I worked for the company for almost 5 years. At first there were no reviews. If there was a personal commitment after hours, the management would not care. Your time after hours was not your time. If the work wasn’t finished (field work sometimes has unexpected obstacles or delays), there was no option to continue the next day. Even if you had informed your manager about “after hours commitment” a week ahead, they would tell you they did not care. Once they decided to have performance reviews, they were solely negative, they did not appreciate the work you do. If you take a look at their job postings, they keep on repeating: majority of Field Professionals would last less than a year. I have never seen such a stressful and hostile work environment. I thought I could change it, but this company does not want to change. They do not allow you to have a life outside your work, you are always on a short leash, not able to make plans with your family and friends after hours. The goals and budgets are unrealistic, and no-one can stay in the budget without working during the weekends and not logging their time.

Building & Earth is a fast-growing geotechnical firm, specializing in the design and construction services industry.  It has been in the business for over 20 years – really solid. Fresh out of school, I started working here as a trainee but am now a full-fledged Engineering Technician.
B&E invests in the development of their employees.  They sponsor industry certifications and continuing education.  If not for the training I got here at B&E, I wouldn’t be where I am today.  My colleagues are all professional, talented, and most of all – approachable.  My job is mostly field work which I like because I don’t like being stuck in the office.
No complaints about the compensation and benefits either – they’re superb.  And the company is very generous with paid time off. 

The managers of the Louisville branch are terrific people to work with and can help you with multiple certifications and work based experiences. The job is inspection of jobsites and testing building materials, whether that be concrete, mortar, soil, steel, etc. Building and Earth (B&E) does at good job at teaching and explaining how to perform these tests and site observations. However, as a technician, one will be covering multiple job sites by oneself so the ability to be self sufficient it a required quality. The hardest part of the job is communicating and coordinating with the jobsite superintendents and B&E mangers making sure all things are covered. This can lead to radical hours of work (3-4 AM Concrete pours). However, all of these difficulties become worth it once the final structure is built and a sense of accomplishment can felt.

Worked with this company with an extensive resume, in construction, metal work and investigating / inspection/ QA & QC / hydrostatic testing.  
Took over a year to get an 90 day employee job review / evaluation so I could possibly get a raise in wages.  Local management was least bit concerned, and I had to contact the CEO of company and put pressure on the local management to get an evaluation, only to get less than what I thought I would get for a wage increase.   The company does not care if you have a high school diploma - GED- or
College education , every field tech starts out with low wages- because it's the local wage scale.... but you can work all the overtime you want though.  
Learned some new skills to walk away from the company with, to know what to look for with these construction companies doing secondary to low grade work and side stepping the laws, codes, and required ASTM requirements.

I worked for this company for many years and watched it grow and adapt with each year.   There are many branches throughout the US (lots of opportunity) and each is their own team within the larger Team.  There is a big focus on culture, communication and being the benchmark in our industry.  Building & Earth wants you to feel like you are working with your friends to solve the daily challenges.   Typical days for me were spent making sure both external and internal client needs were met with efficiency and grace, while surrounded by folks I care about.    There is a wealth of knowledge, experience and support throughout the company and reaching out for help from these sources is encouraged.  Commitment and leadership are acknowledged and rewarded - just look at the number of people who have been offered ownership in the company.
