What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Getting Director to support new supervisor to staff. Support supervisor in instituting new procedures which would increase professional performance in addition to having staff reigniting of the Director position.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Nursing staff struggles with being recognized for their worth. Clinical staff act as if Nursing staff are unable to assess. Nursing staff needs to be included in group facilitation as well if holding credentials to do so. Nursing can discharge and conduct discharge plans. Clinical staff are given this responsibility and nurses are left out of this except to follow plan done by the counselors.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Supervision of staff performance as nurses, overseeing nursing assessments, documentation, med administration, making sure weekly med inventories are done, making sure staff coverage fir each shift is in place, staff scheduling, client interaction and keeping individual therapist aware of information given by clients, supervising staff in usage of medical equipment and if not used properly or if faulty, teaching is done or new equipment is ordered. Supervising admissions and making sure protocols are in place. Making sure if clients show need of medical interventions, the proper transport is in place. Serve as the lab director and make sure all staff are testing potential clients for Covid, urine drug screens for drugs and/or alcohol, for pregnancy, for TB and BAC levels and follow through with proper procedures.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Scheduling flexibility. They always gave me the time off i requested. Good learning experience for my career. Was able to work with minimal supervision.
Was able to choose my working hours.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Sometimes it was a toxic work environment. Management did not use my abilities to the fullest. No room for advancement.  Felt uncomfortable, underappreciated and undervalued. The leadership was not responsive to my needs and ignored my requests to make it a better work environment.  This created a hostile work environment.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
There were lots of personal dramas which made the work environment toxic. Management did not respect or listen to your needs to make it a better work environment. I felt that my ideas to make it a more efficient work environment were often ignored.  Management did not seem open to innovative suggestions.


What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I would show up at work and some coworkers would show up late more days than not. Nobody seemed to care how that affected work morale except for people that had already quit. There was no accountability. I tried to concentrate on my work and it was difficult because of all the noise around me. People would talk about their personal drama more often than not. This made it difficult to concentrate with the task at hand.

BRBH has a reputation for chewing up and spitting out employees within the mental health field and it was something that I wished that I had listened to before signing up.
The job is stressful, to begin with.  Clients or their families are going to be mad at you by default.  With dwindling financial resources to be able to help them, I don't see this changing anytime soon.  

Upper management is constantly barraging case managers with productivity reports and late paperwork and hounding people about losing money due to paybacks.  

Other departments and employees are usually rude and passive-aggressive.  Many times case managers are asked to do the work of other departments, such as scheduling appointments for clients.

Don't expect much support from immediate supervisors, because they will throw you under the bus if they have to.  

Benefits are ok if you're just covering yourself.  Beyond that, you probably won't be able to afford it ($1,200 per month for a family).

There are major changes that need to take place, and unfortunately, many of those changes are out of BRBH's control.

Do yourself and your mental wellbeing a favor and take a pass here.

I worked with BRBH for 7 years. I started as a mental health case manager, transitioned to supervisor, ACT case management and therapist. Blue Ridge was extremely structured and provided ethical services to clients. The compensation is what is to be expected for community mental health, however, I had many opportunities to advance my career and education. I ended my time at the agency with my LCSW. Blue Ridge leadership pushed and inspired me to advance my clinical skills with a person centered approach. I met lifelong mentors and connections that continue to be supportive though I am no longer with this agency. I was able to complete my masters internship with BRBH while working full time. The supervision was free and flexible. I would encourage anyone who is seeking to grow in the behavioral health field to work with this agency. 

I like the flexible schedule and have an amazing Manager. Our team works well together. However, there is no incentive to do a good job. There are no merit or performance based raises and all that doing a good job gets you is more work. Oftentimes, due to this lack of motivation, you have to clean up the paperwork of people who are burned out and are just there to clock in and clock out - understandably. Recently there has been a change in management that has made it so that there is even more of a lack of care. They advertised that this was a work from home position, but then, due to pressure from upper management, there are mandatory in office days, even when you have proven your ability to do well. These days you are told not to work with clients, which I thought was our job. Also, upper management will insult and degrade any efforts at change, mainly because they benefit from the current system. I love my job, mai ny because I have a great team and immediate levels of management, but it is becoming unsustainable.

Very Poor Supervisors-  supervisors are not good communicators.  They sit in their offices and do not engage with employees.  Supervisors are not clear communicators to employees of their expectations.  Employees are fearful of being fired and are afraid of the whims of their employers.  Supervisors do not offer help during stressful work loads but create more stress with making more demands.  Supervisors shift blame for their decisions to employees to protect their jobs.  Supervisors are sarcastic, rude and unprofessional in their interaction with employees.  Supervisors are the poorest and most rude of all I have worked with my entire career.  Supervisors deliberately target people to fire when they have someone else they want to bring on board.  Worst work experience of my career.  Working with clients was enjoyable but Blue Ridge primarily is interested in revenue rather than outcomes.

This job has incredibly high turnover and is short staffed most of the time. The high turnover makes things very difficult for existing staff and clients. Paperwork requirements change regularly and are very strict. There doesn't seem to be a caseload cap so you may have upward of 60 clients. High case loads and rigid paperwork requirements that are subject to change at any time make this job almost impossible to do well all the time. It's a constant struggle to keep your head above water with no thanks from anyone in upper management. The supervisors will sometimes do what they can for morale but you mainly rely on encouragement from your coworkers. The wages are barely enough for a single adult to live on. You do not get sick pay or holiday pay you are required to use your PTO on holidays that they assign and for any sick time. Turnover is high due to difficulties in being successful for an extended period of time. 

This place is filled with good intentioned, helping people who really do their best for clients. The work in itself is rewarding, but the documentation requirements/required billable hours and MAJOR BURN OUT is a lot. There is a lack of support for staff for the secondary trauma and mental toll.  Middle management is relatively powerless and there is a lot of micromanaging. Coworkers are awesome, and are the reason I stay as long as I do. PTO sucks, even after they changed the policy. Many people work two jobs as all hourly employees make $16-$23 TOPS. No merit raises, I got a 5 cent annual raise last year. Budgets being cut by the government and there is whispering of layoffs coming. Turn over is insane. I would not recommend to a friend, but I would recommend for an entry level college grad or resident. They require many positions to get certifications-but make you pay for them.
