A typical day at work would be coming in to listen to phone messages and reading and returning emails and phone messages. Each day could vary depending upon what might be urgent so you have to be capable of stopping one task and starting another and then coming back to that original task. You could be preparing responses to written discovery, preparing exhibits to pleading, setting up depositions, and trial notebooks. You could be gathering documents reviewing them or producing them. You might be creating or maintaining privilege charts or be performing daily file maintenance on your case load.

Coming from a hospitality background to legal field I have learned everything I know today and that I'm able to adapt and learn in any situation to succed.

I only have wonderful things to say about management I will truly miss them. Management gets to know you and treat you like family one amazing experience.

My fellow co-workers will be missed they were essential to my success and I enjoyed working and getting to know all of them. I could count on any of them when I was faced with a deadline that I needed assistance.

The hardest part of my job was my very last day when I was being let go because of workforce reduction.

The most enjoyable and rewarding part of my job I have to say was everything. I've learned so much while I was apart of this wonderful family and will miss everyone and everything our office did to make it possible to make each of us so successful in our daily tasks.

I don’t know what was worse: the mind numbing drudgery of the repetitive work itself, or the soul  crushing experience of working for people who have zero interest in anything other than themselves and their own advancement. There is no mentoring, no camaraderie, no team spirit. The job I interviewed for bore no resemblance to the job I actually did. I was not hired to be a discovery paralegal, yet that is the job I ended up doing. I was specifically asked in my interview, whether or not, I had any interest in answering discovery, and I answered, honestly, that I did not. So I was told I would not be doing discovery work.  Once I got hired, I was assigned nothing but discovery responses.  I worked until midnight several times a week, and then had nothing to do the rest of the week. But I was still expected to maintain an unreasonable amount of billable hours. The pay  does not make up for the lack of work/life balance, the lack of challenging work (as a discovery paralegal, you’re basically cutting and pasting answers from other discovery responses, fill in the blank, no need to think but the volume of work is overwhelming) or the lack of quality relationships with your bosses and colleagues.  Leaving this job was one of the best decisions I ever made, and one of the happiest days of my entire working life!

If you want hands on practical experience preparing product liability cases for Fortune 500 clients - that you will have direct contact and interaction with-- B&B is for you. The Los Angeles office (Gardena) serves plenty of high profile car, motorcycle, ATVs and medical device clients - and the firm really is a TRIAL firm. Settlements happen-- but every case is treated like its going to trial and cases are worked up that way. Routinely received cases that a client transferred from other firms to B&B so as to ensure proper trial work up-- a compliment to the quality of B&B's trial talent, attention to detail, reasonable pricing and results. Decent work life balance in terms of billable expectations. Lower pay than firms in downtown LA- but the trade off is the real life you get to enjoy outside of the office. LA office is more of a male culture-- no female partners to my knowledge, but this may have changed. The other offices have a greater female presence in leadership. Enjoyed working there.. left when a client asked me to join them in-house.

Great opportunity to  learning many disciplines.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The middle management was a punchline.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Doubletalk, no direction, say one thing and do another. From the start the tenured employees in the department all complained about the manager.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Attempt to accomplish work and get hand slapped for trying.

High turnover rate of attorneys in the Los Angeles office. Other offices offer better benefits/compensation and opportunitiy. Good opportunity for trial experience and working on high-exposure cases. Some very demanding partners that do not offer much positive reinforcement. Long term employment/enjoyment largely depends on the partners you work for. Not a good work/family balance, and expectation is to put work over family. Overall, it is a good experience but can be a very difficult/demanding place to work.

Great management, pay seemed a little low when considering you need to bill 1800 hours a year as a paralegal. That's more hours than most associate attorneys are required at other large Mpls firms. Plus you do attorney level work. Benefits are great and great PTO plans; bonuses based on longevity are great, plus profit sharing. It can be quite stressful however and can get hard if your are traveling away from your family to the middle of nowhere country for a three week trial.

Don’t be fooled by what you’re told at your interview. The group interview does not reflect what you will actually be doing once you’ve been hired. This place seemed so friendly and so invested in the success of its employees when I interviewed, it was like a bucket of ice water in the face when I started, and it was like night and day. No collaboration, no mentoring, no encouragement, and no reliable workload.  Cannot stress enough how fake and phony and disingenuous this firm is!.

The staff the worked the hardest were always treated the worst. There is zero room for advancement unless you want to be an attorney. Training is basically non-existent and you are expected to figure everything out on your own. Issues are rarely acknowledged and the benefits are minimal at best. Management cares only about pleasing the highest-level attorney and very little about any lower-level employees.

This firm is a pretty standard law firm environment. Management is based in Minneapolis. The hardest part was getting there, as it is in South Austin, and meeting the expectations of the various attorneys.  The enjoyable part was seeing the positive change in the attorneys from their previous law firm. The office manager is awesome.

I learned how to be a Records Clerk and a Receptionist with on the job training. I have meet some wonder people over my years working at Bowman and Brooke LLP. I was excited for it to finally work more electronically and not use so much paper. The hardest part of my job was transitioning from paper files to electronic because there was not as much work as I was hoping to have.
