What is the best part of working at the company?
This is one of the few hospitals that has the 1199 union and health insurance for security guards. That is by far the best thing about working security at Bronxcare. It also feels assuring to Interact and build a strong rapport with your coworkers as well the other employees that work at Bronxcare. Helping and assisting those that actually need and want help. Receiving gratitude from staff, patients, and visitors that appreciate the work we do in security.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
You’re expected to do overtime 2-3 times per week every single week. That is beyond unreasonable and asinine. This leads to high stress and quick burnout. No other security job that I’ve worked in the past required every single officer to do multiple 16 hour shifts a week. On top of the crazy mandations, you will be hands on with aggressive psychiatric patients, or homeless people who refuse to leave the premises almost everyday. As with any other hospital, the medical staff; particularly the nurses and doctors will blame security for any and everything, and you will receive very little to no support from upper management. I don’t have anything bad to say about the sergeants here, however upper management is about as mediocre and undependable and any security department.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment is a diverse multicultural environment, which is always a positive. The clientele you will serve are inpatient, and entitled, however that is to be expected working at any medical facility. The hospital is located in the south Bronx,  which is generally a rough area. So the clientele tend to be more belligerent than normal. You’ll need to have thick skin.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You will have the standard security posts: Main entrance post, multiple entry/lobby posts, patrol posts. If you’re not assigned to the aforementioned posts, you will always be posted in the ER. Excluding the ER entrance post, At one of the other four posts within the emergency room, you will be documenting and collecting the valuables and clothes of psychiatric patients, or regular patients that are going into surgery. This can become monotonous and irritating real quick, especially if the person has a lot of stuff with them.

Great benefits, good union, tuition assistance, and health benefits are offered at this hospital. Working at BronxCare Health began with a lot of hope and excitement. However, a few years in brought me a great deal of disappointment.  

I was elated to start work there I felt that my experience working within a psychiatric setting would enhance my experience in the healthcare field and allow me to form long-lasting genuine friendships. The culture and the environment seemed promising. However, it is "survival of the fittest". Staff gossip and throw each other under the bus in a heartbeat. The role and function of a Patient Care Tech aren’t valued. Management treats everyone other than nurses like trash. If you are not a nurse you are dispensable and your job holds no value in their eyes. If there is an issue with a patient, Patient Care Technicians are the first to go even though they do not administer medications. 
 

Very disorganized, unsupportive, and toxic workplace. Current chair of dentistry has ruined the culture of the workplace leading to many attendings and employees who have been there for 15+ to leave.  Both GPR program directors left this year 3 months apart. Ortho, pedo, and oral surgery program directors and attendings also left shortly after.  4 other GPR attendings left in 2020. Current employees frequently speak about when and how they will also exit. Good work ethic/deeds are not recognized or appreciated. Almost 100% of students hate the program and do not recommend for others to join

My typical day in Bronxcare
 Start with rounding on the 4 units,( Labor and Delivery, Maternity, NICU, Peds/PICU) answering and inservicing staff on the units.
 Attends scheduled meetings
Precepts or mentors staff on 1:1 on the unit
Provide support to the staff when needed
Organize drills 
Debrief after drills
Continue to observe and mentor newly hired staff on the units
BronxCare is a busy but fun workplace.
Management culture is just culture. The most enjoyable part of my job is when I am on the units with the staff enabling them to follow the policies and procedures tp provide quality care to the patients and their family members. While the hardest part of my job is the fact that I am responsible to cover 4 different demanding units

Extremely busy, fast paced emergency room serving one of the most underserved populations in the nation. Very stressful environment to work in due to the sheer volume of patients, coupled with a lack of resources (i.e., working number of monitors, computers, BP machines, EKGs). Great place to learn about different disease processes as well as vital nursing skills such as prioritization and Time management.

Critical care ratio is consistently 1:3, even had shifts where it was 1:4. Once you are hired to work in ICU, you are floated nonstop to step-down (and don't even receive float incentive pay). Difficult to take breaks due to workload, not properly compensated as well. Not able to use banked PTO hours due to how short staffed it is. Nursing administration simply does not care about RNs' career and educational improvements and opportunities. Just a warm body with a nursing license. And communication between RNs and MDs are nonexistent.

The insistence on seeing X number of patients without necessary support or downtime. 
Not safe for patient or provider 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Toxic work environment due to non-clinical members making decisions for clinicians. 
Emphasis on number of patients seen versus quality of care 
Lack of sufficient oversight over residents 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
On paper 9-5. More like 9-7 or even later.

Management are disrespectful to their own staff and doesn’t know how to give proper guidance. A lot of favoritism. Too much unhealthy Mandation’s doing 16 hour shifts 3 times a week. Poor housekeeping place never looks clean. Patients usually curse and disrespect the staff and the management would never back their own staff leaving the employees in a bad unhealthy situation in the work place.

This is a good place to start as a new graduate. In the critical care area there is a nice culture of helping each other. The Hospital needs to bring more support to its employees. 

Management is horrible and extremely unprofessional. There is no leadership, no guidance from the the supervisors to the directors. Supervisors won't train their employees. If you do good work no one will recognize it but if you make a mistake you will not hear the end of it. During COVID they have made very little effort to protect their employees. Every other week we have a new covid case appear and yet we are still being forced to come in to work.
