Burke Rehabilitation Hospital

Same as above. They pick and choose whom to take care and find money in budget for people that they like. Special packages and arrangements for the chosen staff.  Still waiting for handicapped spots for staff. HR is horrible- cannot be trusted plus really rude to employees and speaks down to employees . Plus not knowledgeable - not sure how some still have jobs. By the time you get back to your desk, everyone already knows that you've been there. There is retribution for speaking up.  Just terrible.  Rest of staff are hard working and lovely (always some rotten eggs but that's normal). These days, all they care about is filling beds and with more sick patients so the staff has to work harder and are overwhelmed.  Far from the culture of the old Burke Way.  The new President looks like its going to be an executive from within which will perpetuate the unfairness and extreme demon behavior towards staff. And the executive team will be rewarded. They all need to go besides a handful of keepers.

I loved working at Burke during my residency years. The location was amazing. White Plains is a very nice down and it’s only a short drive from NYC. You get to meet wonderful people both at work as well as outside of work! 
I loved the work culture and really enjoyed spending time with my co-workers. The environment at work felt safe, collegial and trustful. Management had issues at times but they tried to make up for it. 
Faculty was amazing and the quality of faculty improved a lot after Montefiore took over the Rehab Hospital. 
There were wonderful opportunities for patient care, research and publications even during a very busy residency period. 
Outside of work, there are wonderful opportunities to eat out at good restaurants, nice gyms and great opportunities for sports. NYC is only a short drive away and you have access to amazing theaters, Broadway shows, Central Park or even the most expensive sushi places. 
I would highly recommend this place for training or for work ! 

My mornings at Burke, settled in the office turning on the computer, listened to all voicemails, double checked all patients charts  organize by appointment time plus returned calls. After I would start my scanning  and printing all information required for the therapist, at times faxed medical information to others departments. Obtain Authorizations and Insurance Verification in between greeting patients confirming their copay if applied handle out paperwork to fill out if new patient or requiring additional treatment from Insurance Company. Schedule, Cancel, or reschedule appointments. close out weekly the copay/deposit for the office. end of day I would prepare for next day by printing out master/schedule sheets confirm all patient chart were properly organized with all forms required for the patient.

I  think this is a great place to start out for new grads - there is an intensive training program (~3 months long) with continued 1:1 sessions afterwards as complexity of patient caseload grows. 

Biggest con is the rotation expectation from inpatient rehabilitation unit to their subacute rehabilitation (there are two Burke-owned subacute facilities which they send their therapists to). This seems to be why staff turnaround is high, with staff therapists leaving after ~ 1 year, as they typically wish to continue working within the inpatient rehab setting (+ diversifying their skills on varying inpatient units) vs. be relocated to a subacute facility/longer term nursing care facilities. 

I enjoyed working at Burke Rehab a lot. The management was very friendly, easy to get along with, yet still professional making it an easy environment to advance your career in a comfortable manner. There could be crazy days due to the patient population, however if you enjoy a challenge and being busy, and like the neuro population in acute rehab, I would suggest trying this hospital out! Also the campus is absolutely beuatiful, I took patients outside regularly and they were so grateful to get the chance to see the outdoors during their treatments.

The typical day involved getting vital signs, preforming ADL's, assisting patients with eating breakfast, bringing patients to therapy, and taking care of patient and family needs. I learned how to manage time and stress of the job. Management offered support and further education for staff. My co-workers created a productive work environment where teamwork was essential. The hardest part of the job was in the morning because it required multitasking and fast pace to get the patients to therapy on time. The most enjoyable part of the job was having patients become happier and get better from the care I provided.

I work with a caring staff in a friendly atmosphere. I only wish my department was large enough for advancement. I hope that Burke can thrive for a long time to come. The most enjoyable part of my job is discovering what creates a technical problem and then making the appropriate deductions and corrections on the way to fixing the issue.
I came to Burke with desktop experience and leave Burke with desktop support experience in an enterprise setting. My department was nurturing and it was great pleasure to have been an employee in Burke's IT department.

Vast amount of therapists to get ideas, judgements and critiques for working with certain patients/diagnoses. However can be very repetitive until you shift to next unit. Many therapists are contracted out to nearby SNF's, that are included in rotations. Because of it being a large company/hospital, its easy to get overlooked by management and can sometimes be a little impersonal.

This facility is good at what they do rehabilitation but being an employee is another story.I left before a year.They literally work you t o the bone and everything is scrutinized from the minute you start your shift.It is almost impossible to perform the way they want you to.Heres the risk,they fire very easily for any little thing and do not care about the person or how hard you work ,I have seen it many times while working there.I do not recommend being an employee at this facility for these reasons.

Burke Rehabilitation Hospital is a wonderful multicultural company that I had the opportunity to work for 4 years. The professionals that work there are great people who dedicate their lives to help, support and rehabilitate patients with various diagnosis.

I developed many new skills due to the direction and dedication of remarkable Occupational, and Physical Therapist that worked there.
