Budget Blinds

A typical day at work included a team meeting, a breakdown of daily tasks, and other valuable information. I started off as an installer, moved to marketing tasks, and sales training. I learned the ins and outs of all things window treatment but never received additional compensation after my 90 day probationary period; even though my daily tasks were managerial rather than installation. Although my official job title was an installer, my responsibilities included; managing a team of installers, warehouse operations, responding to consults and repairs with my personal vehicle without receiving milage or compensation. I was informed that every additional task I was taking on was part of a "great opportunity for advancement and leadership role." I reluctantly agreed and continued to operate my role at Budget Blinds of Midland. I went from installer to "trial manager" in approximately 50 days, with another 40 days until my probationary period ended. For a month and a half, I continued to successfully operate this role. Once my 90 probationary period ended, so did my sales training (even though I was already making sales), and so did my trial period for management. I scheduled a meeting with the Franchise owner and operations manager to discuss my new job title and compensation. We agreed that everything was going to plan and scheduled a date for the next week so we could get everything official. After this meeting, everything went downhill. Our operations manager started micromanaging us heavily and attempted to complete my daily tasks without me. I found this odd but continued to complete the other tasks I was given. Operations manager could not complete my work load and theirs simultaneously, so the owner stepped in to try and assist. They both were unable to handle the workload and had to delegate tasks to franchise owners executive assistant. All of this happened in one week, and it was noticeable.  I was informed to start reporting to the executive assistant because they were now the warehouse coordinator. I now had to train him/her to do my tasks. Throughout all of this, the franchise owner was unable to use a tape measure correctly the whole time. If something was measured wrong, the install team was wrongly blamed for the mistake. The franchise owner went as far as to attempt to spray paint the fascia's for thousands of dollar custom-blinds because he/she wasn't willing to do the right thing and replace them out of pocket. This specific franchise is not worth being apart of.

Working at Budget Blinds of Woodstock and Roswell was a great experience from start to finish. It was never repetitive or boring. Every day was a new day, even if the last one was bad there was never any anxiety of the next day. There were always new customers, new locations, new products and new things to learn. I learned things I didn't even think I could know when working with them. Everything about the industry and products that are available. New ways of thinking and new ideas that are very beneficial to my life. 
The owners, Joe and Karin, are the best people I have ever worked for. Most companies like to appear as if they are all "just like family" but Budget Blinds of Woodstock and Roswell truly is. They will always make sure you are taken care of and are happy with your job. They are respectful and friendly. They are great to work for, I never felt like I was being treated unfairly or was being used or disrespected. If you are respectful, a hard worker and loyal; they will reflect your dedication 10 fold. 
If there was anything to say that was difficult to deal with or might be a turn off for some, it would sometimes be the customers.  Anyone who has dealt with customers can understand the frustration that some can cause, especially if they are disrespectful and have bad attitudes. They also do not provide benefits. Regardless it never dragged the job down. 
If you are considering applying for Budget Blinds of Woodstock and Roswell I would highly encourage you to do so. You will not regret it. 

I worked here for a while and at first it was a wonderful place to work. This is a franchise company so each location is different, so take what I say with a grain of salt. The pay was well and I loved the people I worked with. For roughly 2 years I was thriving, but then there was a shift for some reason. Within a span of 6 months, we had 8 people quit or get fired. With that though, the company did not hire anyone to replace them and a lot of work was dumped on the other employees. It was really rough there for a bit and I hated coming into work. I eventually moved on to a different career path and thank god I did. I hear from some of my friends still working there that it got even worse after I left. 
On the flip side, I LOVED the design aspect of this job. It is quite a creative job and you do get to meet a lot of cool people. I worked in sales for a bit and while some days really suck and you get some nasty customers, most days are really rewarding to see yours and the clients vision come into fruition. However, sales took a lot out of me and made me super depressed because it is not 9-5, it’s 24/7. You’d get clients calling you at 5am to place orders and if you didn’t pick up, well you might have lost out on a $10k+ order. 
Probably my BIGGEST complaint is no benefits AT ALL! This was one of the biggest reasons I left too. They introduced a simple Ira two years into working there, but that is it. No health benefits and that seemed wild to me since it was a large franchise company.

constantly arguing against the owner of the store in order to improve the company as a whole

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It’s a family run store so the environment is welcoming however you will be a black sheep as soon as you stand up for yourself and your thoughts on how operations could differ/improve

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You walk in the door and load your van with the installations for the day, go through your installations. If there’s no issues with measurements and production issue then everything goes fine. If there’s are issues you will have to talk to the consultant to figure out how to resolve said issues to move forward with the project which can be a back and forth discussion. then once your arrive back at the shop you are required to review every detail that went wrong or right with the owner

As a Budget Blinds owner, my experience has been both rewarding and challenging. The ability to help clients enhance their homes with beautiful window treatments is incredibly fulfilling. Each project allows me to tap into my creativity and see firsthand how a simple change can dramatically improve a space.

The support from the corporate team is invaluable. They provide excellent training, marketing resources, and a strong brand presence that makes it easier to attract customers. The product range is diverse, allowing me to cater to various tastes and budgets, which keeps my work interesting.

However, running the business requires hard work and dedication. Balancing inventory, managing schedules, and ensuring top-notch customer service can be demanding. There are days when the workload feels overwhelming, but the satisfaction of seeing happy customers makes it all worthwhile.

Overall, being a Budget Blinds owner offers a unique blend of creativity and entrepreneurship. It’s a journey that challenges you to grow while providing the joy of making homes more beautiful. 

I worked at Budget Blinds as a Senior Consultant/Regional role, and the experience largely depends on your sales ability and personal discipline.

This is not a clock-in, clock-out job. It’s performance-driven. If you’re comfortable with in-home consultations, closing on the spot, and managing your own pipeline, the income potential is real. The commission structure rewards volume and high-ticket sales, and top performers can make strong money.

Cons:

	•	Some markets may feel saturated depending on territory

This role is ideal for someone competitive, self-motivated, and comfortable asking for the order. If you need structure, guaranteed salary, or constant management support, it may feel stressful.

If you like work that is complex and varied; If you like being accountable for your own success; if you like to work mostly independently...you will enjoy this job. Just know that there will be some good times and bad working at a place where it is maybe 50% family and 50% non-family. You will be treated differently. Ultimately, as a non-family member, you will be more accountable for how you use your time and for any mistakes you may make. I did not have a problem with this, because I always strive to be accountable for my actions. Stay out of the inevitable drama as much as you can and it will be fine. This job is not for everybody: You will need a certain unique set of skills and you will never be able to stray far mentally from pending projects. 

Of all my employers I’ve never worked for a more honest owner. This Family owned franchise turned a profit in their first year of business and has continued to grow since. I think that speaks volumes for its self. They offer excellent benefits and advancement. Being a part of this establishment means being a part of their family. The Dahlstrom family owns several franchises all owned by the father and siblings spanning from Utah to the west coast of Oregon. Family owned and operated since 2019 they provide a fun loving honest and profitable work environment for business associates and  employees alike. 

The name of the company says it all. The owner of the franchise is nice, but never smiles. They take little interest in their employees. Management is not supportive. Scheduling is overbooked and job times are overlapped so, you don't have enough time to complete an installation before needing to be at your next appointment. When raising awareness of this to management, they simply say, "Oh, we're working on it and it'll get better.". It doesn't improve, ever. You're consistently attempting to troubleshoot and fix window treatments that don't fit because, the designers simply lack the knowledge to correctly order the product. You will work two man jobs by yourself in hopes that the customer will be able to assist you. This is a very unprofessional and unorganized business. I wouldn't recommend working for this franchise.

While working at Budget Blinds of St. George for almost 2 years, what I have learned is that their management does not care about loyalty at all. No matter how much good work you have done for them, they will blame you for everything. Management lacks responsibility at admitting their own mistakes and will constantly try to make you feel like the smaller person. There is NO room for growth or promotions, even though they will feed you lies and try to tell you otherwise. There are no incentives, no bonuses, and they barely gave out a Christmas bonus. No matter how long you have been there, you are not safe from being fired even if there is no probable cause. In no way would I ever recommend someone to work at Budget Blinds, as I do not wish upon them, what Budget Blinds did to me.
