For an assisted living, this place will keep you on your feet. If that is what you like; such as busy work, then the shift will fly by for you here. Not overwhelmingly busy, but you'll be running around a lot. The residents themselves are great. If you're in the healthcare field, then you should already be able to discern personality types of residents. So this shouldn't be a factor in whether you like the job or not. Generally it's an autonomous position, too. You'll relay necessary information to the nurse and fellow co-workers, and help around as needed. Mainly though, you seem to work independently.

As for healthcare management and the job culture - it's another story. Rumor mills are very prevalent here. Co-workers will be quick to throw you under the bus if needed and you don't have many "friends" here at all. Everyone is out to get you in some form or fashion. Very immature behavior. One small mistake you make and you get a write up. Ridiculous. 

Your personal inventory is unnecessarily elaborate. 
- A Walkie talkie (obsolete tech)
-A pager (obsolete tech)
-A responder to respond to pages
-an iPhone for your daily tasks (Definitely could be used to eliminate the walkie talkie and pager necessity)
-gloves
-a pen or 2
-trash bags
-paper for notes, etc. 

The pay was somewhat sufficient (12.50/hr) though there is no shift differential and they do offer employee benefits and discounts (like 20% off your phone plan)

Conclusion: The resident care is okay. A bit intensive if you can handle it. The culture and co-workers are immature and will spread any bit of information received to other people and other shifts. And you are carrying A LOT of objects with you all the time. 

I wouldn't personally recommend it.

I accepted a role as a Med Tech at the new Northfax location, but the responsibilities diverged significantly from those discussed during the interview process. Upon hire, it was communicated that the site was not yet fully operational for Med Techs, requiring staff to travel to various locations across Virginia and Maryland to perform CNA duties.
This requirement presented several challenges. The travel distance to these alternative locations was substantial, and the additional commuting costs were not offset by mileage or gas reimbursement. When I sought clarification from local administration regarding these logistical changes and the discrepancy between the initial job description and the actual duties, the communication was dismissive. I was discouraged from raising concerns regarding the feasibility of these assignments, which created an environment that did not match the professional transparency initially presented.
When I requested to pause these travel assignments until I could coordinate with HR, the situation was characterized by local management as a refusal to participate in training. I ultimately withdrew my application due to the lack of clarity regarding the role’s scope and the logistical burden of the uncompensated travel.
Full disclosure regarding the operational status of the site and the expected travel requirements would have allowed for a more informed decision. I am sharing this to advise other prospective applicants to request a clear, written outline of expected duties and travel requirements before finalizing their employment agreement.

This was one of the worst jobs I’ve had and the pay didn’t make it one bit worth it. However, I REALLY DID LOVE THE RESIDENTS HERE!

I worked here a few years back and was hired as an activities assistant for the main part of the building where the regular seniors are. However, they took advantage of me and made me work with the Alzheimer’s and dementia population instead WITHOUT ANY TRAINING WHATSOEVER! 

Yes they showed me how to make everyone’s drinks at happy hour and how to come up with plans for activities. But the most vital important part...being trained on how to work with Alzheimer’s and dementia patients NEVER happened. They were always giving me more and more work tasks and I was taking work home which I never anticipated I would have to. 
I got into an accident during my time here yet they had the nerve to get rid of me because I was no longer comfortable with driving the bus and because I wasn’t able to perform my best due to them not giving me proper training for a position I didn’t even initially sign up for. 

I was young and naive then but in retrospect I realize how badly I was taken advantage of. 

Also some of the men here are sketchy so be careful. Unfortunately I never had a chance to report it and didn’t think it appropriate to mention at the time when they let me go because I thought they would assume I was making it up to try to stay or something. But one of the cooks was very fresh with me. Would comment on my appearance and ask very inappropriate questions. It made me uncomfortable.

My time at Brightview Senior Living, specifically in Wellspring Village (memory care), was one of the most disheartening work experiences I’ve had. I came in with passion and dedication, eager to make a difference in the lives of the residents. I truly believe I did—especially when it came to connecting with those in memory care. However, I constantly felt as if I were being set up for failure.

I was thrown into the role with no support, no proper onboarding, and no resources to run meaningful activities. Whenever I voiced concerns or asked for help, I was either ignored or met with attitude. I reached out to the appropriate leadership channels multiple times, but no action was taken.

The leadership from both the Wellspring Village Director and the Executive Director was the worst I’ve encountered—disconnected, unapproachable, and lacking compassion. The entire management team seemed unsure of what to do, and their inaction only made things worse.

It’s devastating, because the residents are the ones who suffer the most from the constant lack of staffing, structure, and support. Brightview claims to uphold strong values, but what I experienced was the complete opposite.

I gave my best, and I know I could have brought so much value to this community—but no one truly tried to make it work. It’s a shame to see such potential wasted because of poor leadership and a toxic work culture. I would not recommend working here unless there’s a serious shift in how staff and residents are treated.

During a typical day at work, you will do "pre-side work" depending on your assigned section, take orders from the tables in your section and when your food is ready, you will carry it out to your guests. After everyone in your section has eaten, you will clean after them and reset the tables for the next meal. 
I learned to be a team player and keep an open mind. I also learned patience and friendliness when dealing with the elderly as well as other associates. 
Management does everything they can to make Brightview as comfortable as possible for both staff and residents. 
The workplace culture is somewhat diverse and it is easy to make new friends or get a mentor. 
The hardest part of the job is carrying the heavy plates stacked on top of each other for tables that have 6-8 people seated and being patient with some of the more opinionated residents. 
The most enjoyable part of the job is the residents when they are in a good mood or when they help you out with things. Brightview hosts little events where the younger associates come in and get help from the residents. The residents teach the associates knitting and other cool hobbies and the associates in turn look to them as a mentor.

The work can be easy if management held their trainers as accountable. Working here felt good due to the fact that you’re providing a service to our most vulnerable group; elders. The absolute lack of VIBRANCE from the team that was supposed to train and guide me consistently was the main reason I left. If hired for continental and lunch server you are solo. You prep all shift, bake, cut fruit, clean and clear tables, set the buffet, do table service during lunch. The frustrating part about this is being trained to end each shift with a set checklist and if the person before you does nothing for you when you arrive in your shift, you’re practically behind all shift trying to catch up. Rush baking, rush eggs, rush making a BIG FRUIT BOWL. 

Regardless I did my due diligence and cared for my residents wants and needs all
Management and leads did were bad mouth their residents and looked forward to raising their residential rent so they could get bonuses in the winter. 

Not a place of community whatsoever. Don’t waste your time. Full of negative mean spirited people who, if that was your grandmother or grandfather, would laugh and torment and ridicule them instead of providing go positive upbeat service.

Brightview may be a great workplace depending on the location and team. However, my experience at Catonsville was difficult due to a workplace culture that, at many times, felt toxic and unsupportive.  

I encountered favoritism and a lack of accountability, which made it challenging to feel valued as an employee. Concerns about workplace behavior usually went unaddressed. This led to a work environment where teamwork and respect were inconsistent and overall lacking.

Additionally, work expectations prioritized efficiency over quality care, which sometimes resulted in essential tasks being neglected. Despite my efforts to provide thorough care and receiving positive feedback from residents, recognition from leadership focused more on speed than overall performance. Uneven workload distribution and lack of support further contributed to the stressful environment.  

For those considering employment, I recommend carefully evaluating the culture at your specific location to ensure it aligns with your expectations for professionalism, fairness, and teamwork.  

When you work you come into the kitchen and read where your assigned for serving that night. You then check which duties you have to do prior to first seating. after 15 minutes there will be a meeting for the servers going over who is having guests for the night and what is the main courses being served. Then you bring out previously ordered drinks and fill the water glasses. You then wait for the residents to be seated to ask them if they want soup and then you take their order. You bring the paper check to the kitchen to be made and then wait for the food. Once the food is ready you bring it out. Then you clear their plates when they are done and ask if the want dessert. Once they leave you clear their table and reset it for next seating. After the second seating you clean up your designated area for the night and reset the tables for breakfast in the morning. I have learned customer service skills, timeliness skills, and organization. There is almost always a manager or senior server on duty when serving if there is any concerns. The work place culture is relaxed but fast paced. The hardest part of the job is getting the food to the customers in a timely matter. The most enjoyable part of the job is satisfying the elderly people that live there.

Bright view started out as a great place to work. As time went on the work life balance became very poor. Bright view takes advantage of their directors and plays favoritism. Executive directors and other directors are allowed to do whatever they want and if you report it or ask for help you will be sorry. If you'd like this to continue to be a great place to work, do not bring any new ideas to the table, conform to all bright view beliefs, do not report anything that you see wrong (people who are aware of state regulations and laws beware!), and have low ethical standards and low expectations for professionalism. If you're a director, respect your staff because they will be your saving grace! In other words, in other to succeed at bright view you Must be a sheep or at least be OK with being a sheep and having a poor work life balance- there is no way to make that better without becoming frustrated. From what I know about the CEO I like her but I'm not sure that she knows all of what happens at the community level and how unhappy her best employees really are.
