Working at Boulder Care has been a truly rewarding experience for me as a Peer Support Specialist. One of the standout aspects of my role is the emphasis on lived experience; I feel genuinely heard and valued as someone in recovery. Boulder’s approach is not a one-size-fits-all model for drug treatment or recovery, which allows us to tailor support to meet the unique needs of each patient. The virtual platform that Boulder offers is incredibly beneficial, breaking down barriers to treatment such as transportation and childcare issues. This flexibility makes it easier for individuals to balance their work and personal lives while accessing the support they need. I have had the privilege of supporting many patients on their recovery journeys, and it’s been fulfilling to see their progress and growth. I truly love my job and appreciate Boulder’s commitment to promoting work-life balance. This focus allows me to effectively support my patients while also taking care of my own well-being. Overall, Boulder Care is an exceptional place to work, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to make a meaningful impact in the lives of others while being part of a supportive and understanding team.

Coming from a background of workplace trauma, I was honestly nervous about starting somewhere new. Gradually over time at Boulder Care, those fears started to fade. Everyone — from upper management to my fellow Peer Support Specialists have been welcoming, supportive, and encouraging in a way I’ve never experienced before.What stands out most is how Boulder Care truly meets people where they’re at — not just with our patients, but with staff as well. There’s a real understanding here that self-care isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity. We are encouraged to take care of ourselves so we can show up fully for the people we serve. The culture prioritizes balance, compassion, and respect for each person’s journey.The leadership team, including our director and supervisors, are incredibly insightful and approachable. They lead with empathy, offer constructive guidance, and genuinely want to see everyone succeed. I also appreciate how practical and employee-friendly the benefits are — PTO is flexible, the work-from-home setup is ideal, and there’s room to adjust your schedule when needed.Boulder Care isn’t just a workplace — it’s a healthy, safe, and empowering environment where people are treated like human beings first. I feel valued here, both for the work I do and for who I am.


What is the best part of working at the company?
The company for three years matched their mission unlike any place I’ve worked. There was an incredible work culture that centered the patients and staff alike. I then had the most toxic manager I’ve ever had in my career. They not only clearly did not care about the patients but also were controlling and power tripping towards the team they managed . When leadership and HR was made aware they enabled the behavior far too long, allowed retaliation, and for this person to destroy the department. The culture was incredible, and something to be proud of, and they’ve unfortunately lost the way. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
A leadership that has not had the skills to maintain the culture and emotional safety of the employees as the company grows. They’ve been hiring more corporate instead of people whose heart is in it like they used too. The growing pains have lost a lot of quality employees. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The actions do not match the mission any more. They allow retaliation and toxic people to stay in leadership longterm regardless of many complaints. It creates a culture of fear and dysfunction. And is especially hard being in a remote environment because it allows a toxic manager to isolate their employees in the dysfunction.

Working at Boulder Care has honestly been one of the best career experiences I’ve had. The people here are smart, driven, and also just kind. You can tell everyone cares about the mission, and that makes the work feel meaningful instead of like just another job. Remote work has been a huge plus for me, and the company does a good job making sure you still feel connected even though we’re not in an office together.

Boulder's harm reduction approach is inspiring and it’s exciting to be part of a team that’s pushing the industry forward. I’ve learned a lot here, specifically about evidence based care. The work keeps me busy and feels challenging but in a good way, and at the end of the day I feel like what I’m doing has an impact on real patients and communities. 

I have weekly 1:1s with my manager + weekly team meetings. We use Slack to communicate internally so getting quick responses to questions that come up during the day is super easy. Also, my responsibilities are crystal clear. If I have questions I can ask and get clarification but I enjoy the autonomy of my role and feel like I'm trusted to get the job done without being micromanaged. 

Boulder Care is a fully online telehealth clinic that treats opioid addiction. It's a very moving and inspiring experience to work at a company that thinks very deep and hard about patients who are seeking treatment for addiction. This condition has been stigmatized for many decades. Those who struggle are often deemed to be criminals or defective. To work with so many smart and passionate people--many of whom are themselves in recovery--believe that people with addiction deserve better care makes Boulder a great place to work. Like any start up or young company there is always a lot of work to do and a lot of infrastructure and systems to build. That is a challenge and not a fit for everyone, but it does create an intellectually stimulating environment that requires a lot of problem solving and creative thinking. Boulder is a great place to work if that's your vibe. 

I have worked as an RN at Boulder Care for almost three years and I have nothing but positive things to say about this place. The culture is unmatched- everyone I work with (both within my team and from other teams) is so friendly, flexible, and willing to help. Leadership is transparent, communicative, and willing to work with you. Unlike other healthcare organizations I've worked for, feedback is welcome and new/innovative ideas are embraced. We are constantly changing, growing, and improving in a positive way and our patients and their needs remain our top priority. I feel well-compensated for the work that I do and I am happy with the work-life balance that this job has given me. I learn so much from the people and patients that I work with every day and I feel incredibly fulfilled and grateful to work here. I could not recommend Boulder more!

For three and a half years, I waited for the other shoe to drop, but it never did.

I'm consistently moved by how well the business and culture of Boulder align with my own values. The care model focuses on evidence-based medicine, harm reduction, and human-centered addiction care -- and you can feel those values across every part of the culture. Folks at every level and across every part of the company operate with compassion, authenticity, and an incredible dedication to the company's mission. 

A growing company -- especially in the rapidly changing healthcare landscape -- will always require some flexibility and building-as-you-go. However, for anyone interested in thinking creatively and partnering with curious and kind  colleagues to solve one of the biggest healthcare challenges in the US:  I can't imagine a better place to learn, grow, and collaborate towards building something meaningful.

Mental Health resources are an integral part of succeeding in recovery. Many if not all patients have dual diagnoses and require management of both substance use and mental health concerns. This company only provides peer counselors (PC) and Care Advocates (CA) at this time for patient support. There is a great need to hire MH providers and counselors especially due to the COVID19 restrictions and increasing infection rates. Patients are unable to schedule and attend visits thus the reason of telehealth platform popularity.

From the top to the bottom, the staff are truly interested in supporting their patients  with kindness and empathy. As long as their is  communication and proper planning to make sure patients are cared for, you can handle personal business during the day. They are big on the employees making sure to do the things they need to take care of themselves both physically and mentally which is why they say they have unlimited PTO. From scheduling and planning does need to be put in place but there is not a cap on the amount of days you're able to take in a calendar year.
