This review is specifically for the Application Consultant/Clinical Specialist job in Brainlab:

This is a great company for a recent graduate as the training is very intense and condensed. You acquire a lot of field experience within a short time in several different fields. After a year of running around feeling like you are always trying to catch up, you have a good understanding of your job and things are "easier". The reality is that it really doesnt slow down, the job becomes repetitive and its just easier to handle. There are not a lot of opportunities to grow within the company and the company does not invest in their workers to grow. Managers will say differently and point out to specific people that have advanced, but these are people that have waited 3-6 years on a promotion. These promotions do not come up so often. 

If you are interested in R&D and creating products, this is not the company for it, at least not in the US. The company HQ is in Germany and all the R&D and product management is done there. It feels like at the time that Germany imposes things on the US market. Although feedback from the US is taken into account, rarely you can see it in new products.

Brainlab products are cutting edge. They are great products and surgeons are always in awe of what they do. Brainlab tries to have products that emulate Apple at times. R&D engineers from Germany put a lot of time and love into these products. 

Company culture is great, everyone is very supportive, benefits are AWESOME for field employees. However, it is a lot of work at times. A lot of traveling.

Again, a great first job if you are looking to break in the medical device field, but would consider getting out 2-3 years into the job for better opportunities.

In terms of medical device companies, Brainlab is a young, small company but a major player in it's field. The company culture is great, and work-life balance is usually respected. The products are also exciting to stand behind. There are two problems with this company. The first is a relatively low pay compared to peers (though the benefits are good). This means a high turnover and a lot of inexperienced employees at the lower positions. The second is the solitary nature of the Application Consultant position. You rarely see your coworkers and may be at a different location every day. 

The clinical specialist position is dedicated clinical support for a single hospital. This includes covering cases, training, promoting new products, and otherwise helping the customer gain proficiency in their new product. 

What I have learned is that the skill in performing this job well is not in knowledge of the product, but being very skilled in interacting with so many different personalities and positions within the hospital. The most enjoyable part of the job is seeing the product used to make surgery easier and more efficient, and thus improving patient outcomes (even though the patient doesn't know it).

BrainLAB is a small-medium company with the worst of both roles. Too small to provide reasonable advancement too large to adapt to the changing times. 

Some highlights:
BrainLAB uses an outdated paper only expensing process which requires you mail the original copies to the US HQ.
BrainLAB documentation frequently has significant errors which the company claims cannot be amended.
BrainLAB provides no educational benefits, even when continuing education would help employees meet job requirements these requests are denied.
BrainLAB routinely fails to pay employees earned bonuses and offers no assurances bonus pay will be timely.

I recommend only taking a position in the Sales or Marketing departments as these have lucrative bonus incentives. All other departments suffer from employee shortages where extra unpaid work is demanded. There is a reason why this company does not pay hourly like it's competitors. 

This company is just a sales branch of the german company. It's only function is sales and repair. Advancement is limited, management is abysmal, employees are constantly leaving so things are very unstable most of the time, and upward advancement means less and less work life balance. Compensation is extremely low, with most of the commission not going to engineers, but to sales and upper management. Company also severely mistreats it's employees, and did not provide any PPE for employees working in the operating room/in surgery during the pandemic. This company also almost exclusively hires a very young workforce, mostly fresh out of college, because they're much easier to take advantage of, in terms of work/life balance and forcing them to work weekends.

•	Establish and maintain positive working relationships with Technical Consultants, Customization Engineers, and Clinical Application Specialists. Participate in reinventing AJC products to meet the changing needs of the print and online audience.
•	Create and update a daily summary that shows installation performance and results and that offers suggestions and possible project improvements.
•	Organize installation schedules, working with consultant and vendors.
•	Organize and conduct project handover to Clinical Application Specialist.
•	Document all service activities to comply with regulatory and safety guidelines.
•	Track shipments: check inventory, track backorder lists and evaluate missing or damaged parts immediately, organize delivery.

Brainlab has amazing technology and a vision for the future of the company, however, they lack structure and direction from region to region within the US. Managers are often unprepared for the job and new employees come in with little to no experience since they prefer to hire new talent straight out of college. This can affect team morale because senior members are constantly picking up the slack of new hires. Overall, I enjoyed working for Brainlab but view it as a great first job and not a long-term career company.

I love what I do and have enjoyed managing and operating Brain Lab Marketing. Marketing is my forte and with today's technology, it's what I live and breathe 24/7. Collaborating with different disciplines to bring a marketing strategy to life is the favorite part of my job. I look at marketing from all angles for my clients and meet them where they are to give them the most powerful marketing plan that aligns with their business goals.

Worked as a service rep performing installs, service and/or maintenance to medical computer equipment. The schedule could vary daily and lots of travel was involved. Technical work was involved but customer service was the main responsibility and that could be a bad or good thing depending on the person doing it. Interesting place to work but it can end up being very exhausting.

The employees were the best part of the company. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Most stressful part was absolutely no training or help from management. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very quiet. No one hardley spoke to each other unless you have been there for years. No culture at all. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressed out and no one to help cause the manager never was in the office.

We meet efficiently to exchange ideas. Interaction between colleagues, teams and departments at Brainlab is frequent, since so many groups work together to ensure the success of a project. Effective communication is essential, therefore meetings are usually quick and to the point, often taking place informally in the restaurant lounge, our interactive zones or even one of the coffee kitchens found in each area of the building. Innovation moves quickly at Brainlab and can happen anywhere.
