Working in Med Surg as RN or CNA, you are sometimes floated to long term care or gero-psych units, which personally, felt unsafe. Reasons why most people leave. Regular staff gets floated and travel nurses don’t, which is unfair. You will be most likely get cancelled first before a travel nurse. Patient load is acceptable, average is 5 or below, but during busy season, it can go up to 6-7. Health insurance is through Cigna which is good. The morale of the the environment can vary, depending on who’s the the current acute care manager, and the shift environment can be toxic or pleasant depending on who’s the supervisor. Overall, I would rate my experience as 3/5. It’s a good stable job but you will eventually get tired of the conditions and seek employment elsewhere. 

As a CNA we are there to assist the residents of the hospital with any daily care or activities they may need assistance with. We are constantly learning about the medical and mental conditions of the people we assist and how we can care for them in the best way possible. This job requires everyone to work as a team to be the most efficient and give the best quality of care. The hardest part of the job is being time efficient in our work. We have so much work to do in so little time, but these people become your family and you want to be kind and socialize with them and not be rushing your time with them. The most enjoyable part of this job is knowing how important you are to these people. The little things we do every day, they can no longer do for themselves and some completely rely on you to be there for them.

Poor management. If you don’t fit into their clique, regardless of your nursing skills you will not last. Pay is pretty low to deal with constant nagging and emails to why you didn’t do this or that during your shift. (Things not related to patients) for example computer training. Night shift House supervisors gossip too much and do nothing let alone supervise! They will not get up to an IV, call light, pretty sure a patient could be coding and they wouldn’t help. Be prepared to be canceled frequently! I was full-time and sometimes would have less than part time hours on my check. I thought this would be a place to grow with and further my nursing skills. Unfortunately due to lack of professionalism by the manager and favoritism that is shockingly obvious, it’s not worth it!

A typical day at work is a stress free zone with safe ratios, an environment where you have time to be with your patients, provide excellent care, and have seamless teamwork between CNA’s, RNs, supervisors, and Doctors. A management that is always there for you anytime you need them. They have a great NAP and new grad mentoring that fosters a great learning experience. Monthly education to help stay up to date. The hardest part of the job is if there is a call off it you may need to float to another department however you are cross trained in other departments before being floated. The most enjoyable part of the job is your team they become family!

Ir was rewarding working with the different departments in the hospital, the varied problems each department had and problem solving.
Enjoyed marketing in the Las Vegas/ Henderson/Boulder City communities meeting all people, physicians, giving educational seminars and building PR and referrals to increase hospital revenue.

Accepted this position knowing that practices were outdated. I enjoyed all the work challenges especially bringing the department up to standard industry practices and being involved in the Revenue Cycle. Many projects seemed tireless but always appreciated. I also enjoyed working on the community aspect. Community means a great deal to me and I loved volunteering.

You are treated with respect and organization  does not practice age discrimination and value knowledge and experience that comes with years of practice.

Just the initial HR onboarding.

Very nice caring environment.

Busy....work in Outpatient Surgery Unit.

I enjoy the responsibility and challenges Boulder City Hospital has for my professional life. We help an abundance amount of patients for the better of their health, leadership is extremely supportive, and the overall team showcases a strong suit of teamwork. I couldn’t be happier anywhere else and I look forward to continue my growth at Boulder City Hospital.

The hospital has qualified skilled staff which provide many services to local and surrounding communities. The staff are friendly and the hospital is clean. I find my job challenging as there are constant changes in order to maintain regulation requirements. It is a safe place to work and I recommend it to others. This is a Non-Profit Hospital.

The hospital is not a place for a nurse to advance. They play favoritism in every department. They all gossip about each other.  Management there is cut throat. They have people working like someone is always watching them. Patient care is not to par but will pass if need be. Teamwork is just a word never accounted for. If you are looking to retire or slow paced as a nurse then this is the place for you.
