Braemar Assisted Living

Wellness unit and memory care unit are understaffed on the daily. No appreciation is shown towards the staff that stay and work 16 hour days pretty much daily. Supervising staff are poor leaders and are nasty, rude and disrespectful towards staff. No time to take breaks even though we are docked for them. Constantly worried about being used as a scapegoat by supervisors and administration. Health benefits are horrible and expensive. Holiday benefits are only paid to employees if you put in for them on the ADP website. If you request your holiday pay even a day late, they are denied and not paid. There are a few people there who actually care about the employees but the company as a whole, does not value their staff, and it shows terribly. The PTO offer is impossible to take advantage of because staffing is so poor. People are constantly calling out and staff get mandated on the daily. The lpn supervisor has a questionable history that is visible online and on social media.The free meals are a joke for healthcare staff. It is an extremely small portion compared to what the workers in the kitchen recieve. Often times you will see kitchen staff leaving with bags of food. The building is aesthetically but is built like cheap furniture from IKEA.   Over all, it us unfair to the people that pay top dollar to live there. I could go on and on..

The administration is terrifyingly incompetent, and do nothing to help their employees that are being harassed and being treated like garbage by coworkers / other departments / family members. 

Since the day it was open until the writing of this review, Braemar has been through THREE administrators that were either fired or left because they couldn't fix this mess of a company. 

They are also currently being investigated by the Department of Health for many violations including, but not limited to, billing families / medicare for services not being rendered to their residents, and missing / unaccounted for medication. They have also been heavily fined, and are currently facing upwards from three lawsuits due to deaths or injuries from negligence.

Unless you want to be an accessory to over 200 counts of negligence, I suggest never applying here. Ever.

A lot of weird rules, always a chance for a little OT. 
The pay is really good for an HHA. They hand pick who they want to premote to med tech which is ok I guess because you can't accually use that certification elsewhere. Unfortunately they have too many patients that belong in a nursing home and/or could really benefit from using a hoyer lift which the facility has none of so the chances of putting your back out assisting some residents to bed are 2x as likely. Not only that, but it makes for a higher chance of a fall when transferring the individual to and from bed, the toilet or shower. Every decision the facility makes is money driven. Sadly, even administration is crapped on. Last I was aware, the social workers were supposed to be the go between for residents and their families. Any time I've brought an issue to social work that i felt the family should be aware of, i get asked, did you bring it to the nursing supervisor instead if making a note of it and going from there. Other than that its not a bad job. Most of the residents are really good people, the others are either confused or just down right miserable. (Typical nursing setting) the building is one of the nicest facilities I've ever worked in. There are a lot of amenities for the people who live there. All in all its a job, and it pays the bills.

Maximum stress level an entire shift. Management does not care about their residents or workers. The Department of Health is aware of the situation and is in and out constantly. With no disrespect to the residents it should be renamed Braemar Psychiatric Center. Many residents who are not of sound mind are left unattended for long periods of time and try to escape out of the unlocked doors. The poor receptionist has to greet guests, answer multiple phone lines, act as personal secretary to manage-ment, patrol the doors so a resident can't escape and watch 3 television monitors (security guard) all at the same time for that whopping $11.10 they pay an hour. A receptionist, a secretary, and a security guard - 3 jobs - one lousy salary. And did I mention that you don't get your 2 fifteen minute breaks which is required by law. I had to beg management to let me use the rest room before I soiled myself. I would not only recommend not working there, I would NEVER consider putting one of my loved ones there.

Management expects the receptionist to answer the phones, greet visitors, direct all incoming traffic such as new residents, vendors, new employment personnel etc, sort mail, act as a personal secretary to management, act as a security guard and watch all tv cameras to ensure a resident doesn't get out of the building, keep the residents happy by distributing their cigarettes and handing out petty cash. So you are a RECEPTIONIST, SECURITY GUARD AND A PERSONAL SECRETARY all for MINIMUM WAGE!!!  Management does not want to hear any complaints, if they do, you are terminated. Residents call crying because their food was not brought to them in their rooms when they are sick, laundry is always getting lost, their medicine was not given or given incorrectly. The ONLY nice thing about that place is how it looks. I WOULD NEVER PUT A FAMILY MEMBER IN THAT PLACE!!

A Typical day at this work place would be productive yet slow. The work is very hands on. Therefore I have learned how to be very productive and a fast learner from my past experience at this job. The hardest part about this job was juggling my work life and home life and also being able to maintain such a hard days work and being underpaid for the job. The management was not very hands on. It was a go with the flow type of job and or day. I for the most part enjoyed the clients and my co--workers and being able to converse with them about and or how the work day affected us at the end of the day in a uplifting way.

The residents were nice. Many nice families

Administration. Always looking for someone to place blame on. Makes it very stressful and you have to feel like you're walking on egg shells

Hostile at times. Anxiety provoking

Busy. Always trying to make up for the lack of help from administration

What is the best part of working at the company?
Good staffing levels. Had decent management don't know about now. The pay is horrible for the amount of work u do. No weekends off. No overtime if you need it. Nice size kitchen though and free food.

The jobs not really stressful at all.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Everybody's friendly and works hard for the most part.

You scrub pots and pans, do dishes, maybe prep a little. Stock basic bs.

Making the days of lonely people brighter.

Being accused of things that I didn't do.

You better watch your back. The place is loaded with snitches who will throw you under the bus for little or no reason.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
After clocking in make room visits, then help with daily activities, take residents on trips, get blamed for something I didn't do.

Overworked,underpaid,short staffed,management with attitudes,residents quality of care lacks,mandated daily, have med techs trained by an RN with maybe 15 hours of training to dispense meds”scary”!!! Hardly any training or orientation to learn the ins and outs, expected to do the job of management because they are too lazy to do themselves
Would not recommend anyone with a good conscience to work here.
