential criminals with daily random searches and restriction to cell phones, we are also being scanned by the metal detector as we entered the building.

I must say the hardest part of the job is not the work itself,  but rather dealing with typical bureaucratic douchebaggery of power hungry  managements and security guards. Also it is very undignified to be treated like potential criminals and children. So the most enjoyable part of the job is when you found a better job or when it was time to leave--clocked out and go home where you can be yourself again.

My Team was amazing and my supervisor was so helpful and supportive, however, this company has many flaws. Training from the beginning was missing many needed details and the disconnect from the class before to the class after me was astounding. It seems we were all taught different things, and considering we were working from home, it was hard to get the correct answers. Even some of the training currently has absolutely no meaning. They are too busy pushing out new merch and can't keep up with demand.  Nearly every call is an escalated customer. There is always something wrong, carrier issues, packaging issues, problems with product, etc. Their Metrics are too harsh considering all the issues they have going on right now. They are trying to fix "problems" but the issues they bring up are not ones to be of main concern. CX is tired and stressed and they can't keep an employee. Even the ones that have stayed for over a year don't feel appreciated and talk about finding new employment. They say everyone has an opportunity for growth but it seems the ones who really deserve it aren't given the chance. The smallest things can prevent you from advancing.

I will say the work is not hard at all, it's the stress from all the issues and angry customers that will drive you insane. Plus making sure you are meeting or exceeding their high expectations in metrics while stressed and dealing with yelling people...less to be desired. 

Company hires anybody for a position other people have worked and waited so long for. The new people don't care about the product that they produce and break the machines. When we come in for our shifts, we have to fix everything the other shift did and on top of that we have to do our production too. We get no recognition for any of it. Both shifts get paid the same, even though we have to leave all the machines clean and ready for the other shifts to use, but when we get there everything is disgusting. There are lazy people they keep and they are hiring some more. We have to compensate for all the production the lazy people don't do AND WE GET PAID THE SAME.
Management doesn't care about any of it.
They want us to be sanitation, operators, technicians, and specialists, all with a little raise we got about a year ago. I've given up on this company. I used to care everyday I got to work, now I just come in do what I can and I leave and let them worry about the other "operators" breaking the machines.
For breaks, we get two 25min breaks and one 30min lunch. They breathe down our backs to get back to work on time, even though management works for an hr and the rest of the day they're just walking around in the lunch room but they get paid salary so they can take a whole 12hr break and they still get paid.
They keep hiring supervisors and managers, but they keep cutting our hours. How does that makes sense in a company that's all about production? Idk. Unless management themselves can run the machines and go pack some boxes.

I've worked for Blue Apron for almost on two months. Honesty, when I started as a runner, I took great attention in detail. The tasks that were expected of me included replenishing the work stations with bags, various fresh foods, food prepping items, and anything else that made the table worker's experience easier. In the beginning, the work experience at Blue Apron was tolerable. As time went on, and I became subject to a lot of unwanted attention. At this point is where I seen how unprofessional this companies managers and supervisors carried themselves, and also the companies core values. There were too many personal grudges between workers (including myself) and supervisors, and many times they even were fueled by race and other non-work related ignorance. I experienced a bit of it all with a few of the morning shift red jackets (supervisors). In closing, I unfortunately caught a virus, and was directed by HR and management not to return until all symptoms cleared due to company policy. I was later terminated while in recovery. Sadly, I predicted the company to act in this manner prior to it happening. Also, I was promised a free Blue Apron meal box during my entry that I never received, and I was promised 13/hr for my position that I also never received, and later was unrightfully terminated.

Blue Apron moved its operations from Brooklyn to Jersey City, NJ in 2014. They do mass group interviews and orientations. HR is continually hiring/firing and there are about 1,500 hourly workers. The most enjoyable part of the job was the opportunity to creatively use my organizational skills as the new location was established.  The hardest part of the job was the continual interruptions by hourly staff that has no buffer to access the HR office. It was also a very cramped and unattractive work environment.  

Management focuses on 24-hour production of its boxed food packages and the staff is 90% uneducated hourly workers that are completely dispensable.  HR office is overcrowded, with management staff and administrative staff squeezed into a very small office where only the 2 managers have personal workstations. Coworkers are pleasant, but very stressed and communication is essential as there are many moving parts going all at once.  

Overall, the operation is disorganized and the work environment is overcrowded for both administrative and hourly staff.  If you are a very organized person who is used to having their own desk, you would not be comfortable at Blue Apron.

It's a physically gruelling job in a cold environment. Advancement as a company is stalled by the fact that there isn't a line of communication between depts concerning issues, so problems often aren't fixed and upper management is left unaware. For ex, the time clocks don't work n make u late trying to find the 1 clock that works that day.Lately they fire solely based on attendance and not work ethic..The good workers seem to get fired for being absent cuz they r too tired doing others work yet they keep the lazy n high people that walk off the pack line all day and do nothin as long as they show up. A lot of supervisors only speak to associates when doing something wrong or for write ups instead of giving compliments. They would have more productivity if they gave workers incentive to work harder, but currently u get paid the same regardless of how much work is done daily. The 12hr shifts are not good for those taking public transit as u only get 5 hrs sleep on a good night. HR is never open during pm shift or weekends. The Jersey city location was better in the certain ways. They don't provide free lunch like jc  did.The new pack changes leave more room for error and less room for advancement in the company. It was a decent place to work, now it's just a paycheck.

The company itself is a great place to work but at this specific location it isn't. The first couple of weeks have been very unorganized. I couldn't find my group on my first day, there was no real tour or training. You're constantly asking questions about how to do your job and where things are which is very annoying for me personally. At the same time, it's a learning process everyday which is also nice because you're gaining more knowledge about the job which can give you a chance to advance within the company. It's nice if you need a good paying full-time job, but it can get overwhelming and tiring if you're not use to a warehouse environment; especially and refrigerated one. Work/life balance is difficult depending on your shift. My main issue is the miscommunication between supervisors/management/other departments and the associates which can be frustrating when all you want to do is your job. What keeps me working here is the pay and benefits. The attitude and moral at this location can ruin a person's day which can be a hit or miss for some people.

Overall I love/enjoy working for Blue Apron for the most part. It feels great to be apart of a company that care about their business, customers and employees. On the flipside...from my experience HR should really reevaluate the promotion/hiring of specialist, management, and etc. So far I have witness specialist being very rude, unprofessional, personal, non discreet, and abusing their authority. Management should really send the specialist/leads etc to training on how to be a better person overall because as of today those kind of leaders will bring the company down more worst then the hostile work environment they have already create. Anyway I can only voice my opinion on the specialist I worked for...two (Jason & Andre) are awesome, firm, and fair. but the current one (she) need home and work ethics training. She also needs to learn how to speak properly and with some sort of professionalism. Advance training on safety and cleanliness may help her become a better leader.

The cold there dumb point system they constantly change your hours very short notice an it’s mandatory it’s a who you know job to move up

It’s cold ( freezer) a lot of standing around before your production line gets going competitive an the culture is mixed you have some employees that been there years thinking there better than new employees unwilling to teach but I experienced great coworkers like family majority tho are nice 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Get to work at 2pm clock in smock up go to your Designated production lines an stand around doing nothing waiting for them to get it set up then 20 plus minutes later you start two hrs pass 15 min break 😂 an that starts once you walk off the line it takes 3 mins to get out the building before you can finish your cigarette you in to be in your spot at that time told repeat then lunch feels like you’re in the military scarf it down back to work then push you to work faster lots of Delays not your fault but they still expect you to meet their quota
