The internship is probably ideal for adult students who have part-time jobs, are still living with their parents, or those who don't have much financial responsibilities.
The credentialing department, where I interned, sounded very interesting as described by the intern preceptor during my interview. During and after the internship, I gradually lost my interest in this type of job, although I liked the office environment at Brooks. Originally, I was more interested in interning in HR department, but I was informed that this was a popular department for interns so it was less likely that they would place me in this department. I was able to shadow 

I also tried applying to entry-level non-clinical jobs within Brooks during and after my internship, and was mainly phone screened by recruiters and never heard back from hiring managers to at least set up an in-person interview. As a job applicant, I did not like the pre-job assessment part. It was somewhat a terrible experience, because it was time consuming and it was too much for me.There were part of the tests that didn't appear to be relevant to the positions I applied to. 

The majority of interns were much younger. There were only two of us were older. There were times I wondered how some younger interns were hired during and after their internship. I had such questions as "Do they have to go through the pre-job assessment most of the time like I did just to be interviewed in person by the hiring manager?" Or "Were they recommended or referred by somebody else in or outside the department?" And "How did they get hired and maintained their employment if they were perceived as somewhat unprofessional by the managers"?

There was also a time that the Caucasian middle-aged/ or older front desk receptionist was a bit rude to me, when I asked her about where the orientation is located for interns. She said the orientation was only for clinical / physical therapy interns. I went to HR office to confirm, and was told the orientation was for all interns. I just ignored this unpleasant experience because I was just starting my internship. The clinical interns were probably treated much differently, since a lot of rehab employees are physical therapists and PTAs, while others were ARNPs or occupational therapists. The VP and President are physical therapists.

Other Cons:

Unpaid Internship for 3 months and I had to spend about $200.00 for vaccinations in order to become an intern, since I don't have health insurance. Almost all of the daily tasks were very basic in nature - types of tasks/skills that I had already acquired in my previous clerical jobs, I didn't learn a bunch of new skills that I could use in my future employment. The intern preceptor was often too talkative about her personal life and was using much of our time during internship (which I thought was somewhat inappropriate at most times), and usually would just talk to the interns without giving us tasks to do or because she had nothing much else for us to do during the day, There was also not enough workspace for 2 interns in the office and we had to share one laptop (because it was expensive).

Pay & benefits
26 days initially all sick time and vacation time come out the same pot, standard bereavement. Insurance plan for health, dental, and vision. Good plan for basic needs. Deductible basic. Family plans are high compared to other places. Pay was good but raises are slow and tge system for getting them makes it harder to get a real percentage increase higher than 1-2 % a year

Job security and advancement
They are very selective in who they promote. Being on the therapy side it is a lot harder to grow within the organization but there are opportunities to do so.

Management
Management is friendly, but things rarely change for the benefit of employees. They host meetings with employees regularly to communicate changes.

Culture
As a therapist no remote work is available unless in outpatient. Corporate positions have remote work with COVID , but pre-COVID in office attendance was encouraged.  The culture of Brooks is fast paced but also very close like family with coworkers. Many people will hang out outside of work and bond to form life long friendships.

Overall
The culture of Brooks is great! Many people become friends. Management is friendly and all staff genuinely care about making an impact on the lives of patients. Every company has their downfalls, but I honestly believe that people stay at Brooks because the culture really is nothing like I've ever seen anywhere else.

Brooks Rehab in my opinion is just a big name only and that’s it!  I worked in the skilled nursing unit at Bartram Crossing and it’s a nightmare! Very underpaid and overworked for the pay rate! They also have very unrealistic expectations like for example several  people were scheduled for therapy at the same time of morning so you had to try to get them up and or ready for therapy at the same time and also feed some of them when breakfast arrived because night shift doesn’t have a get up list! These  residents weren’t anything but rehab residents that they admitted in 90 percent were long term care residents disguised as rehab residents !  Also there was absolutely no team work and extra hours were  forced upon you by management and  the staffing scheduler but
if you just happen to want a day off forget it even if you put your time off request in in advance you weren’t going to get it unless you were in their click and maybe not even then! Also if they had any parties or food only certain people knew about it! I was very miserable working there and if you do decide to take the job I would suggest that you go PRN only because they are very controlling as a matter of fact more than any job that I ever had in the medical field and I have been a CNA for 10 years! 

There is a lot to be said about my personal experience at Brooks.  I have worked in both the University Crossing building and the hospital building on University.  The atmosphere has mostly been hostile.  The management is not caring of staff issues and has had multiple staff turnover.  It recently again, has undergone the DON leaving and the administrator leaving.  They were a big part of the problem however, no one would listen when staff complained.  You would think the CEO and head of nursing would want to get to the bottom of the problem.  Upper management on the individual units, abuse their power and no one cared enough to listen.  There was constant harassment, unfair treatment of staff when you disagreed with management and blatant favoritism. It was difficult to work when you can feel tension in the air and feel like you were constantly being watched and treated unfairly.  The facility rarely backs its staff when it comes to patient complaints even when complaints are not true. This facility is understaffed and currently is being staffed by agency most of the time due to high volumes of turnover.

Very little support for a new graduate, I am an OP neuro PT and have had to figure it out on my own. I am inspired working with the patient's I get to help along their recovery journey's who always talk about very positive about their experiences with Brooks, particularly at inpatient facilities. However, demands and expectations from corporate on outpatient to maintain their reputation are very high for the very lackluster support and compensation provided.  At my clinic the front desk and tech positions have had full turnover in my 11 months working with poor planning, leading therapists to pick up additional tasks from these positions to ensure we can provide good care for our patient's, along with this, I struggle to manage documentation and productivity leading to poor work/life balance. The only reason I have stayed as long as I have is how great my coworkers (therapists) are, allowing for a fun and relaxed clinic environment which is helped by a relaxed clinic manager. Corporate does not provide the St. Augustine clinic appropriate support, having also promised much needed remodeling/renovations which have already been pushed back twice in my year of employment. The clinic looks like it hasn't been updated since the 80's.

     This position varies greatly by clinical location. While front desk (FDC) duties were listed as secondary at ORM, they became a primary part of my role, which I wish had been clarified upfront. Clearer expectations during the hiring process would have helped me prepare.
     Management at my location created a stressful work environment due to condescending, micromanaging, and passive-aggressive behavior. Expectations felt unrealistic, making it difficult to feel comfortable in my role. The job itself wasn’t too difficult once I adjusted, but workplace culture played a huge role in job satisfaction. Some days were overwhelming due to being overworked.
   Overall, this role can be a good learning experience depending on location and leadership, but transparency about job responsibilities during interview process and management style would improve employee retention.

There has definitely been many positive changes over the past year. I learned a lot with this company and started slow. They're flexible because in the end if you are not properly trained it reflects poorly on the company. I can't speak for every team but the one I am on works like a well-oiled machine. Everybody knows what they are doing and if they do not, we have such an excellent support system we help each other. Retention is always the problem as with any company. People get scared and run themselves off before they have a chance to learn. They're not going to fire you because you need an extra week or two of training. It took me about 6 months to learn this job and a year to feel confident in everything I am doing. There's always a learning curve, but I have never felt like my job was threatened. I am also able to control my schedule within reason, so it makes having school age children a lot easier as a working parent. I'm able to participate in special events and random lunch dates which is one of the many perks of home health.

My typical day at work is filled with providing customer service to not just patients, and families, but also to friends of family as well as vendors/contractors and salesmen. I have a very fast pace job, one which requires focus in spite of the many interruptions. I am proud to say that I continue to provide excellent, friendly customer service, while handling the needs of coworkers as well as our patrons. 

The hardest part of the job is knowing when to break away for a moment, so that I will still have that refreshing dispositon that is necessary in the healthcare industry.

The most enjoyable part of the job is knowing that I did a great job in spite of the pace, and the stress involved in multi-tasking. I also love when I can make someone smile, such as family member whom is enduring the unexpected car accident of a child. That makes me smile through the tears!!

I was hired to work for Brooks. I went through a week of orientation in a classroom, I personally think the classroom orientation is very over done. Then u have another week of orientation on the floor. My first day on the floor I was let go Beacuse of my background. I had a battery charge from 2000. Brooks said I needed a excempation to work for them. I explain I had one through the State Of Florida. Brooks use ACHA for background checks but the problem with that is ACHA can't see State issued excempation, So why are they using ACHA??? I feel like that's Brooks lost cause I am a hardworking CNA! I think Brooks should get background check complete before they allow you to work cause there loosing money by hiring before background check comes back. My question to Brooks was... You said I need a excempation to work for you, I have one, But ACHA couldn't see it. Being that I have proof of one dated 2years ago Brooks still tell me I have to reapply! We'll that's not going to happen

Brooks Rehab is renowned in Jacksonville and through out the Southeast as the premiere facility for rehabilitation.  The hospital is loving called "Big Brooks" and is specifically for patients with traumatic and non traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, severe strokes and other serious medical conditions.  
My job was to coordinate the transition between my specific account and the hospital or 1 of 2 other skilled nursing facilities also owned by Brooks where less serious patients went. I learned so much about rehab nursing that I did not know prior to this specific job.  The workplace culture at Brooks is best in class.  I have never met a more caring group of doctors, nurses, physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist and even the ancillary workers, they all have an abundance of dedication and caring that I have never seen at any other facility that I've been a part of in my 30 years of nursing.  Would highly recommend.
